Not even conquered. It was settled by Europeans because the Indians were living like wild animals in the forest killing and raping and enslaving each other. They didn’t have any laws and would have eventually killed themselves off if the Europeans hadn’t come to save them from themselves. Look at how much better their lives are now with clothes and cars and snowmobiles and boats and food.
Get over it, it happened, we have paid reparations and you have got white cultural benefits like modern housing, hospitals and your cellphone. We don't accuse you of appropriation.
Yes, that's what Trump said and you know how much Canadians love him for it. Suggesting that you want to conquer Canada makes you the bad guy in the eyes of Canadians.
You can always go back to living in log cabins and catching fish and healing with plants. Most of you can't even go without your cellphone. So stop making out that white is bad. The settlers did exactly what the FN did to other tribes.
This is what happens when the progressive go too far, it opens up the door for a very hard right wing pendulum swing. It was incredibly daft for eby to go this route
I was replying to dasbend, the reality is, assuming the only people who are white are fed up with the tax dollars and land disputes is insane. everyone in Canada is starting to see there’s got to be a better way.
The last judicial decision (mineral extraction) actually addressed this. Part 2 of the decision says clearly that the government must start a process wherein the gov't must provide a timeline of shared rule or ruling by consent of FN
When Europeans came here and started running the show it's called being conquered. This is just having a weak leader who's a closeted activist and has a severe white guilt complex.
There was no show, at this point: there was no starting to run the show, when they were the ones who started the show to begin with. Hard to have "stolen" the country, where there was none to begin with...
Aside from that, you don't fix alleged wrongs of the past, by enacting wrongs in the present: you're not punishing those people from the past, you're punishing folks like myself for being born here, while white. If you can''t see what's wrong with that, you might not be the "good guy" so many of you progressives have convinced yourselves you are.
Foreigners is an interesting concept. How many generations back does it take to not be a foreigner? How much FN blood to does it take to be an ice age immigrant? Does a direct tie relative, adoption or marriage make you part of the nation or lose aboriginal title? Whats are your thoughts on this?
Yes, I was banned for just listing official BC government policies with respect to First Nations. I was even offering the mods that I would provide government website sources to back up every claim I make but they banned me never the less…
care to list the top 3-5 policies that are so controversial it got you banned there? I am also banned on /r/vancouver, but sort of deservedly so (got emotional and called for harsher punishments for violent assaults, but with harshly chosen words).
I just enumerated that many first nations people in BC get the following special privileges:
They get to live in their own communities where they can pay 0 income taxes or sales taxes.
Access to provincial/national parks at reduced or waived fare.
Extra hunting and fishing rights.
Their land is exempt from municipal zoning regulatinos.
Preferential treatment in sentencing.
Special access to funding for post-secondary education.
They are allowed to engage in discriminatory business practices, such as charging other races higher fees. I listed the example of the Chan Centre in UBC which charges non-indigenous people double the price of indigenous people for concert tickets. Some concerts they give free to indigenous people only. Doing the reverse (charging indigenous people double) would be illegal.
Plan W, which provides status indians with free pharmaceutical coverage, which other Canadians don't get.
This was a reply to a person who commented that first nations do not get special privileges.
Also the NDP and their provincial construction projects using the BCIB give priority hiring to First Nations peoples, then LBGTQ2S+, then other Visible minorities, women, and if nobody else is available, a white man may be hired.
As an atheist you have to believe FN religions. It’s part of the culture and cannot be separated out. You can be band from a park by FN because you have the wrong look about you. You can be forced to not have access to wild foods because you have the wrong look about you. You can no longer purchase land, generate wealth for yourself of your children and must pay an undisclosed sum to undisclosed individuals based on bloodlines much like the mediaeval nobility. You forgot being able to practice government sanctioned racism as a benefit I guess because I don’t know what else to call it.
Yes. I worked with a few people who can travel and work both sides of the border because their bands lived on an area where the border just happened to be placed so both countries give the nation dual citizenship.
In Saskatchewan they don’t pay taxes on gasoline so it’s cheap. Also there are 11 urban reserves in Saskatoon full of businesses. The natives working in these urban reserves don’t pay any income tax.
Front and center at the hospitals now are pamphlets and posters asking FN folks to identify themselves since they are entitled to extra assistance of some sort.. this is fairly recent.
All bands that falls under the Indian Act gets the tax exemption. That is what the Indian Act says, any income made on the reserve is tax exempt and sales tax dont apply on reserves. Also exempt from any property inheritance or estate tax on the reserve.
Not a bc only thing.
They could've done that during independence from the crown. Choosing clean slate start, but not one bands agreed to abolishing Indian Act because Pierre Truduea government refused any financial payment/compensation/past owed payments by uk government(which canada agreed to take on with independence). So, if they did pay like New Zealand did, it would be one possibility that we wouldn't have this problem now. They chose this dumb path.
Yep, and pretty soon you'll be banned from here too. Can't have the truth out. We must all be complicant in whatever the government wants. Once we are fully compliant, our overseers will have forever amazing lives for all their generations to come. We'll just keep the lights on for em, and eat the scraps
When you try and please everyone, you end up pleasing no one. Eby and the NDP tried to please everyone, and in the end, they've made no one happy. Also, this is a perfect example of when you give certain groups an inch, they try and take a mile.
Yep, glad there's national debate on this because to be honest, I think someone was waiting to light the fire that burns down the reconciliation scam once and for all!
Surrey and Richmond hold the balance of power. Polls conducted over the phone in English don't capture the actual feelings of the visible minority voters in those two cities.
BC NDP is going to struggle in Richmond explaining the land claim, and they're already struggling in Surrey explaining the lack of progress against extortions.
Lol Canadian "news"
Same news that shows a guy waving a Nazi flag but can just walk into the hotel he rented to ask, "who was that guy".
We don't have news.
UN law? We live in Canada. The UN can take a hike.
Where is our lovely PM? Why hasn't he said anything about what's happening? Obviously, something else he doesn't care about.
He is weak. He is not a fighter. he is a coward. He believes in a system that discourages the workers and emboldens the welfare state to bankrupt the system in the name of reparations. "Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times"
"This narrative wrongly blames First Nations for uncertainty, while ignoring the historical reality that British Columbia was largely settled without treaties. It replaces facts and experience with fear, and co-operation with division," the statement says.
And who fault is that? When British crown wanted to sign treaties FN in BC where like nah, we saw what happened to rest of the Canada and US, we not gonna.
And when British crown said fine than all of this is crown land now because we need some kinda legitimacy here, because US territorial pretensions,…. Then FN said ok we change our mind we wanna do treaties, but like we want you gone and land back.
I know that BC gov trying to be anti inflammatory here but please say as it was,…not blame game,… enough is enough
Nobody still alive had any say into how it was set up. Absolutely we can figure something out, that is what we have a legislature for.
Eby trying to do everything in secret and working hard for a 100% transfer with no recourse? This isn't the way in a democracy. Crown land is for all British Columbians.
Of course they would. It's in their best interest for it not to change but not in the best interest of British Columbians who elected them representing 95% of the population.
Of course they do lol.....they see the money train on the horizon that'll make them the most privileged people in the country more than they are now ....
"Nice province you have here. It would be a shame if someone did something to it." At this point why have a premier....he's just a figurehead at this point.
This is the big question. I've only heard a very few on the radical edge of FNs talking about an actual end state; but what they speak about is literally a continent wide super state where everyone who traces their ancestry back to the old world within the last thousand years has no voting power and anyone who opposed the transition or argued in favour of colonization is executed/incarcerated.
Everyone (apparently) less extreme refuses to lay out their actual desired end state and just keep making moves in the direction the extremists want...
Been almost a year since I listened to the podcast in question, but they touched on this and basically went with the "Tribes will be able to determine their own membership and should be charitable in cases of lack of documentation, but should brutally harsh with frauds."
The podcast in question was "Decolonized Buffalo" he seems to have deleted his channel (or maybe been banned for hate speech) on Spotify, but you can find a lot of episodes of Radicle Narrative where he's a guest. Just search "Decolonized Buffalo" on Spotify.
I don't recall if they actually used the word "execute" but they made it clear that they consider politically active Conservatives and police officers as so irredeemably evil that we must be eliminated from their society.
I suspect that openly expressing those opinions is why the show itself was scrubbed from Spotify.
Of course they are !
There is little need or desire by the FNs to fast tracking any economic or growth initiatives unless they have a significant upside .
The longer the consultation process takes the better deal the FNs usually end up with.
Canada was a global resource powerhouse which fuelled much of our social programs as well as healthcare and infrastructure and the support of FNs for years .
Today it takes a decade on average to open a mine , 3/4 years for a real estate development, god only knows to get a east to west pipeline built.
Adding a long and onerous consultation process to the litany of other bureaucratic processes will continue to make Canada less productive and more dependent on US trade.
First Nations make up approximately 6 % of BC population and with 204 disparate nations allowing a veto to British Columbia’s and Canada’s economic growth is simply not in a democratic society’s best interests.
Billionaires will literally be traveling to Mars for vacation before this will be settled, while citizens of this country are held hostage by certain groups who don't truly represent indige
Its already too late. You can't litigate settled cases under new laws. New cases can use them, but everything already decided has to use the laws in existence at the time. Even new laws may be found unconstitutional based on precedent, and the NWC can only be involved temporarily.
I’m pretty sure laws are always altered with time and changes in public opinion. 2.6% of the population was a failed experiment, time for drastic changes to to be made.
Sounds like a challenge
Don't worry, Eby is bending over already
Unfortunately we're the ones getting raw dogged
Honestly, enough is enough. I'm sick and disgusted by reconciliation and the state it's left this country in.
You can always go back to where you came from (let me guess, somewhere 'white') if you don't like it yes? Nobody forcing you to live here.
It's our now, 'FN' should become full citizens. No more special benefits. No more special fiefdoms. It's Canada now.
I agree, we should all be equal in benefits and responsibilities.
Sounds good. No more benefiting from stolen land then yes? Isn’t stealing illegal in Canada?
It's not stolen. It's conquered. Get that through your heads and join the rest of Canada as equals. Not extra special first class citizens
Sounds good. Does equality include sending your kids to residential schools to even that part out? You wouldn’t want special treatment now would you?
Everyone should have an education
Get over it, it happened, we have paid reparations and you have got white cultural benefits like modern housing, hospitals and your cellphone. We don't accuse you of appropriation.
Get off my land
Land wasn’t stolen.
It wasn't stolen. It was conquered. The only person benefitting is the indigenous and all the handouts they receive... for basically nothing.
So if conquering is legal, it can be conquered back no?
It can be, try. And see how that works out.
I would sincerely love to see you try
Please try it. Can't even organize a reserve but you think you can conquer Canada?
Hundreds of years ago, they could have tried that but they didn't.
There's nobody for them to blame but themselves for not conquering the land back.
Yes, that's what Trump said and you know how much Canadians love him for it. Suggesting that you want to conquer Canada makes you the bad guy in the eyes of Canadians.
You should try
The First Nations that are currently in Canada did conquer other First Nations for their land during the initial migrations.
If someone steals something from someone whom had stolen it first…
Its not stolen. All Canadians are part of the tribe .
You can always go back to living in log cabins and catching fish and healing with plants. Most of you can't even go without your cellphone. So stop making out that white is bad. The settlers did exactly what the FN did to other tribes.
They wish they knew how to build a log cabin!! Europeans taught them everything they know. They aren’t smart.
Why do you say this when it's obviously not true? Like, all we have are Canadian citizenships, we can't go back to wherever our ancestors came from.
You said something that fascists and white nationalists say very often.
Telling people to go back to where they came from makes you the bad guy.
No you can't. If you're only a citizen of Canada you need to go through lots of hoops to get residency anywhere else.
You sound like an import
Wow R@cist much…
This is what happens when the progressive go too far, it opens up the door for a very hard right wing pendulum swing. It was incredibly daft for eby to go this route
I was replying to dasbend, the reality is, assuming the only people who are white are fed up with the tax dollars and land disputes is insane. everyone in Canada is starting to see there’s got to be a better way.
Do they govern the province or does the provincial government? What the hell am I paying taxes for?
The last judicial decision (mineral extraction) actually addressed this. Part 2 of the decision says clearly that the government must start a process wherein the gov't must provide a timeline of shared rule or ruling by consent of FN
How can you have any one group, based on racial/ethnic background, be given the right to govern over others, unelected?
One group that is less than 6% of the population.
Kind of like when Europeans came and just started to run the show. There is definitely some poetic irony here.
When Europeans came here and started running the show it's called being conquered. This is just having a weak leader who's a closeted activist and has a severe white guilt complex.
Sounds a lot like being conquered.
We can do it again lol
This is where it’s leading.
Keep that rhetoric up and see how much sympathy you'll get.
There was no show, at this point: there was no starting to run the show, when they were the ones who started the show to begin with. Hard to have "stolen" the country, where there was none to begin with...

It's amazing how little attention this is getting. It's not just about mineral tenures, it's every single law in BC.
Would this be a good time to use the notwithstanding clause?
Section 35 is actually outside of the Charter so you can't even do that, we need a full on constitutional amendment.
What percentage of your tax money goes to benefit you directly?
Do the main BC/Vancouver subs not allow this issue to be posted? I haven't seen it there
They've both been censoring this topic.
They immediately remove/lock these kind of posts.
Yes, I was banned for just listing official BC government policies with respect to First Nations. I was even offering the mods that I would provide government website sources to back up every claim I make but they banned me never the less…

Something nobody ever mentions is that a status card is also dual citizenship with the United States.
What? How?
Sorry its not dual citizenship but you can cross border with it and there are some discounts if products are taxed at border.
Google is status card dual citizenship and it gives a good summary.
Yes. I worked with a few people who can travel and work both sides of the border because their bands lived on an area where the border just happened to be placed so both countries give the nation dual citizenship.

brilliant, thanks for the succinct summary!

Correct, never meant to say they were bc specific
The Indian act needs to be abolished

No, they refuse to share posts like this. I have a tempban from the bc sub right now.
I was also just banned from /r/Vancouver for this comment:

When you try and please everyone, you end up pleasing no one. Eby and the NDP tried to please everyone, and in the end, they've made no one happy. Also, this is a perfect example of when you give certain groups an inch, they try and take a mile.
They also managed to alienate their biggest voter's, equity(land) owners
Not certain groups, any group. Which is why we should be treated equally.
This was what was built on this land. That's the concept. If we revert back to non equality. We go back to conquering mentality.
Is that what everyone wants?
I imagine that’s what they said.
Yep, glad there's national debate on this because to be honest, I think someone was waiting to light the fire that burns down the reconciliation scam once and for all!
Eby lit that fire.
The amount of content that the media and independent commentators have been pumping out has been astounding.
Eby put ideology before the interests of the people that he represents. The wall of silence just broke and the push back has been unprecedented.
Echo chambers aren't reality, and right wingz US owned media isn't believed by all, aggregate sites still have the NDP favoured in polls.
Eby put the solutions on the table for the people, the people gobbled up the scraps on the floor from fear mongering politicians and influencers.
No need to look at the WSJ or any other US media. All of this has been reported in Canadian news if people care to be informed.
Lol Canadian "news" Same news that shows a guy waving a Nazi flag but can just walk into the hotel he rented to ask, "who was that guy". We don't have news.
It's hard to find for sure and requires individuals to do more work than we should have to.
Meanwhile, paid NDP staffers are still trying to put out the fire.
UN law? We live in Canada. The UN can take a hike. Where is our lovely PM? Why hasn't he said anything about what's happening? Obviously, something else he doesn't care about.
It was UNDRIP / the declaration act which was ratified by the provincial legislature, unanimously by all parties.

First Nations: Hey we're not here to f*** you guys over.
5 minutes later: Hey don't change the laws that allow us to f*** you over.
At this point the NDP is probably toast for a such long time that if I were Eby, I'd just say f*** y'all and hand it over to the First Nations anyway.
Then again, the world mostly runs on brain deads so maybe they'll still be the powerhouse of the province for the foreseeable future.
Wow! Is this a surprise? It’s there goose laying golden eggs!

Silly rabbit, blood testing is only for europeans. Basically, they would have all the power as well as the power to determine who counts as 'status'.
If the elders like you, you pass. If they don't like you, they won't.
Exactly like it works on reserve. Except there wouldn't be a reserve to kick you off into.
They actually used the "e" word? Interesting.
I don't recall if they actually used the word "execute" but they made it clear that they consider politically active Conservatives and police officers as so irredeemably evil that we must be eliminated from their society.
I suspect that openly expressing those opinions is why the show itself was scrubbed from Spotify.
The endgame is that FN get all crown land, which they will permit non-FN to use in exchange for royalties/license fees/admission fees etc.
Their endgame is the demolition of the province and the establishment of entirely distinct jurisdictions with the caveat that:
1, all taxes will still be paid out to these jurisdictions and,
2, all responsible government will be eliminated.
Time to grow some stones..
It's not even UN law, it's a declaration

UN HAS NO LAWS OVER US. im getting so sick of the FN bs and I'm part of them.
the 5% suggesting manipulation of democracy?
nothing to see here.
Eby looking to the CCP for what to do next.
Its already too late. You can't litigate settled cases under new laws. New cases can use them, but everything already decided has to use the laws in existence at the time. Even new laws may be found unconstitutional based on precedent, and the NWC can only be involved temporarily.
AFAIK governments can change their laws as they see fit, if they don't like they can take it to the SC.
Chicken masala. Eby’s cure to his problem.
We can change any UN law we want because we have no representation in the UN, and they have no jurisdiction over our justice system or rights.
Any right of a specific identity that isn't a right for everyone else is the definition of institutionalized racism.
We need to stop this racist law making on behalf of indigenous now.
I’m pretty sure laws are always altered with time and changes in public opinion. 2.6% of the population was a failed experiment, time for drastic changes to to be made.
Hahaha, it's like they think they own the place
You have a ton of baby boomers in BC. Don't expect anything good until a bit more time passes.
More than time to dip the UNDRIP and any associated legislation.
