Hey Y'all,

My partner and I have a 2017 Sprinter van with two MaxxFan Deluxe 12V Roof Vents and I am wondering if anyone else has had any water intrusion issues from these type of vents while the vents are closed during heavy rains?

We live in the PNW and winter time gets pretty rainy and have had a number of atmospheric river storms come though and I've found water has found a way in below the vents after heavy rain storms with high winds. Over the summer I was sure to check the caulk around the vent fans and I'm pretty confident that the water isn't leaking through the seals of the vents. I wonder if anyone has had any issues with water leakage in through the vents openings while closed? Also, does anyone know of fix for this besides taping a plastic trash bag or something over the vents to seal them off from the elements?

Thank you for any insights and suggestions.

  • Yes had an issue with water that was very slow and hard to find. Proved to be a crack in the plastic flange piece that attaches to the roof, just along the vertical edge so that water only crept in on heavy rain and winds.

Thank you! I'll have to go check for some cracks tomorrow.

May I ask, what was your fix for this?

Cover over the crack with dicor then replaced the fan in summer. Didn't have luck finding the flange piece by itself. Requires all the work of a new fan to replace the flange alone anyway.
