Why doesn’t VPN change my location “account based in” on twitter?
I’m using a paid vpn and it still shows my actual location. I used a free one before and I thought using a paid one would be different.
Do I have to login for weeks using the vpn for it to change?
Vpn only change you IP address location not your Twitter/X location that you registered in.

On twitter, the “account based in” is their real time/past weeks location and it can be changed with a VPN, although it will display an icon that shows a VPN is being used.
For me it doesn’t change, mine still displays my actual location, however I only bought paid VPN yesterday. Many accounts have changed it with VPN from india/nigeria etc to USA.

But apps can't use ur gps data without you giving them permission. This is likely because they logged his real IP already and just detect the VPN
A lot of these fake political accounts got exposed after their locations showed india/nigeria when the location update immediately launched in november. After days or weeks, it changed to USA meaning they’re using VPN to hide and the vpn works
My guess is that their VPN connection wasn't detected. Commercial VPNs get easily detected because platforms just check what IP ranges they use. That doesn't mean all VPN connections are detected.
Yep I am. Some of these accounts are using the app tho, because it shows “connected from usa europe app store” etc, means they’re using the app. If not it will say “connected from web”
It means the App Store account is based in Europe. Does not change based on IP geolocation automatically.
Yes I get that however theres another section which is based on where the ip geolocation is, and beside the location, it will display whether a VPN is used or not. My issue is it doesn’t change even if i’m on a VPN
Commercial VPN's aren't difficult to detect. My guess is that they already logged you real IP and won't change your region because they detect the VPN.
You can always create a new account and register with the VPN on from the start.
Because twitter doesn’t want Nigerian bots pretending to be in the US.
Which is exactly what it sounds like you are trying to do.
First of all those nigerian bots do successfully hide their locations and show US instead.
Secondly even if I was, what’s the issue, I don’t involve myself in political or controversial tweets which is the whole reason why the update was introduced.

I only use X through web and it shows my location as my VPN location, although I am connected to Romania at the moment it still shows me as being in Switzerland (which is the VPN server I use most).
The app may be reading your GPS location, or there is a DNS leak.
Which VPN do you use and when did u last use switzerland to connect to X?
I use my own. Was quite a few days ago I used X with Switzerland, but using it again today with Romania and saw your post so thought I'd check my profile today and that's when I saw it was still on Switzerland.

No it is censored where I live, so no accessing X without a VPN.

IIRC Twitter updates your location every 14 days or something, regardless if you're using VPN or not.
I see. I created a new account in late november and It didn’t show a location until now. I had a free vpn on and at times, I forgot to turn on the vpn when logging into the account so now it displays my actual location
Twitter uses account and GPS data too, not just your IP.
