I like to just run mine through a cheapo VCR a few times and that does the trick, if you want you can also manually clean it but that is pretty delicate work so I'd recommend just running it through a vcr
VHS reminder and a few blasts from a compressed air can does the trick for me. People said it would just come back and I’ve kept the tapes I’ve cleaned separate but they’re all still fine and play fine

I've heard about moldy tapes. What causes mold in Vhs? Does it mean the tape won't play?
Humidity can cause it to grow. If you try to play it it’ll get stuck in your VCR and potentially break everything.
