Been loosely collecting VHS on & off for about a year. Just picking up the odd tape from car-boot sales or from helping grandparents clearing out their homes.
Trainspotting is one of my favourite films of all time, perfect capturing of 90s working class attitudes & the gentrification of the middle classes (amongst the heavy themes of drug addiction), and for Christmas my younger brother gifted me this limited edition collector’s edition of Trainspotting. Complete with orange tinted glasses, cigarette lighter, and cigarette paper holder. Top tier & my new pride & joy, demoting the sealed copy of Snatch I found buried in my grandfather’s shed.
Bonus points for the original receipt dated November 1996 being kept in the box, and the tape rewound.
How much was the original price on the receipt?
£24.99 from HMV in Glasgow, quick google and that’s about £60 in 2025 with inflation
Pretty good price even for today as a used collection, I’d wager.
That's so cool.
I have to imagine that lighter has eroded into being unusuable by this point.
Probably not but also, why would you remove it from the box haha it's a collectors piece
It's a classic, still got mine boxed.
I've never seen that before. I used to have the green version which included the Born Slippy music video and outtakes
why orange glasses? this isn't in the movie
My guess is its a reference to the scene where Renton and Sick Boy are in the park as Renton wears glasses in a similar style, and obviously the orange is a massive part of the film branding, maybe just a mix of the two?
