We asked listeners how they're budgeting in the new year, and one Ogdenite wrote about taking the train to SLC instead of driving. I took UTA to my interviews for this story to see how public transit compares to your own four wheels.

It only works well if you’re going somewhere near where the train is, otherwise you gotta catch a bus or something which adds so much time.
I grew up riding the bus everywhere so dont come after me with some dumb shit.
If you can do a multimodal commute with a bike for first and last mile(s) it's an amazing system, but if you have to hop between train and bus it's not ideal given the amount of time you'll be waiting for transfers (as highlighted in the article). If we could improve connections, especially between the east/west divide, and a better airport to canyons or airport to Park City situation, we could vastly improve the system... However, the people in charge are actively fighting the Rio Grande Plan, arrogantly plowing forward with a plan to upgrade Salt Lake Central Station, and don't get me started on the gondola, so I'm not optimistic.
I just spent a nice weekend with my boyfriend in downtown SLC. We parked for a few nights at our hotel and took trax around. VERY good if you're staying mostly around downtown imo.
Otherwise I usually take the frontrunner to comic con and that's MUCH better than parking and driving.
