Centerpointe Legacy Theater did the same thing as well for every one of their main stage shows this season. It baffles me that these are art institutions that would rather use AI slop than use existing materials or pay a local artist chump change (I’m guessing SOMEONE would be willing to do it for a nominal fee)

My husband and I saw Pride and Prejudice there last night and they used a bunch of AI images for the set backgrounds and it was crazy distracting since it looked so bad. It’s so disappointing, especially since the actors, costume designers, and set builders do a ton of work.
Oh my gosh, for the set backgrounds?? That is awful. I saw Sound of Music and the sets were great but the AI was really distracting on the playbill and the upcoming show posters. I might honestly ask for a refund if it were in all the sets. How can we make it clear they’re disappointing a bunch of their customers? Haha
I know some people who work there, and fortunately there has been so much pushback from the production and acting teams that they aren’t doing any more AI slop for next year’s season. I agree that it looked awful and was really distracting from the otherwise amazing performances.
I noticed this when I saw the Christmas story musical last week. I wrote them an email to let them know how disappointing it was to try and support the arts just to see them using AI slop.
As an artist who has been almost completely displaced by the theft/plagiarism engine that is “AI,” a big FU to Ballet West for pulling something like this.
Unfortunately becoming more and more popular in the theater, ballet, and opera world and will likely continue to contribute to a much larger problem.
Send an email and tell them that the usage of AI impacts your willingness to buy tickets. That’s seems to be the only thing that upper management in the performing arts seems to ever be responsive to.

Utah is really very fortunate to have such a beautiful production of The Nutcracker put on by Ballet West every year. promotional materials like these cheapen their brand & performance, and disrespect our state's professional artists & designers. their sets and costumes would not impress if they were created or designed by generative AI; there is no reason to diminish the craftsmanship of the actual show with this garbage.
Look at their sponsors… organizations that purport to support the arts. Maybe let them know your disappointments in the organizations they are funding.

Are they doing a gender bent variation of Nutcracker, or did they literally just not realize that making the guy and the nutcracker the focal point in that manner makes it look like that's what they're advertising?
that link has the same poster. it's an ai image. it might be a "stock image", but stock images can be ai. look at any object in the background. nothing is identifiable as a real object.

I was disappointed in how much AI slop I came across in stores this year while Christmas shopping.
Not even just stores, go to any of the local market stands and there's several that are full of the slop. It's really awful to see.

It requires at least a tiny bit of aesthetic recognition to make an even moderately non vomit inducing ai image.

It's not the way the real poster looks. Something is very skewed with this. Not a good photo of it. I do know that the background is a stock image.
