[English version]
We visited the place on a weekday evening. We parked the car at a nearby supermarket and walked with our flashlights to the side/back of the property. We entered through a loose sheet of metal, which provided enough space to get in, although you can make a lot of noise if you're not careful. We went in and walked through the undergrowth, wary of snakes, but found nothing. In fact, the largest animals we encountered were small lizards. Anyway, we entered through the side and came across the pool. We walked around it until we reached the center, where there is a staircase that takes you directly up one or two floors (in the central part). Wow, what a building! That arch shape formed by the buildings and the deterioration from 16 years of abandonment give it a very exciting touch. We only climbed one of the towers because, when we were on the third/fourth floor in a room with graffiti from other urban explorers, they shone flashlights on us from the main entrance of the property. And from there, they slowly approached: three people on bicycles. We didn't even have time to leave our note on the walls of the Sonesta. But we didn't leave either. The last thing we wanted was to go down and run into them. And at night, what was easier? Well, to keep climbing and, in the worst case, hide.
So we went floor by floor exploring the tower. Two stairwells sets, elevators in the middle. Kitchens and bathrooms built into every room, with fans folded like closed flowers, plus large circular structures fallen on each main balcony. We saw some bottles that had been used recently, perhaps days (or weeks) ago. One room was closed, which we chose not to enter because everything around it felt more pristine than the rest of the spaces.
We went up to the terrace where you have a complete view of the city and the entire resort around you. It's really cool. The elevator system is also very interesting. We heard two loud noises on the floor below the terrace, but we didn't find anyone else. Anyway, otro pedo standing on the terrace and two other buildings on its left and right sides, just an adrenaline-filled jump away one from each other, hahaha. Then we decided to go straight down and leave. We went to the first floors, the ones that we avoided at the beginning, where there were no rooms but large spaces that could be lobbies or common/administrative/whatever areas. We went back the way we came in, and I think I saw some lights following us: we were in vulnerable space. Also we were nervous. Let's just say we used the flashlight almost the entire time since we started going downstairs.
When we were exploring the area opposite to where we were spotted the first time, we found two more people, unrelated to the other guys, on the ground floor on the opposite side to where we entered. We assumed they were other guys doing urbex, but a little while later, the people with lights who had shone them on us (who we are almost certain were security) were standing around where we had seen the two guys. They continued to shine their lights on the windows around all the towers and at some point they left, never entering any of the towers. Still, didn’t know if the two guys stayed away from them or they followed them back to the exit.
We went outside and walked back to the car. In the car, we breathed a sigh of relief and were very happy because we had made it. I would have loved to explore the other towers, but at the same time, I know that we found the essence of Sonesta in the one building we went in. Nothing fell on us, no animals bit us, and we didn't come face to face with anyone. Jacó, you're a 100 out of 10.
