I know there’s a million posts on good coffee in the upper west side, but I’m wanting to make sure the place I choose will have some space and I’ll be able to grab a table for a few people. Visiting and meeting with two people for coffee in the UWS. Have seen a lot of people saying Solid State. Any locals care to share their thoughts on a good spot?

  • Irving Farm on 79th has lots of tables, usually at least a few available. The coffee is a bit mediocre but it’s a good place to hang out for a group.

Solid State is much better coffee, and has tables, but it’s usually pretty crowded. Coin flip whether you’d be able to get a table for a group or not.

  • Sote Coffee is so cute and the owners Arber and Bessa are lovely

I comment Sote on every coffee post. Best coffee on the UWS

ETA: it’s always crowded and may not be the best place for a large group

  • Charlotte Cafe is my go to every morning - always make a great espresso and the vibes are great. People sit there as you would at a European cafe.

    Seconding Charlotte Cafe

Tried to like it but it smelled like wet dish rag and the floors / tables were quite dirty (as can be expected at a cafe that sells pastries, not entirely their fault), for those reasons I couldn’t sit and enjoy. Lots of positive reviews on this place though, I will try again

That’s a bit harsh - it’s a popular cafe and with the snow, there are lots of people going in and out with wet clothes/shoes. That may be what you were dealing with.

Definitely give it a try again. There is a whole community that sits there daily reading, chatting, working. It is a true 3rd space.

  • For a table and great coffee: La Bomboniera on 82nd (between Broadway and Amsterdam)

  • French roast is pretty reliable.

  • Picky Barista proudly brews stumpton coffee and I’m all for it

  • Slate Cafe?

  • Just places with seats and decent coffee that haven’t been mentioned: Sipsteria often has room and the coffee is pretty good. Frame has good coffee but is often packed, but at the right time of day could be good. Edgar’s Cafe has quality coffee and places to sit, but it isn’t like a total standout for its coffee.

i like Sipsteria but it turns into a club at night

  • Chaotic Good on 84th and Amsterdam, they are a board game cafe with tables a plenty. However no espresso, only drip coffees and tea.

Came here to suggest Chaotic Good - average coffee, immaculate vibes

  • La Farine on Broadway. Great seating including a large booth upstairs.

  • I love Edgar’s cafe - think the vibes are great there and have never been disappointed by the coffee or the desserts. I’ve also been loving zelma’s caffe around 102nd and Broadway. Not too much seating but whenever I’ve been it’s not too crowded so I’ve had a spot to sit

  • I guess not Blue Bottle but it’s the best coffee.

  • Try Dunkin Donuts. Pro tip, enter the code: Produnktivity into the app and you get a free one

    Have had horrible espresso there
