I can only think of ones where the victim had already passed but a witness claimed they saw them after. Off the top of my head, I remember the following:
Kathy Lynn that people thought was seen at the New Kids on the Block concert and that a woman believes she spoke to on another occasion.
Kurt Sova was seen jumping into a van when he was actually dying/dead in the basement.
Another case where a victim was supposedly seen driving in another state when she was killed locally.

Kari's killer confessed.

Craig Williamson was spotted on a train acting confused two weeks after he went missing. He was later found alive when he turned himself in to Unsolved Mysteries. He claimed a head injury caused amnesia, but that’s highly debatable as he was facing heavy debts.

I’ve always wondered how reliable these witness sightings are. So many people have been convicted of a crime they didn’t commit because of police photo lineups. The recent case of Linda and Gary lightfoot. A woman on Facebook swore she saw them eating a restaurant in Albuquerque and they were probably already dead In their car. Mitrice Richardson father swore he saw her in Vegas but she was probably already dead in California.
People are extremely bad at recognizing strangers, especially across racial lines. Add to that the fact that if you're aware enough of a missing person's case to think the random stranger you saw was the missing person, you're probably primed to see them in any stranger that looks close, and you have a recipe for mistaken identity.

The kid was with a man; the picture is of him on a ride I believe, the kid’s name started with A. I believe the kid was from Brazil and they found horrible pictures associated with an abuse ring with him in it also. I believe many truly see the sighting at Disney as legitimate- I will update this comment

Many so called sightings of missing people have turned out to be false. In those cases, the victim’s body was eventually found and it was determined they were dead before the supposed sighting or a person confessed to killing the person the day they disappeared and lead authorities to the body. Not only is visual identification unreliable, memories can also be influenced by what the person sees or reads about a case. Most times, it’s simply a case of mistaken identity. Sometimes it’s someone wanting attention making the claim. And sometimes it’s even some sick person pretending to be the missing person.
