Hello everyone! I wanted to bring an update to a case I covered only about a month ago.

You can read my previous post about Jerica here, but to recap:

Jerica Hamre was last seen at her home in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA, on the 25th of June 2024. On the 22nd, three days before she vanished, she was attacked by her roommates (a man and two women)- she had severe bruising and a broken nose. During a convo with her friend, Jerica revealed that she "wasn't happy" with her living situation, and that it "wasn't working out like she thought it would". She reported the incident to the police but decided not to press charges.

Jerica's family got worried after not hearing from her for a few days. The last straw for them was when she missed a scheduled visitation with her children on the 29th.

Search efforts for Jerica included the search of a certain property in Overton, Nebraska, but no evidence had been found.

Jerica's body has been located recently by accident on a rural farm just north of Oxford, Nebraska. A man working in a field was preparing the property for sale and found Jerica's body in one of the outbuildings.

Jerica's body has allegedly been there for "some time", but her exact time of death isn't clear- forensic investigators will be working on narrowing down her exact time of death.

Her case is being treated as a homicide. Investigators have a person of interest in custody for an unrelated crime- it's unclear if it's the same person that has been in custody when I covered the case a month ago. There is no ongoing threat to the public.

My sincere condolences to Jerica's family and loved ones. I hope that justice will be served soon.

Rest easy, Jerica.

If you have any info about Jerica's whereabouts, contact the Lincoln Police Department at 402-441-6000 (case number C4-058479) or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.

  • She was a friend of mine I worked with her for a short time in kearney. I hope they find whoever did this.

I'm glad her children and family have her back, they know she didn't abandon them, they can lay her to rest 😞

I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope they can bring someone(s) to justice.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I hope they'll find them soon too.

I'm sorry you lost your friend. Hopefully you'll get some answers about what happened soon.

    I’m sorry for your loss!

so sorry for your loss, the person who did this will get what they deserve

So sorry for your loss, would you like to share a favorite memory of her ?

they already know who did it

  • That poor girl, and that poor farmer.

  • Heartbreaking that she wasn't able to get somewhere safe and press charges after the initial assault. May she and her poor family get justice and find peace

  • Well this is a first to find out my neighbor was finally found and it's on reddit

I'm so sorry you had to find out this way. I can't imagine how that feels.

Well I'm unsure how to feel I feel like I left out important information to the investigators and now there seems to be some confusion I'm unsure if what I couldn't say that day would have helped find her sooner and prevent someone from going to jail she did fight with him while he tried to escape and stay away from her but still I'm unsure weather that changes anything I'll call tomorrow once I'm home can't call them from the place I'm staying at sadly mom is currently in contact with them she was her upstairs neighbor I already informed her of this a year ago

If you’re telling the truth, you need to call and report what you know. A lot of cases can progress with even the smallest seeming tip. Sometimes all the little pieces show the investigators very important details.

What's odd is I did say that to the investigators now that I remember but they seemed preoccupied and I didn't say all of the information now that I remember more I'll definitely update them tomorrow

Call them and tell them everything you know. ASAP.

Alright I will when I get home tomorrow I can't make that kinda call where I'm at currently sadly

Let us know how you get on. This is someone’s mum and I’m sure they’d want all the info they can get.

Ok well atm were waiting for a call back and yes I did get home I'm doing better my workers helped me a bunch along with the very kind staff there I kinda miss it so as of rn it's in the hands of the police on weather they'll call us back probably won't be until after Christmas which sucks but they do have my number from the original report as well so if they do need follow up questions I'll happily provide more I also messaged mods here for that verification I'm unsure what they'll ask but I'll also provide whatever i can if requested

You did a good thing. Glad to hear you’re feeling better. Merry Christmas!

    Merry Christmas and thank you

Dw I will call tomorrow once I'm out the ward

Good luck with your health too!

You could always contact the police with the information you have. Whether it amounts to anything would be up to them but you could rest your "what ifs" knowing you did what you could

Alright I will when I get home tomorrow I can't make that kinda call where I'm at currently sadly

Is this a joke to you or just spam? You are saying you could have valuable information and you “can’t call where you’re at currently”? This is a HOMICIDE investigation. If you feel you are not in a stable situation then I urge you to seek help yourself so you do not end up like she did. There are plenty of resources for this. Beyond that, make the call. It could make the difference in a solved case and justice or a case that goes cold the next 25 years.

No need to resort to insulting them and jumping to baseless conclusions equating op's situation with the last thing you read about. The likelihood of talking with police now or 12 hours later isn't going to break this case.

It was not baseless, if you read their above comments they mentioned multiple times about having information about this case and the possible suspects. Beyond that, I was not just “equating op’s situation with the last thing I read about.” Instead of posting on Reddit multiple times about the inside knowledge they have about a homicide case, take it to the proper channels. If this was your daughter or mother you probably would not have made such a useless comment that 12 hours can’t make or break a case.

And I will once I'm out of the mental ward also look at my most recent post it shows the apartment and cross reference off the news videos it'll show an image of my apartment complex she lived in apt 1 I helped clean out her apartment for crying outloud I do not need more stress please

Yea well according to recent news their suspect is already in custody and they said there is no threat to the public, so I guess you can rest easy.

Yo, chill. It sounds like they’re in the hospital and will get to it as soon as they can. Their first post wasn’t exactly coherent.

I was in the hospital about a month ago for seizures, pumped full of Valium. I wasn’t in the state of mind to call the police for any reason.

Voluntary mental ward we can have phones in this one but I'm like 99% sure if I start talking to police or an investigator I'd lose my phone and be in trouble it was the same at another place I stayed at

This. Mental health is #1. The person is going through something most of us cant fathom. Empathy people

Whoa, slow down there Columbo, they said they’d call when they got to a place where they can. Nothing is gonna happen in the next 12 hours that is sooo crucial it couldn’t have waited a day. They have a suspect in custody, they are probably still doing/waiting to do an autopsy. Just chill, shit will get handled. Are you always such a busybody or are you just having a bad day?

I'm literally in a mental ward that is voluntary I was having suicidal ideations a few nights ago no not spam if you need proof I have images of the outside of my apartment complex decorated for Christmas please be nice

Don't worry about that other person. Your health comes first always. As awful as it sounds, she's already gone and the authorities will have their own leads. You are still here.

And while it might not feel like it, that is a good thing. Feel well soon.

Thank you I get out tomorrow I already told mom to forward my number if she can to the investigators she's talking with

Good luck with making progress towards feeling better. Thank you for being brave and contacting the authorities again, thats stressful when youre already dealing with something intense.

Someone waiting 12 to 24 hours to relay what they may know about a homicide case is unlikely to so significantly make a case investigation not proceed ahead, or go "cold" so quickly. There have been several cases where people have waited several months, or even years, before picking up the phone, and sometimes it makes a difference, and sometimes its of no consequence.

There are several reasons why someone may not be able to contact investigators as quickly as you personally think they should. People work. Someone could be an overnight nurse at a hospital; have familial obligations; want to write down what they know or get together the information they have; be in an area that is rural or with unreliable phone reception; could be a patient in a hospital, work on an oil rig, be in the middle of traveling due to the holidays, or caring for someone who has been in an accident or is ill, for all anyone knows.

The important thing is the person said they will make contact very soon. I am sorry if you have been personally affected by Homicide, and perhaps that may account for your unwarranted aggression, but you can't control when someone does something or not.

Any user claiming to be involved in or otherwise linked to a mystery must submit verification to the mods. "Linked" means direct social or familial ties to someone involved in the case, whether it's you, or the victim, suspect, detective, or their family.

No soliciting or donation site links - it's not ok to urge users to donate to a victim's fund.

If you're in possession of evidence you believe to be related to an unresolved mystery, please contact the authorities instead of posting here.

  • Heartbreaking for her family, only solace is at least she has been found.

  • I'm guessing this isn't going to take a lot of solving

  • Some people are monsters.

  • How sad that you can’t even be safe living with roommates nowadays. I hope her case gets solved sooner than later.

You are safer from violent crime in the USA, in almost all respects, nowadays than even a decade ago. In Nebraska, the violent crime rate in 2024 was ~ 221 per 100,000 people, lower than the average for the US. This has steadily decreased from the 1970s.

Overexposure to true crime and crime reporting make it seem like things are more dangerous than they are. There’s nothing particularly dangerous about living with roommates “nowadays” than in the past. In fact, it is almost certainly safer with additional security checks available to the average person.

Thank you for being a voice of sanity.

This community loves to pedal conspiracies on vibes more than just looking at objective statistics

Is it any less safe than ever, or do we just hear more about the incidents that do happen?

I think this is a key narrative to avoid when discussing crime.

    nowadays

    Got bad news

worst part is we‘re basically all forced to live with roommates in the economy

    they were in a relationship

  • It is odd that her body is found 3 hours away from Lincoln near the town where her parents live.

  • they were not roommates they were in a relationship

    all four of them?

    [deleted]

i mean sure i’m just asking if it happened in this case cause this commenter seems really adamant about it…

Yeah. that is weird. I don’t see any evidence of that, I’m just saying that four people dating each other isn’t impossible. I didn’t see how weirdly adamant this person was, though

If they were, that info wasn't relayed in any of my sources. The three were only described as Jerica's "roommates".
