Yeah it's possible and that would recharge the brakes. Maybe the higher gears of the transmission are messed up but neutral still works? Still, towing with a strap like that is very dangerous on its own.
If it’s an automatic transmission isn’t letting it roll like that in neutral bad for it? I know if it was a stick it isn’t but I heard that for an automatic transmission that’s bad.
Oh it's not legal anywhere. I'm just saying, explorer probably can't run which is why it's being towed, but the brakes still work. They have someone in there to apply brakes so they do have a plan to stop the crackhead caravan when they need to.
They would, of course, have to stop SOMETIME. I imagine they would just slow down and slow down to... nothing. Hopefully, they never need to slam on the brakes! :)
Towing with a rope is bad. Towing an SUV thats towing a truck bed towing a fifth wheel with a strap is absolutely fucking insane. Holy shit, you'd need the reaction time of an NHL goalie.
My interpretation of things is that there's got to be no way that little car is towing all that mess...right? Maybe the truck is overloaded or having engine trouble so its towing capacity got reduced and these....creative people (as a polite term) figured it just needed a little extra help.
I’m guessing the Expedition developed transmission slip and buddy in the Buick is helping out, which is to say they’re both propelling it. The 3800 is a good motor, but it isn’t Jesus, nor is that 4T-60 transmission. That Buick wasn’t set up to tow more than 10,000 pounds of rolling weight, as this setup appears to be. It definitely wasn’t designed to stop that much weight.
Absolutely. Ive had quite a few of those and they are bulletproof as long as they don't have the plastic intake manifold. I have had to replace a few of those after they warp.
That old Buick is torquing like a beast. The mighty 3.8 V6 is probably wondering why it ended up doing this while his other Buick bros cart old ladies to church once a week.
Am I crazy or isn't the video clearly staged? I didn't even see the driver you were referring to but assumed there was a driver because a single strap like that doesn't seem like it could withstand that much weight. So the car is just pretending to pull the truck for the sake of the video
I don't think my eyes have ever widened in such a cartoonish manner from a video. I mean this might actually be the most insane thing I've seen someone do. Sure I've seen people do stupider stuff, especially without thinking. But this guy was thinking. This guy hitched an RV to a a truck bed trailer. Then he hitched that trailer to an SUV. Then he took a god damn tow strap and hitched that suv to a goddamn sedan. And that whole time he was just like "Yeah, that'll do. This ain't going nowhere." I mean dudes who flash loaded guns aren't this crazy. People who fuck with wild crocodiles and bears and shit aren't this crazy. People who take selfies next to trains aren't this crazy. I mean one really dumb choice is one thing, but this guy sat down and made a whole day out of a series of really fucking terrible choices.
Well, you say that, but living in the southern part of the US. I’ve seen this a bunch. At least twice a month I see this. People pulling 2 to 3 vehicles in some old suv or minivan doing this exact same method. From what I’ve learned, most the time they are taking these vehicles that they bought cheap at auction, and selling them down in Mexico.
Towing like this (I agree there's more being towed here than i would be comfortable with) can be done safely as long as the tow rope is kept taught.
Front car does the pulling and should only very lightly brake and hold brakes when stationary. Car being towed should be doing all the braking and anticipating any need to stop, they are responsible for braking for the car in front as well.
Should the tow rope go slack it risks being damaged and/or damaging the vehicles.

Looks like the RV is being towed by a truck, nope just another trailer being towed by a minivan, being towed by a sedan????

"reach out your left arm.... Good.... Now, extend your middle finger"
“Go for it Stephanie”
I knew the GIF looked familiar but couldn't place it...UNTIL I saw your quote 😆
“Hey your lights aren’t hooked up!”
Or go around a tight curve going downhill
Someone is in the explorer and everything behind that is on a legit tow. Hopefully the brake man has a quick foot though.
"Legit" isnt the word id use here.
"..and everything behind that is on a legit tow."
Without the engine running the power brakes will only have a couple pumps in them before they won't work anymore. This is insanely dangerous.
Could the engine possibly be running and in neutral gear for some hypothetical reason?

It's an Expedition
State patrol approved 🥇
Talking out your rear, friend. You don't even know where this is--how could you know what's legal or not? Legitimate is a meaningless term here.

How well does the vacuum assist work without any engine running?
Hint, it doesn't......
Without the engine running the power brakes will only have a couple pumps in them before they won't work anymore. This is insanely dangerous.
Valid. The highway is a scary place.
I was thinking the same thing, declining in winter is a rough chance
Or turn even slightly
They would, of course, have to stop SOMETIME. I imagine they would just slow down and slow down to... nothing. Hopefully, they never need to slam on the brakes! :)
Or switch lanes
There’s people in both vehicles
Lead car prolly doesn't have brakes.
I can’t decide if this is impressive resourcefulness or a landmark in terrible decisions. That suspension has seen things.
Towing with a rope or strap is bad. Someone in the vehicle being towed has to have good breaks and good reaction time.

It's clearly illegal and very dangerous. I mean does the trailer even brakes hooked up jfc
Nah no brakes but the axle is a bit fucky on one side so it's like driving with brakes on all the time! Nothing to worry about!
NHL facing severe goalie shortage has entered the chat.
Just add all the tow ratings together, it's fine (/s)
My interpretation of things is that there's got to be no way that little car is towing all that mess...right? Maybe the truck is overloaded or having engine trouble so its towing capacity got reduced and these....creative people (as a polite term) figured it just needed a little extra help.
This can certainly end very badly.
You’d think they’d have at least fed the strap through a long pipe.
or the cars all turn into one lmao

I think all the bad decisions cancel out and turn it into some sort of super-car that only destiny can tame
Terrible decision, no question. It scares me to think anyone would ever even, for a single second, think this was impressive resourcefulness.
The RV's name is Terry. Terry must be an optimist if he thinks following this parade of poor life decisions is a good idea.
¿Por qué no los dos?
I'd say it's a landmark of bad decisions...
Terrible. He has to stop even slightly abruptly, their car is totaled and they’re losing control of the other vehicles likely hurting others
Or ai. This is one of the few times I hope it's ai-generated.

I was half-expecting a motorcycle to be pulling the last car.
The performance of the GM 3800 Series II knows no bounds!
Came here looking for this comment. Those engines are absolute beasts.
Just wish the rest of the vehicle around them could be half as good.
Those Buicks are stupid bullet proof. I saw one years ago traded in with 440000 kms on it. Unheard of in this area.
Got mine up to 240k miles with just some suspension work and brake line replacement.
3800 superiority
The 4t60 in that thing, however....
The unstoppable load meets the indestructible car.
Absolutely. Ive had quite a few of those and they are bulletproof as long as they don't have the plastic intake manifold. I have had to replace a few of those after they warp.

3800!
I had a 3800. Thing was nasty.
Legit one of the best motors GM ever made.
You didn't clean it?
Not even once. Lol. But it did get to race a lot.
My first thought also. Freaking bulletproof.
Best motor I've ever owned
22
That thing looks like it’s being held together by hope and a couple straps. I’m shocked it’s even rolling in a straight line.
It looks like there is someone in the driver's seat of the truck...but I think that raises more questions.
You can't tow with a rope or strap unless the tow vehicle has someone to operate the brakes.
You shouldn't.
Am I crazy or isn't the video clearly staged? I didn't even see the driver you were referring to but assumed there was a driver because a single strap like that doesn't seem like it could withstand that much weight. So the car is just pretending to pull the truck for the sake of the video
This feels less like a roadtrip and more like a physics experiment no one agreed to run.
If it tows...we goes.
That ass end of the pickup trailer fighting for its absolute life
That camper looks like it decided the truck was optional and just kept going anyway. Truly a commitment to the destination.
Them Buicks were built to last
What song is this? Edit, I found it!
Such a good song / artist
That strap means as soon at they brake, everything behind them plows straight into the car.
No, it means the person in the RV will also hit the brakes.
Honestly looks like the exact moment someone said “it’ll be fine” and then committed way too hard to the bit.
They tugged the strap, "that's not going anywhere"
I had that buick model. Thing had a v8 and could rip despite it being a boat of a car. A whole lot of backseat room too (wink, ahem, cough).
That beast lasted forever too until someone slammed into me and totaled it. Doesnt mean I would ever tow something with it using a strap.
That can’t be legal.
PUT IT IN REVERSE, TERRY!
I laughed so hard I started coughing
That's a commercial for that strap company any day of the week

Song name is Nightcall by Kavinsky
Here, fixed the background music. 🎵 Holiday Road 🎵

Also Nightcall - Kavinsky for anyone looking for the existing one
Thank you! I used to be so big into Kavinsky and I just couldn't remember for the life of me.
Damn that’s impressive
I hope this person doesn't have to stop quick
They’re putting alot of faith in that car

Whhhhhhat!!!!
That 3.8 4T60 combo putting in work!!
Dad?
That can’t be legal.
Who knew Buick had that kind of hauling capability
Wait, how the hell would you stop and not have the two vehicles behind you not crash into you? 😂
That's redneck as it can be
I guess that is all they have
I'd be pulled over 10 seconds after I started driving, yet, this guy goes along without a worry.
Hey, it's that Caravan Palace people keep singing about! /s
Something tells me old Jed’s a millionaire now
Reminds me of Trailer Park Boys
Some kind of stupid..No care about others on the road. A disaster waiting to happen.
is this in kentucky? just saying...
I half expected to see someone on a 10 speed in front of that Buick pedaling furiously.
I'm sure I've seen a sovereign citizen video of the driver.
Why is he driving in the left lane?
Reminds me of the opening shot of Spaceballs. It just keeps going.
"Hello, 911. What is your emergency?"
CONVOY
We just uncritically allowing fake as fuck stuff and pretending it's unexpected?

No matter how many cars you've seen Daisy chained together you have not seen what appears in this video.
Going by the comments literally everyone believes this car is towing all of that with one strap 😅
That strap is working hard today.
That deserves a call to highway patrol...
I assume the driver in the SUV has the job of hitting the brakes and praying .
No way this is legal!
Is this Thomas and friends?
Tonight, on Top Gear
It’s My truck boat truck!
https://i.redd.it/fi46019cel6g1.gif
Saving this for everyone that says they need a giant pickup for towing things.
That ain’t no sedan, that’s a Bonneville!
I’m no expert but I’m pretty sure this is all kinds of illegal
So he can only go on straight roads? And what happens when he needs to stop?
https://i.redd.it/gk9zjoefil6g1.gif
Hopefully there's someone in the second car to hit the brakes and steer
I was hoping for horses in the camper
What in the West Virginia, is this?
I always dreamed of having a nice truck to tow an RV, as well as a ski boat, then maybe a side-by-side or a couple of dirt bikes.
I was half expecting a motorbike pulling the whole thing at the front. But then again, I have been watching some physics bending movies recently
Ok. Really unexpected Lolol. Was looking for a big ol’ truck in front
Didn't expect this song for it. It's a jam and a half. About you boooooy.
You like dags?
I love how they're in the fast lane. LOL
Is Xzibit driving?
The wheels are going backwards, no?
I just know this is from my homeland
Yea but can it make it up a hill?
There is no way this is real? This dude had to of crashed! How would he be able to break?
Was about to say "typical Ford Expedition activities" but then I saw the Lacrosse... wtf 🤣
What is this song? I hear it a lot.
Ngl I didn’t even check audio before posting this lol
Siri says it’s Broken by K Dinero
3800 actually doesn't quit wtf
The the expedition in the middle is used soley for brakes
AND in the left lane!
I would probably do this - but - you would find me creeping along in the right lane or on back roads.
I would be interested in seeing a video of this caravan starting up! I imagine that little car has a JOB to get all of them rolling!
I was waiting for a bicycle to be in the front
Good old #2482
What is this song?
How do you stop though?
This looks tricky. I hope they got where they needed to go safely
Just out for a Drive
r/idiotstowingthings
Hope they never need to slow down
What in tar-nation?!?
I saw a mustang towing a tow truck towing a 70’s ford truck this summer
Georgia?
Why am I not surprised that they’re in the left lane as well??
Just one badly placed bump is all it needs
Just like Daytona, just get in draft and get ready for the “big one”
What a wild ride
Giving Cousin Eddie Christmas Vacation vibes. Rolling in with the chaos.
That... cant be safe or legal
No CDL required
The road train
That RV has its own matching Solo cups.
Jazz hands!!
That’s no road trip. They’re moving.
The video is actually in reverse, that janky contraption ultimately sped past them on the freeway 🤪
Looks like a great teachable moment for chat.
