I was a very academic highschooler who took a theater production class for a required vocational credit. A lesson that has really stuck with me was one day that I needed to cut an angled brace and wasn't sure how to figure out the length I needed. I sat down for a while, worked out the trig, considered the thickness of the board and how long it would be on both sides, took into account that a 2x4 isn't actually 2" thick, etc.,.....cut the piece, and it didn't fit.
I went to the teacher and was like "okay, what did I do wrong? How to apporach this?". She plopped a board down across the gap, and drew lines where the boards were that I wanted to meet.
A couple months later I had a similar situation where I wanted a diagonal brace across a rectangular opening. I put the wood down, drew the lines, cut it...and when I set it in, it sat on the edge a bit, then I tapped it and it thunked in perfectly. I was so proud.
The video was a bit misleading. It seemed like the zagged edge part is already installed/stuck and the flat edge one came to the rescue. Turns out, the zaggered one can be removed easily.
Except that is literally the weakest possible joint. End grain to end grain doesn't hold up at all with glue as the tubes suck away they glue preventing it from bonding, and with nails or screws you generally want more surface area in contact to keep the torque from working the fasteners out.
I didn’t notice which sub this was but when I saw the third line wasn’t measured in reference to anything I realized something funky was up. Then when they drew Xs on the lines rather than just the side being cut away I was certain.
This one, and the gods’ plan one reversed, where it looks like drake is taking money from a crying mother are my favorite gifs lol. Never fails to make me laugh.
The sketch actually has some weird ADR throughout it. Supposedly it was originally about "ants" and a some point they changed it to "farts" in post. You can kind of see her say "ants" in the gif
The original line was "the ants isn't a problem," but dubbed over by farts for an unknown reason. The awkward dialogue and word choice are just how Tim Robinson writes.
Not just hilarious… the first planned cut wooden’t (sorry) have worked. Look at the third line he draws, it’s just a random line, not parallel or lined up with anything.
He uses the parallel ruler lines, using the width of the ruler to line up cut lines from one side of the ruler to the other but the ruler isn’t wide enough to map the depth of the zig zag pattern
Yeah, I thought this was bullshit 5-minute-crafts-esque rage bait when he did the third line randomly that would just turn out perfectly because they did the actual measuring differently off screen.
I had to repeat the part of how the 3 initial lines were drawn many times, wondering why someone would do it that way. Trying to figure out the benefit. And when I was ready to accept it would be a mess or lucky shot and continued the video I realized the person knew exactly what they were doing.
Same. First two I was fine with, then kept rewinding the video to figure out wtf was up with that third line, what was I missing? I want to say it'd have been better trolling if they tried harder to make it look real up til the reveal, but doing this way made me rewind it a bunch so can't say they weren't successful.

OP sent the following text as an explanation why their post fits here:
You no need measure, just pull the wood out and slide the other to fit it.

A person who thinks all the time
Has nothing to think about except thoughts
So, he loses touch with reality and lives in a world of illusions.
Basking in a bath of poutine gravy, wondering how did he get there.
These are not my beautiful curds. These are not my beautiful fries.
Superb!
LETTING THE DAYS GO BY. LET THE GRAVY HOLD ME DOWN.
By “thoughts” I mean specifically chatter in the skull: perpetual and compulsive repetition of words, of reckoning and calculating.
I'm not saying that thinking is bad; like everything else it's useful in moderation, a good servant but a bad master.
And all so-called civilized peoples have increasingly become crazy and self-destructive.
because, through excessive thinking, they have lost touch with reality.
That's to say, we confuse signs...
With the real world.

I love that speech but I hope you mean the song because that's an awesome song
Inzo - Overthinker
Yes sir
I was just thinking of that song too! Lol I heard the beat drop as soon as I read the last comment in that chain. 😂
Is that fucking overthinker song?
Fire
This shit has me screaming. Those videos were fucking hilarious
These 2 gifs are my exact reactions.
First one seeing the video and second one when reading the sub coming from r/all. Lmao
Oh sure, everyone applauds,
but when I try to fit wood, all of a sudden I'm being called into HR
Talk to your teacher's union, they'll pay the family out.
The real r/Unexpected is in the comments
Yep. Too early for this shit.
Now that was actually unexpected. I was hoping for some cool woodwork
This was actually cool wood work, everything just doesn't need to be complicated Sometimes a simple solution to your problem is in front of your eyes.
That was clever woodwork at best
Cool woodwork would have included something cool
guys i think this was just woodwork
Fine, woodwork would work.
How much woodwork would a woodwork work if a woodwork could.. Oh...noo...... it doesn't work.
100% Would. I mean 100% Wood. I mean Would Wood.
"cut the planks straight before you install them" is kinda the opposite of clever tbh
They teach you this at log college
Hey. Are you saying working smart isn't cool?! Hows them waffles taste pancake hater!

If you don't need it, cut it off. Words I live by.
Lorena Bobbitt has entered the chat.
"cool wood work" it was on an unfinished pair of slats, it's not like it was some kind of repair
it was "cool" in the sense of "yes, you cut the wood straight while making the thing"
it's just engagement bait, nothing more
No, it was a gag...
Would have looked better to keep the triangular bits though, the grain would have lined up much better
I had assumed the right side wood was fixed... Then I was amused that why did I assume that...
The video was a bit misleading. It seemed like the zagged edge part is already installed/stuck and the flat edge one came to the rescue. Turns out, the zaggered one can be removed easily.
But how did he cut wood with a marker?
It’s a sharpie
Cool is overrated when boring gets the job done.

No, I'm a carpenter and this is about as basic as it gets.
Its extra but you gotta admit the cut would be nice.

The original lines were already wrong.
The third line didn't even line up with anything
I wasn't expecting cool wood work I was expecting a fail seeing he has the wrong shapes but he for me
It was really bothering me how the lines they drew with the ruler weren't lining up but I guess it didn't actually matter at all.
I figured they were going to cut it so it didn't fit and redo it like 3 times.
I didn’t notice which sub this was but when I saw the third line wasn’t measured in reference to anything I realized something funky was up. Then when they drew Xs on the lines rather than just the side being cut away I was certain.
But the transition was super smooth. You couldn’t really tell it wasn’t cut till they removed it.
Where is this from?
Mean Girls
Get in losers, we’re going to the woodworking shop
It's funny that they made this without realizing how accidentally comedic it is
I only know the meme. Don't even know the origin.
Life is Good music video. By future.
I definitely thought this was an ad for like a community college or something
It would definitely work as one!
This one, and the gods’ plan one reversed, where it looks like drake is taking money from a crying mother are my favorite gifs lol. Never fails to make me laugh.
This is so perfect for the video lmao but fuck Drake
Drake catching strays on a random subreddit where a guy cut some wood is hilarious
ffs
Wtf is this and did she really fuck up that it should be "the farts aren't" or "the fart isn't" or was that just an incompetent caption?
It's from "I Think You Should Leave" on Netflix.
Go watch it. Be a shirt brother.
She's saying "This isn't a problem anymore." I can't even see the word "farts" at all, tbh.
The sketch actually has some weird ADR throughout it. Supposedly it was originally about "ants" and a some point they changed it to "farts" in post. You can kind of see her say "ants" in the gif

(Having) the farts isn't a problem anymore, or just "the farts" like "the shits", e.g. I have the shits. It's a really nuanced topic.
You’ve been smoking too many macanudos
The original line was "the ants isn't a problem," but dubbed over by farts for an unknown reason. The awkward dialogue and word choice are just how Tim Robinson writes.
The girls kept laughing at farts so they made them say ants instead, and then used farts.
Tim has said that he's looked towards his kids' dialogue at younger ages as inspiration for weird interactions in the show
I love it when ITYSL shows up in random comment sections of other subs. Lmao.
Rather unexpected
Insanely expected, as in this is like reddits favorite TV show
I don't know that guy
Literally I hope OP is mildly inconvenienced for this post

Applies to so many things in life
Reminded me of a Napoleon quote of making smart and diligent soldiers field commanders and the smart and lazy ones generals
That's just unfair
Wait until you learn he values luck in his generals also 😂
You can’t beat him. He’s smarter than you, he’s LUCKIER than you, whatever you think is gonna happen, the exact opposite reverse thing is!
I'm told I'm not allowed to use Napoleon's solution for the dumb and energetic people around me.

You know what, as an anti-"repeated to oblivion blue collar tricks", I like it, ahahahahahah
Genius.
this is next level trolling
I appreciate the clever rug pull but also...F you for tricking me lol.
The lighter grain doesn’t match up now
Oh no! now they'll find out that the floor is made from multiple different pieces of wood
Well, I’m not buying a house unless the all of the wood is single-origin and from the same giant sequoia
I feel like one day someone will do this. I wonder how long it takes to whittle an entire house.
It wouldn't have matched the other way, either.
Just needs more green marker and the grain wont stand out
Thats why were throwing glitter on it and drowning it in epoxy
Yeah, That Makes Sense!
OP...
I like how subtle the video edit is. I didn't catch it til the second run.
I didn't realize what subreddit this was and got mad for a split second
Fuck you. This is not what i am here for.
https://i.redd.it/dbrat9uq7b6g1.gif
You dink lol
You son of a
The third line wasn’t even lined up with anything. He just slapped the ruler down and drew a line along it
You mf lol
This is stupid.
This was a good one. Lol!
You forgot the wagging finger
I'll allow it.
Well, he has a point.
Had me in the first half meme
I was hoping for some cool wood work! 😅
I really sat here and sat here and watched me sit here and watched me sat here
I just became even dummer!
I’m so pissed right now
Lol
No
ok then lol
Thought I was about to learn something but then looked at the subreddit and realized I wasn't
Thanks. I hate it.
Not sure if this is a good solution you have to think about heat and cold as well
At that third line I was like "that's not right. It's not parallel. It won't work.... Oh fuck me"
Down vote for the marker.
Would have given and up if it were pencil.
We are not fools
... I'm very upset with you right now.
Fuck. You.
Smooth edit, though
The patterns matched up too
If I could fix it, wood.
I was actually thinking about the geometry and math that he was doing
If he cut a few centimeters more, it would’ve matched the lighter part of the wood in the left side
https://i.redd.it/aq4554c21b6g1.gif
This is the best part in a while
classic bait n switch, good one
ari pak asep cageur?
How do you fit wood? BY COLOR AND PATTERN firstly and mostly wtf defective boards were those, looks like that (whatever it is) is already damaged.
wow. great post lol
But now there's a green marker dot on the other piece of wood!
bro
Genuinely unexpected.
Dick head
Flooring guys hate this one trick
The explanation lol makes total sense but also raises more questions
Broooo you had me a little mad, not gonna lie. haha
Should have cut lower, the white strip on the left is still way too wide and doesn't fit.
This taught me a lesson if anything at all.
I was ready to be triggered that they weren’t using a marking knife
Mrs after discovering math
I pre-downloaded the video before watching the end... Fool that I was. 😭
I had to watch it 3 times!
Mad lad
Hey /u/Daendefs,
You did it! Your post is officially the #1 post on Reddit. It is now forever immortalized at /r/topofreddit.
😆🤣
