Holy shit there are so many comments in this thread that are clearly written by chat gpt.
All of them are exactly the same. Account name is two words and some numbers, less than a month old, full of comments on different threads saying the same empty shit.
"Wow, that grandma snatched the money so fast. There's no getting past her. She has clearly spent her life keeping track of things! "
actually horrifying. we're witnessing the death of the internet in our lifetimes
Edit:
I’ve been here from the very beginning. Since orangered and periwinkle, the narwhal bacons at midnight, hovership full of eels, the old reddit switcheroo, chuck testa. I was here talking with Unidan and hating Gallowboob. I watched the rise and fall of gonewild. The migration of digg and later tumblr.
I was here before the fourth comment was downvoted, before also choosing that man’s dead wife, or poop knife, swamps of dagoba, jolly rancher. Before a blue gold dress or loss or breaking both your arms. before poem for a sprog, or shitty watercolor, or rogersimon10 being beaten with jumper cables.
I was here when reddit was good.
And I will still be here when it is reduced to two bots accusing the other.
It’s also the default way that reddit gives you a username if you don’t specify one, so it doesn’t prove anyone with that kind of username is a bot at all
so it doesn’t prove anyone with that kind of username is a bot at all
No, but it's a great first sign.
The kind of people who say "Hmm, I really don't gaf what my username is, even just to make it easier for me to remember and login with" are going to be kind of bot-like to begin with.
So many subreddits get full of bots that overtake all the postings and it's clearly AI generated shit. Their names are two words, followed by a 4 digit number. They're always new accounts, and will only have one post or one comment.
Yeah it died a few years ago tbh. No one is here willingly anymore, we're only here because it's a trillion dollar industry to exploit the psychology of a human to get them to be as addicted as possible to this shit. Funnily enough the internet getting worse over time is what's gonna eventually break the addiction for a lot of people as you can't even pretend that there's anything of value here anymore
Indeed, I started spending money on lego again to spend time off of the internet, recently finished the titanic and the milky way. I still have the Neuschwanstein castle waiting to be built :)
Every time I obsessively doomscroll to the bottom of every single comment section, I feel almost no anxiety that I'm going to run into the butthole guy. I don't even feel alive anymore. What's the point in clicking random links if there's no risk of getting buttholed?
Yep. I feel like I’ve been using the internet less and less in just the last year. Everything feels so curated and manipulative that I don’t ever just stumble upon something interesting anymore. And when I run into ai content and comment sections that remind me of dead internet theory I just want to log off and do anything else
I dunno man, I watched the birth of it, and maybe it's not bad that this goes away so we can spend more time offline doing hobbies, spending time with friends, being outside etc
I know i spend too much time on social media and they got us hooked, so maybe not a bad time to step back.
Who remembers when Yahoo chats were open to the public? Or AOL? I had a Myspace once lol. Those dial up tones connecting to the Internet? Lol. Yeah I was there when the Internet was alive
Is there anywhere on Reddit this is being discussed? I’d like to know more and see what can be done about it (not grand “death of Internet” talk, just about how it might be addressed on Reddit).
It won't get addressed and they have no intention of addressing it because of how effective it is as a manipulation tool to create fake posts and comments. The richest people right now own social media, Reddit is a social media and this problem you're describing is intentional and it's only gonna get worse everywhere
Eh, it's just the default for new names. I created a new account after 15+ years on my last one, and used my Google accoint to create it. And this is what it gave me. I don't think I was given a choice.
I plan to delete this one at the start of the new year too. Anything to mess with algorithms.
Meh, if you can't even summon the absolutely bare minimum of creativity that's required to come up with anything other than a default username, then you don't deserve the minimum effort that's required to figure if you're a bot or not.
I’ve had a couple accounts on different sites that I didn’t bother to name in any unique or creative way. Coming up with a new username gets boring after a while, when you’ve done it a few times for various sites and services.
To build up karma and activity on the account so that it can be used to post in more places that have filters for things like minimum karma. It makes it easier for the bot network to then be able to post various sorts of spam or more effectively carry out astroturfing campaigns.
Actually it was just the default when I created mine.
Yes, that is the default username scheme. Bots all have them because the bot-deployers don't care what username their bots use, and it takes too long to make a few hundred custom usernames.
No if you were a bot you’d say “Wow, this grandmother must be very upset about this, the elderly often struggle to acquire new sources of income even with a sharp memory.”
I'm not, I guess cause every other post is a bot they claim, but I don't know why there'd be so many bots on this particular post unless it was posted by a bot, but the account is 6years old
Because they clearly didn't watch the video, or didn't understand the point of the video, and responded the way ChatGPT would respond if you just gave it the title of the video in a prompt.
The comment has nothing to do with the video. There's no memory game here, and pranking your grandmother is not "such a sweet thing to do." It's funny, and in good cheer, but it's not "such a sweet thing."
Sorry, "Bro," you will literally never convince me that you or any real human on this planet is stupid enough to honestly, genuinely believe this person was intending to play a sweet memory game and just accidentally used a setup for a ball-and-cup trick and then accidentally put a bunch of extra money under the other cups, and then moved them so so so soooo slowly just a couple of times to challenge her memory.
And that the last 1/2 second means nothing at all.
You're just arguing for the sake of arguing right now.
A wee bit of wit and sarcasm added to a comment is lost without all these /s and /j it seems. The comment made sense no matter if they meant it literally or not. Much more than a bot comment would.
A wee bit of wit and sarcasm added to a comment is lost without all these /s and /j it seems.
Sure, now that someone's coming after them, it's all "Oh, it was a joke! Oh, it was sarcastic!" Keep making up stupid fanfic to explain away the obvious. /s and /j were invented specifically to fight against Schrödinger's Dumbfucks.
Except you're the dumbfuck. You said they responded like a bot even though what they said was true and just factual. Whether they meant it as a serious thought or a sarcastic one, it still matches the very simple game of cups in the video without directly acknowledging the punchline of the video. You're so angry about literally NOTHING.
You genuinely, honestly watched that video and believed the reason those two people were in that place filming that activity was because dude was being sweet and playing a memory game with his grandmother?
That's what you think that was for, huh? They were cataloguing a memory game? And that last 1/2 second was... what? What part of a sweet memory game does that last 1/2 second represent? The part where we show grandma that her great memory actually makes her lose? Because if this isn't a funny skit video, that's what the end result would be.
Two things can be true at once. Especially once they easily proved they weren't a bot. They used something they knew about how dementia patients are giving activity while using it with a video that ties with said actions. It's ALOT less of a bot comment if you stop being an ornery asshole for two seconds and think about ANY similarities. Like why does the end matter SO MUCH. Unless it's because you don't want to show how bad your sense of humor can be? Like you are PRESSED about a commentor showing any amount of wit.
No. I'm saying that the video can not be about dementia or a cute thing at all and them making a tangential comment relating to dementia can be true. They LITERALLY left out the punchline of the video while making an anti joke. Yes, it's not actually cute to taunt someone with money. But that's the POINT of it being sarcastic. You're reaching for every straw to be right man. So if you want, if it's that important, you got the internet W. Here's your crown👑 You did it.
It might not be a sweet thing to do, but the premise of the game is about memory and the grandma showcases that she had the ability to do so, regardless of the prank
So you didn't watch the video either. Because I refuse to believe you're too dumb to pick up the blatant, explicit "premise of the game" here (hint: it's not a fucking game; it's a magic trick)

Account is only 5 years old, never too late to start anew! Plus, then you'd have a backup if your new account ever got banned, lol.
Yeah but let's be real, they're 99% bots.
So many subreddits get full of bots that overtake all the postings and it's clearly AI generated shit. Their names are two words, followed by a 4 digit number. They're always new accounts, and will only have one post or one comment.
Damn bud. You’re cooked… at least mine only has 3 numbers! Take that bots
bip bap bop
It was the name of my RuneScape account. Getting 99 prayer without combat puts you at level 15
I never doubted you, just thought it was a funny coincidence. Glad no one jumped on some downvote brigade.

Reddit used to be some sort of a gateway to "everything", now it feels bland.
Every time I obsessively doomscroll to the bottom of every single comment section, I feel almost no anxiety that I'm going to run into the butthole guy. I don't even feel alive anymore. What's the point in clicking random links if there's no risk of getting buttholed?

For some of us, both the inception and the death of the internet in a single lifetime.
Damn. Dead internet theory at its finest
Birth AND death!
Say potato
Yeah the number of bots with Adjective-Noun-Number makes it hard for people like me.
Also I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about the object stuck in a cylinder
lmao, guys if this is not clear, THIS IS A BOT, the level 15 IS A BOT
what a shock after we already witnessed the birth of the internet in our lifetimes.
It died about 10 years ago. The internet has been dead for a while
I was there for isanyoneup
But were you here for the cylinder?
'I was there when it was written'
Bro its been dead. Its been bots for decades
I dunno man, I watched the birth of it, and maybe it's not bad that this goes away so we can spend more time offline doing hobbies, spending time with friends, being outside etc I know i spend too much time on social media and they got us hooked, so maybe not a bad time to step back.
Witnessing the birth and now death of the internet is trippy AF.
Who remembers when Yahoo chats were open to the public? Or AOL? I had a Myspace once lol. Those dial up tones connecting to the Internet? Lol. Yeah I was there when the Internet was alive
Wait. Am I ChatGPT?
Oh my accounts older than a month. Thank god.
But wow, that grandma snatched the money so fast. There’s no getting past her. She has clearly spent her life keeping track of things!
Nice try! You are just an older generation of AI. Microsoft Tay perhaps lol
Also them enabling the feature to hide comment history is exactly for this purpose too.
Make it harder to spot bots. You still can, but they like to make it harder.
The feature is a joke too, you can go into their profile and use the search feature to sort their comments by date. Then they just all show up lmao.
Remove the profit motive from social media? Good luck.
Remember when Diaspora was the next big Facebook killer and it fizzled and died?
No one is going to pay to host content and eat the cost without some ulterior motive.
I guess I am asking if this topic is being discussed anywhere on Reddit.
Yes. More attention needs to be brought to the fact that all the 2 word with a hyphen named accts are almost all fucking bots.
Eh, it's just the default for new names. I created a new account after 15+ years on my last one, and used my Google accoint to create it. And this is what it gave me. I don't think I was given a choice.
I plan to delete this one at the start of the new year too. Anything to mess with algorithms.
i regret not paying more attention to my account name when i was creating it
That's exactly what AI would say....
JK
i dont have any drugs officer im innoc
Maybe mostly true, but that's just the names that are suggested when creating a new account. if you don't care about your user name.
Meh, if you can't even summon the absolutely bare minimum of creativity that's required to come up with anything other than a default username, then you don't deserve the minimum effort that's required to figure if you're a bot or not.

I see. Thank you for explaining.
Nice avatar. Pink eyes look good.
Did they get removed? Don't see any obvious AI comments at the moment.
gosh
I basically ignore anything said by this combination these days, the chances are they are bots is just too high.
Beep boop.
Actually it was just the default when I created mine. So ymmv.
Yes, that is the default username scheme. Bots all have them because the bot-deployers don't care what username their bots use, and it takes too long to make a few hundred custom usernames.
SAME
Well, yeah, I'm not saying every default username is a bot, just too damn many of them are.
It did great! Really happy we bought it for the low price!
dead internet
The two words and number thing sucks because I got my username from my Xbox 360 back in 2012.
Bro I swear the same is true for YouTube. Like, drooling brainless bullshit in every video
Yeah well, I had the same thought as everyone else and apparently people thought I'm a bot too
Probably is filled with bots, but sometimes people just aren't original lol
I have a feeling 80% or so of comments are bots. Either with a political agenda or not, but it's horrifying.
i mean reddit earnings reports arnt going to pump themselves
The account name says nothing because its auto generated by reddit even for normal users if they want. But the acc age and comments are valid points
We aren’t all bots
Yeah, it’s wild how predictable some accounts can be. Makes you do a double-take on every comment.

😂😂😂😂😂
Sharp memory? Guy moves it 3 times...
Someone didn’t finish the video
I finished it. My point is it's a bot re posting
That was an odd way to try to make your point.
If that was your point, your communication skills suck dogshit.
lmfao. Her face at the end. 🤣
Holy shit that was hilarious.
And the cutaway to the credits was timed perfectly.
😂😂😂
I would have thought Grandma would have just taken all 3 at once. I know i would.
https://tenor.com/upGRKY9SBO6.gif
01001100 01101111 01101100
So I'm a bot now? Because of my admittedly archaic-sounding assigned username?
No if you were a bot you’d say “Wow, this grandmother must be very upset about this, the elderly often struggle to acquire new sources of income even with a sharp memory.”
Sorry you had to learn about it this way
13 karma over 5 years is odd, it is usually 5 days accounts with thousands of karma who are bots hahahahaha
If it helps, i know a few people who are into fuckin robots, so at least you can get your cables wet!
…what.

Older accounts that get hacked/stolen/sold are used exactly because people trust them more

Maybe you should do some memory games, yours clearly isn’t the best
You're fucking stupid. This isn't a "game," ChatGPT, it's a funny video/prank.
If YOUR memory was stretched by watching a dude move a cup twice at a snail's pace, maybe YOU do think it's a "game."
They were playing a game and made a video out of it dumbass
So you WERE challenged enough by that sequence to call it a "game."
Understood, chief. Do you want apple juice in a sippy cup?
Bro thinks games need to be difficult
