I was here thinking, when Hakita releases the treachery layer, and the game finally comes out of early access, do you think it would win the GOTY indie? (from 2026/2027, depending on when the treachery release)
Considering the state of the game awards we low-key might lose to a game made by industry veterans retired from gigantic studios that has a budget higher than most countries military forces since the term "indie" is looser than Bonnie Blue. Though im pretty sure ULTRAKILL is going to win an award for OST unless Toby decides to release Deltarune which makes it a 50/50, it would be generational to witness
ah yes, the famous industry veteran story writer hired on reddit, the main composer hired on an online forum and the director who didn't even work as a dev at ubisoft and actually learned through YouTube tutorials lmao
E33 winning goty made it very obvious how many people in the internet are just super salty. Like ultra kill wasn't even in there and they still get offended by it's massive and entirely deserved wins
I don't think people are mad because they won THE goty I think people are salty because E33 also won every other category they're in, I mean come on surely there are other great games in 2025 right?
"industry veterans" "gigantic studios" Cope harder, E33 is as indie as it gets, like it or not, if your game can't beat it in a fucking award show, cope harder.
as much as i love ultrakill, it probably won't win, and it will 100% be because people don't understand the graphics are a stylistic choice and complain about the game being too ugly and that it ruins everything else in the game (actual argument i've had with 3 friends)
I unironically think that ultrakill's graphics are really good just because of how well everything meshes together and how the game can create wacky or dramatic effects like the earthmover explosion or limbo's skyboxes and still feel totally in line with the artstyle.
hey, let people be impressed by small games too. i just appreciate when something looks nice and dont compare to other stuff that exist
its just that ultrakill is this low-poly game often in confined spaces and it sometimes flashes u with these open landscapes. its the contrast that makes it feel good. its just a "woaaw" and not a "oh my god this is the best scene i have seen in the past decade". a slight "woaaw" wont hurt anyone and will only boost ur enjoyment from the game. life is too short to not smile at little things
i know games are hard to make so i just appreciate when i see something that takes some effort. its not like ultrakill has hundreds of people working on it. its just this little game made by a silly guy who really wants to make a game and im glad when i see it work/look well. comparison is the thief of joy
its not like the current year sets a bare minimum for everyone. i would be glad if i was able to make a game that looks like games did 30 years ago. but i cant. because even that is hard. its not like everyone nowadays is born with the skill and knowledge to make elden ring or e33. i know i said "dont compare", but if u do, compare it to ur own work, rather to the best and biggest current titles
my main point is, just be happy and appreciate little things. as i said, life is too short to not smile when u can. and a nice pyramid in a game is enough for me (especially when the main point of the game is the gameplay)
based on deltarunes dev cycle so far, late 2027 would be an incredibly optimistic release window for deltarune, whereas that feels like a pretty late time for ultrakill
We are absolutely losing so some AA studio with a big dick company backing it. I guarantee you the old heads running the show will play it once, realize it's too hard, and drop it like a sack of crap. Many such cases.
Not if a game comes out by that time with direct funding from the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia but not under a publisher therefore qualifying for indie
Depends. If it comes out as a full game at the same time as Deltarune then snail’s chance in Hell. Otherwise, don’t see anything else that could compete with it at the moment.
I doubt it. The problem with ultra kill is that the game is just fun, it isn't particularly impressive from an objective perspective. It's gameplay is just your average bullet hell doom eternal game, the music is fine and while I love the art style it certainly doesn't look "good". I doubt something as subjective as "I had fun" is the most relevant thing when the judges vote on these things
I’d say it definitely has some aspects that are objectively very commendable. The way all the guns synergize is something I have not yet seen any other game get close to, like yeah, there are other shooters with several guns that synergize, but I don’t know anything that does it on the level of Ultrakill. Every single variant of every single weapon has some insane combo that lets you do ridiculous amounts of damage, whether that be a core nuke or spontaneous combustion.
The healing mechanic is also something I haven’t seen anywhere else, of course hitting enemies to heal is not exclusive to Ultrakill, but the way it includes the style meter and hard damage to make it more engaging and very rewarding to pull off big combos is once again not something I’ve seen anywhere else.
The five million different movement mechanics are also something really great about Ultrakill. If you want to cross a long gap, there are so many different ways you could do it. You could do a dash jump, you could do a slam storage slide jump, you could do a slam storage dive, you could rocket ride, you could do an ultraboost, you could do an overpump boost, there are just so many possibilities.
I feel like DOOM ran so Ultrakill could launch itself out of a railcannon
Maybe, depends on what games will be released that year. But, the Game Awards are at the same level of BS as the Oscars, so I stopped worrying about it
Sadly, i don't think Ultrakill has a chance and it will be something more like Silksong with a lot of hype from fans but still lose to a new Clair Obscur
If its the best indie game of the year then i think it could.

Just wait for No Treachery. The fandom is gonna be at it’s lowest point
Perchance
I sit in my room
Probably. Considering how big it’s gotten before the full release I think it could at least be nominated.
Did it win anything at the steam awards?
its not released yet

'The most based dev in history VS The most based dev of today'

Well, Hakita's presence was definitely more recent than Toby's
Is this a serious question?
No

"entirely deserved" didnt deserve indie , art direction and rpg btw
you have such a way with words
well said turkish vergil

Hakiter can make more songs there's like 11+ songs we haven't heard yet
[deleted]
The fact that we are debating this at all is making it 50/50, we can't really decide on either sides
"industry veterans" "gigantic studios" Cope harder, E33 is as indie as it gets, like it or not, if your game can't beat it in a fucking award show, cope harder.

some scenes are genuinely jaw dropping

Is this sarcasm because like, what is there to this scene???
i found it super pretty when i first saw it. i could only post one picture but i have more examples of scenes that made me go like "woaaw"

i don't think this is something for a "woaaw" in 2025 tbh....
hey, let people be impressed by small games too. i just appreciate when something looks nice and dont compare to other stuff that exist

It's better ingame
I also had a friend complaining about the graphics, fucken demanding mf
same
Look at other indie games' style
i sure hope it at least gets 2 nominations
Best music, Best Indie
I think it would be a debut indie as well
Best action too?
Yes

2026/2027? You're optimistic
I could see 2027 since Fraud is releasing soon (tomorrow)
I think 2027, since the treachery layer is going to take time because somehow it's going to have to end the story.
Nah it's just 2 levels and 1 is just a fight with gabriel with decorations I think they'll have a lot of time till 2027
I mean likely the encores will also be added in that update, if not a considerable portion of them
Edit: stupid
Bruh learn how to read it's literally in the game that encores will be released separately
Ah shit, I hadn't touched encores in a while, I forgot
i know someone else sees it i just cant prove it
yes, 100%, we'd genuinley need a silksong level game (in terms of hype and scope) to even rival the final version of ultrakill
just think about how much engaging content we currently have, and how much stuff the game is gonna have as it nears completion
Depends on what games release in its year.
Like if Deltarune fully releases at the same time as Ultrakill im sorry but Ultrakill is prolly cooked.
Yeah, deltarune has a much larger fanbase (what breaks us is that ultrakill is exclusive to PC)
I think Dave said somewhere there'll be a console port
You've tried to play with the controller, it's awful, I remember not having a whiplash button
Whiplash is both of the bumpers. I played it on Steam Deck
Indie is meaningless at the Game Awards so they're probably gonna give it to GTA6 or something
if Expediction 33 won by being an AA, I do not doubt it
Entirely depends on the competition tbh. Seems likely, but if some insane shit like Silksong 2 comes out then maybe not
our only opponent in the indie scene is Deltarune, which if it launches, we are fucked up
based on deltarunes dev cycle so far, late 2027 would be an incredibly optimistic release window for deltarune, whereas that feels like a pretty late time for ultrakill
i doubt theyll release same year
We are absolutely losing so some AA studio with a big dick company backing it. I guarantee you the old heads running the show will play it once, realize it's too hard, and drop it like a sack of crap. Many such cases.
more like indie GAY of the year. because it's GAY
As in HOMOSEXUAL.
It will win best debut indie game tho since i think this is hakitas first game
Not if a game comes out by that time with direct funding from the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia but not under a publisher therefore qualifying for indie
Depends. If it comes out as a full game at the same time as Deltarune then snail’s chance in Hell. Otherwise, don’t see anything else that could compete with it at the moment.
I just have an odd feeling it wouldn't win, even if I think it's (currently) a perfect game. There really is nothing I'd want to change about it.
Only if 9-S is ultrasex
If it means fraud, yes
it will lose to another indie game purely because it's not calm (Pizza Tower vs Cocoon basically)
I wouldn’t know for sure since indie games can be amazing but it’s 100% for sure gonna get nominated
I cannot wait to see it nominated and win
I doubt it. The problem with ultra kill is that the game is just fun, it isn't particularly impressive from an objective perspective. It's gameplay is just your average bullet hell doom eternal game, the music is fine and while I love the art style it certainly doesn't look "good". I feel like DOOM ran so Ultrakill could launch itself out of a railcannon
The music is like one of the best in video game history
Absolutely not. The music is good but it's nothing impressive
What's impressive for you?
ultrakill is too niche to get more than 1 or 2 nominations
Why did you even put the question mark.
Sorry, mewgenics is better.
Maybe, depends on what games will be released that year. But, the Game Awards are at the same level of BS as the Oscars, so I stopped worrying about it
It better

Is fraud tomorrow
Fraud today!!1!!11
Well then were definetely winning
treachery is already out man, im trying to p-rank p-3 on UKMD but im stuck on odysseus prime, does anyone have any tips?
Sadly, i don't think Ultrakill has a chance and it will be something more like Silksong with a lot of hype from fans but still lose to a new Clair Obscur
Should have
The game isn't done yet
And the game awards are already over. Nobody is referring to this year.
Ah, mb
