I am looking to add a second WAN connection to my SE using port 10 which is SFP+. I am looking to use spectrum as a backup, and my modem has a Gbit ethernet port. I’ve seen mixed reviews about which SFP adapter to use or not use. Can anyone recommend something that will work and hopefully not run too hot? Many Thanks!
Hello! Thanks for posting on r/Ubiquiti!

This one from FS.com is the best one I've tried.
Expensive, but very low power consumption (<1.8w) and has worked at 10GbE over two runs of about 20m of Cat 5e in my condo without issue.
Been running a couple of these and they happily supply 10G to a desktop and my NAS for about a year now. I've not noticed the temperature being an issue.
EDIT: forgot to mention, you can use any of the ethernet ports as a WAN port, but they all share a 1 gig backplane IIRC.
True, and this isn’t typically a problem, unless you are using WAN load balancing. If used as a failover, typically cellular, Starlink or something else, the shared back lane is less of a concern, especially if nothing else is using the built-in switch.
They will ALL run HOT!
No, the newer 80/100m ones don't run nearly as hot as the older 30m ones. The Ubiquiti Mgig one has one of the newer chips that runs much cooler.
I'm using the Wiitek I think, but most should work about the same I think...
Get the ubiquiti one?
They do a 1G and a mixed 1 / 2.5 / 5 / 10G one

the Amazon TP-Link and 10GBE ones work great, but unifi 10gb one is the best.
Do you have any open RJ port on the UDMSE? You can change any of the ports to WAN2
I see where I can change port 10 to LAN but I don’t see how to change any of them to WAN. In fact, I changed port 10 to LAN and I don’t see how to change it back to WAN!
For my UDMSE its Network > Settings > Internet > Gateway Ports > WAN Assignments
Pretty slick. Thanks!
Why would you not use a Ubiquiti one?
No particular reason. Just looking at my options. I think I will order one from Ubiquity when I order my next batch of Unifi goodies.
Just buy the first party one from Ubiquiti. It works perfectly in my experience and doesn’t run quite as hot as lot of others do.
