Given that the newly named UVA President worked at McKinsey and also as a senior advisor at the Carlyle Group, where Glenn Youngkin was CEO, and that Beardsley is still Chairing of the Search Committee for the UVA Provost position, who is the most likely pick (or profile)? There is another BOV Special Meeting schedule for January 6th--is this to name the Provost?

  • Let's see if the new President actually moves into Carr's Hill on the 1st before rearranging all the deck chairs.

I don't think Beardsley would've accepted the job if he thought Spanberger was going to fire him. Prez of Darden is a pretty cushy job and not worth leaving on a limb.

How easily can Beardsley just go back to the Darden chair that isn't even cold yet.

TBD but if Spanberger kicks him out of Carr's Hill why would she want him back at Darden?

Perhaps a deal has already been made. It would make sense

I think you're right. Both sides would be risking a lot of political capital if that wasn't the case.

So, she would have zero to do with determining whether or not he goes back to his Darden job. Zero. This is bizarre scare-mongering. (She also has no power to "kick him out" of the president job.) She does, however, have the power to remove BOV members and appoint new ones, and that newly constituted board can pull back the job offer.

This is the most accurate assessment. It’s likely she fires the BOV, but unlikely they would remove Scott. He is likely going to be president for 1-2 years and then step down. His reappointment to Darden was only for a few years, and he was always planning to leave after that. Beardsley has ambitions to be president of a prestigious university. This was his best shot to accomplish that and more.

He did an objectively pretty good job at Darden. Pretty well liked in those circles

  • Has Soanberger commented on this at all since it was announced?

  • My friend Bill

  • Beardsley might appoint someone from the private sector. A CLO or private sector R&D leader are the most likely.

  • Separate search.

  • Notable that Beardsley didn’t come to the basketball game yesterday. Wouldn’t someone who wants to introduce himself to the larger community get introduced at halftime? But given these shady circumstances, he probably figured he was going to be booed off the court.

Students are all at home plus he doesn't officially take the job until jan 1
