Hi everyone
I want to share this video and ask if you would help us get our TikTok account started. If you have a moment I’d really appreciate if you would follow us @emersonuuchurchhouston on TikTok thanks 😊
This is all aesthetic. Many UU churches drape themselves in a rainbow flag while participating in straight coded moralism not functionally different from that of the most conservative Protestant communities. I don’t think you should focus on the rainbows you can purchase and rest on those laurels. You should instead focus on what you actually do.
I don’t know the Emerson UUs, but will say as a queer person, aestheticism lands as very much a red flag. I would urge you instead to think about the more material work you might be engaged in (for example: do you feed people, do you protest workplaces engaged in discrimination and firing of queer people, do you provide material assistance for gender affirming care, do you raise money to support the work of UNWRA or otherwise take brave stands against encroaching Zionism in your congregation?). If so, great, you should feature that instead. If not, you need to urgently work on it as a community.

What you do matters. What you say does not.
