Are there any "outside of the box" fundraisers that have worked well for your congregation?

  • Something interesting I’ve seen is an “auction” and the prize is gettin to pick a hymn that can’t be used the rest of the year. It’s a unique take and I know we all have that one hymn we are beyond tired of.

    Hahaha that's pretty fun

PLEASE say what hymn the winner chose!

If I remember correctly it was “ a meditaiton on breathing”. They used to use it every Sunday for the centering and meditation hymn but when the new church year started they changed it up.

  • I was once told that as much as possible your fundraisers should try to raise money from outside the congregation and my experience has borne that out. Even wonderful fundraising ideas aren't going to work if the congregation is tapped out or feels like "the church is constantly asking for money". This also has the advantage of getting visitors in the door in a way that feels non-threatening. You do have to make sure to advertise. A few things I have seen work:

A used book sale, provided that you reach out to used book dealers in your area.

an art show or art fair

a musical performance. Even a hootenanay or sing-a-long could work for this, it doesn't have to be a big-name professional production

Thanks! That's a very important point.

We just had a successful book sale! We had a ton of donations (for a small to mid-size city anyway.
