Latest Version of Akash Missile :  Akash NG

1. DRDO has successfully completed the User-Evaluation trial of Akash-NG (Next generation). 
2. The Missile system will now be inducted into the IAF. 
3. Akash is a short to medium range surface to air missile. 
4. It is primarily designed to provide air defence cover to vulnerable areas and critical installations. 
5. Akash can simultaneously engage multiple targets in group mode or in autonomous mode. 
6. Akash NG will have a range of 70 Km and is more effective against low electromagnetic signature threats. It also has a smaller ground system footprint. 
7. It also has built-in Electronic Counter-countermeasures (ECCM)
8. Akash missiles are being operated by both IAF and Indian Army. 
9. It has 96% indigeneous components.
