Secondary PM 2.5 ( Ammonium Sulfate )
- Sources of Ammonium Sulfate - Coal Plants, Industries, Agriculture (Fertiliser Use), Livestock Waste.
- It is a chemically formed Pollutant - Secondary Pollutant.
- Ammonium Sulfate is a secondary inorganic aerosol formed through the oxidation of Sulphur Dioxide (SO2) into Sulfate and its further reaction with the ammonia emissions from Agriculture and other sources.
- The formation of ammonium sulfate is enhanced under humid conditions.
- Secondary Particulate matter is a core driver of PM2.5 Pollution in India
- Note - India is the biggest emitter of SO2 Globally and ranks second only to China.
