Hi there, I have no existing insurance as I don't own a home or a car, not a member of a trade union, not have any bank accounts that have this as an addon
Might anyone be able to recommend insurance for personal legal expenses? The kinds of things I would have found need for one are related to landlords, utilities, NHS and also the DWP.

You say you don't "own" a home, but do you rent one?
If you do, it is a good idea to have contents insurance with which you can add legal cover.
Look up BTE insurance - that’s what it is. I don’t know if any of the insurers in this space do sell direct as a standalone or whether you can only get it bundled with another type of policy as an add on.
