The angle of movement, IMO, looks to be WAY too obtuse for these to be spotlights (they travel from what is seemingly behind the viewers, then far into the horizon). Also shouldn’t one should be able to see the beam of light projecting from below the clouds (possibly seeing the source on the valley floor) if they were indeed spotlights? Any guesses?

[What is Spotlight?](https://developers.reddit.com/apps/spotlight-app)
Saw this same thing last night in Fullerton, CA.
kinda crazy that these are being spotted all over
Saw it in Atlanta
Saw the same thing in Augusta, GA
Saw it right here.
Saw it at your moms house
Bro, stop peeking
Saw it in Lexington
Seen this in England 🏴
Exactly the same as these.
Where in England did you see this?
Which Lexington?
Both.
Did you guys see these near powerlines as well? I am wondering if the phenomenon is related to power lines and static electricity. For the record I have seen some weird shit too just trying to figure it out
This is wild. I saw them in Chattanooga, TN. I've been seeing them at night and thought they were spotlights but it was in a remote area away from the city, in the mountains
Really? What area of Chatt, when did you see them and what direction were they going? I live about an hour west of Chatt in Monteagle and would be looking for them.
Outskirts of Downtown/base of single mountain/red bank looking north towards Soddy Daisy. Ive seen it at least 3-4 times. Grey cloud coverage every time and during the week like a Tuesday or a Wednesday at night.
Saw it in Hawaii.
So crazy that not any news station has an article about it
MIB won’t allow that
Not true, in fact, please look into this light. <Flash>
https://youtu.be/oeeqFffbjSU 10:45 in this video. Global phenomenon.
nice compilation video for people who say there are no clear videos of ufos.
Saw in Surrey, BC Canada
And over London NYE 2024
https://metro.co.uk/video/mysterious-lights-seen-london-3342363/
Saw it in Roseville. Just thought it was spotlights.
And people here are suggesting we can see it from midtown....
If you saw it live, you know 100% it wasn't holiday related or some average light show.
Damn I’m off 7 mile I haven’t seen shit
I questioned the spotlight argument because
1) in my entire life. I’ve never seen Spotlights like that. I saw this last night in the Bay Area over by Crystal Springs Reservoir during the powerful rain storm… crystal Springs is a rural coastal headland area.. no spotlights that I would imagine people shining over there for any reason? And in the pouring torrential rain?
2) they move all the way from one edge of the sky to the other without distortion of their shape (as a spotlight would the further away it gets from its source) …
3) too many people are reporting this exact phenomenon from all over in random places (both over cities and less populated areas where there aren’t any “spotlights” active)
4) it makes me wonder if the light is coming from above or shining from below upwards
5) has anyone had a hard confirmation about what type of “spotlight” this is or what event was operating them.?
6) it’s not specific because again this has been reported on many different dates in many different places
Earthquake inbound
I have heard of this happening before earthquakes, I thought it looks more lightening like though
I live in Brea and didn’t see anything because Brea is boring (and I was inside).
Merry Christmas, neighbor!
It was rainy and cloudy in south county all day!!!
Diamond Bar here. Way more boring than Brea.
No way I was in Fullerton I was inside 😭

I don’t know what those lights are, but they definitely do not look like lights from the show you mentioned.
Can someone cut together this video with OP’s so we can all have a laugh? 😂😂
They look nothing like the spotlights you linked from the Christmas events. Don’t look like any spotlights period. They’re literally flying through the sky horizontally and across the sky.
Exactly. I can’t stand it when people hand wave things away with confidence when it’s blatantly/obviously not what they’re suggesting.
I’m also not saying they’re space ships. They’re just not fucking normal ass spotlights.
I really want it to be spotlights, but they sure don't look like spotlights.
It's "swamp gas" and "weather balloons" all over again.
Exactly -_-
I saw the exact same thing at the same time last night
I live in the UK
I know you want them to be spotlights but OP’s video is pretty fucking obviously not spotlights.
There’s no way you think those are spotlights
Disinfo...
We have confirmed sightings in Carmichael and Roseville and you are suggesting that was viewable from midtown?
Not happening.
I guess people saw this in Phoenix about the same time.
Just chiming in because my husband and I saw exactly this while walking the dog tonight around 9pm in San Diego CA. We both saw it and thought wtf is that! It was greenish and moving extremely fast and making darting motions where they turned on a dime. Crazy that these have been spotted all over tonight
I saw the same thing in Atlanta!!! Green too thank you for pointing that out, they must be ready to come out of the space closet
Saw it in Tijuana
Saw it on the drive back home from Tijuana wtf this is crazy
Yeah, but every time something like this is seen im the sky: omg those are spotlights!
Like, fuck dude, how clear an angle of vision and keystoning fix does it have to let you do that from the ground. AND AT WHAT SPEED!
So Phoenix, San Diego, Tijuana... That's one hell of a big spot light.
What time?
I saw it in Virginia but I was also tripping so who knows.
Maybe both homie lol
Also saw one in lakewood California but months ago.
I saw it months ago too but in Canada ! East coast
Holy shit. I posted about this in Phoenix. This is wild.
Exactly the same thing happened last year in london: https://metro.co.uk/2024/12/31/londoners-baffled-mysterious-flashing-lights-middle-night-22274787/
Interesting it happened in December and too and just a week later
Santa Claus?
He has to fly super fast to get all around the world in one night
Actually for Santa the time did not pass like for the rest of us. In fact he's been kind of "trapped" into it. In Santa Clause perception of time the night never ends until EVERY present is delivered. Furthermore, it's more like some kind of a neverending loop which can only be broken if EVERY Package EVER is delivered OR there aren't good children left who could receive them.
Sounds like the plot of a riveting holiday movie
Sounds like a damn horror story
Sounds like a nightmare
This is nuts. I can’t even picture what this might be.
I saw these in Carmichael CA on the night of the 23rd.
They make no sound, move fast, and Illuminate the clouds brighter than the video here leads on.
I live close, please come back to this comment and reply if you see it again. I desperately want to see this phenomenon for myself.
Saw these last night a bit west of Sacramento thought I was seeing things but I stopped and watched them streak back and forth a few times
u/wackedoncrack was saying they saw these over Carmichael on the 23rd.
Saw this exact thing with my own eyes except it came back after doing 180 degree turns. The orb of light was lit inside of the clouds not on the surface
What if in the near future, these crafts and lights start appearing in bulk? Reports of ufos in major cities start… and they don’t stop. It starts with a slow trickle, a major ufo, stationary above a city. Then, after a day of a stationary ufo, a report. Another metropolitan area, another ufo, this time IN the city, floating through. Not making any attempts to be hidden, but evasive and never able to be caught. Then more. People around the world don’t believe it… until it happens to them and their city. The slow trickle of uaps turning into a steady stream… until at some point, this alien technology is just in our daily lives. We stay waiting for them to explain themselves, but they never do.
Sounds like Childhood’s End!
That’s probably where I got it from! Haven’t read it, but I know I didn’t write anything new concept wise lol. But now I gotta read that book! Is it good?
It's my favorite Arthur C Clarke book. It's a quick read, too. Check it out, it's fascinating.
Just need a washed up fighter pilot in a crop duster
Nifty
"Don't look up", trickle version.
Saw this in NC last year, people tried to say it was light show, but you described exactly what I saw. No way that's a light show.
I see the same thing it was going back and forth inside the clouds
Wow
Saw this exact thing in midtown Manhattan, from waaaay behind my building in the east side (like from Hoboken) all the way deep into queens. Not a chance they were spotlights..... From below at least.... Definitely came from above the clouds. Could it have been spotlights up there? Sure, but you'd need some huge powerful spotlights.... They also didn't change shape or size and were the same color as these.
My wife saw this too over in Roseville around 530pm.
It was still going at 10pm
That first light reversed a bit..
Ikr? What if we're frozen in their frame of reference and a little grey was like shit I forgot my sunglasses, gotta go back and grab em
Watch the people in vehicle bottom of frame.
They seem to skip back too, might be editing of the video.
Match up the name/checkmark at the bottom of the video with the actual video for a reference point. It’s not just a reversed video, the camera is in a different spot when the thing reverses
I've seen similar streaks of fast light many times but always above some sorta big cityscape so always assumed it was something like venue lights shining from the tops of tall buildings into the sky (like batman summoning lights) and just swiveling really fast.. but this footage is super fucking clear. And appears to go all the way over horizon. That's super neat. Makes me think...
My question is what dirextion? North, south, ect?
It was Santa, duh
No is it was Santa's seal team E.LF.S
Elves with attitudes
Oh yo true
Exactly what I came to say! Lol merry Christmas to all humans and nhi!
if you believe in Santa, yes for sure is was Santa
but I don't believe in Santa, I think what I saw were some UFO ships.
I hope this is said ironically.
It's coming..
if you keep saying it eventually maaaaaybe ur right. but its being said for thousands of years
I live in Sac and I've seen a ton of UFOs. A black triangle when I was like 9 or 10 with my family. My wife and I saw a ton of UFOs flying out of our atmosphere during COVID, I've seen 1 flying fast above the causeway driving home late and another bunch of them by my lonesome one night.
Incredible footage, good job.
At first I thought it was one of those laser Christmas light projector thingies, like maybe some kids have it pointed at the sky instead of a house like those ones that make all those stars and effects and animations.
But then after hearing how many different people have seen them all over California, Arizona, etc., now I am not so sure 😬😳
I saw this 4 days ago outside Seattle (Bothell); absolutely sure they were an xmas light show or something like it. The widespread reporting only confirms that for me. They looked higher than they were, because the apparent direction changed as i drove north along 405, so they couldn't have been as far away as they appeared.
People say spotlights but the light never seems connected to a spot light, they seem like individual balls of light moving very quick.
For a spot light to behave like that it would have to
A: be mounted really damn high to cover that much ground that fast
B: be the fastest moving spotlight ever known.
........and the clouds would have to be at more or less the same level across the sky.
So yeah, that's not spotlights 🫠
Bs. It doesnt need to be mounted high. Why should it? You ever used a flashlight and moved it? The beam moves fast also. I really dont know what you are talking about. Regards, a Light technican at Festivals.
Hey mate
A spotlight would smear against haze or clouds. But this stays compact. This favors something self-luminous or reflecting sunlight, not a projected beam.
A spotlight sweeping the sky would trace an arc (because it’s pivoting from a fixed point on the ground), but straight-line motion at constant speed strongly argues against a spotlight.
A spotlight powerful enough to reach that apparent “distance” would almost certainly light something else. There’s: No visible beam No illuminated clouds No halo expanding ahead of the light
4.For a spotlight to appear: That small, that sharp, moving that fast, in a straight line …it would need to be: 1. In perfectly clear air 2. Extremely far away (up) 3. Mounted on a system rotating at an exact constant angular velocity 4. With zero beam divergence (which doesn’t exist in real optics)
In practice, that combination just doesn’t happen.
So I disagree, this is not a spotlight. The motion, geometry, sharpness, and speed are all wrong. The video is fully consistent with a low-Earth-orbit satellite (if it went super fast, lol) and inconsistent with a projected light source. But it could be fake, because who the f knows these days.
All your points are nonsense. lol. It would need to make at arc at all.
I dont think enough people understand how light projection works and how movement speed increases the further away it is from its source.
A spotlight aimed far from it's source, will seem to move VERY fast.
And yes, there's a level layer of clouds in the sky, which you can clearly see in the video.
True — projected spots can look very fast. But speed isn’t the discriminator. Rotating beams still show arcs, diffusion, or brightness changes on clouds. This stays point-like, straight, and constant-speed with no beam or cloud interaction, which fits a distant moving object better than a spotlight.
These things have absolutely straight trajectories.
A beam of a spotlight would have a curved trajectory as the light source pivoted.
So, not spotlights.
Initially I did too, but where it happens in the sky the spotlights would have to be miles apart. Spotlights kinda get elongated the farther away from its point, and all these lights are elongated but not from a single point and there was one part where the light basically was end to end on the screen and I’ve never seen it be that elongated. Think that came out right? Happy holidays!
Edit: I was right and wrong, these are special spotlights for light shows, not the spotlights we grew up with!
lol those are definitely not spotlights... when will we realize we're not alone. accept it already. its here. always has been.
The one from a few days ago was 100% spotlights
This one at a first glance is spotlights. But if you look closer they aren’t, and the fact that people are saying they saw the same exact things here at the same exact times in DIFFERENT cities in the region makes you really wonder
Anyone notice how that first one on the left comes back quick.
I cant really understand how it is spotlights. At least not normal ones. Maybe if it were some special machine created to produce this effect I could see it.
These have been seen everywhere lately. They are crazy AF and some even do intricate patterns.
I know one thing, these aint no disco laser flood lights. They go al the way to the horison.
This ain’t no party, ain’t no disco, ain’t no fooling’ around!
This ain't no nightclub or CBGB's , I ain't got time for that now !
Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit? Heard about Pittsburgh, PA?
I saw something in Denver around 12am like this
These move way too fast and cover far too much ground to be a spotlight. The size would also change from smaller to bigger as it got further away from the source unless it was a super focused light source like a laser.
Yea it would need a super super bright and focused spotlight, couple of them.
I appreciate him speculating about it being lightning but I’ve never heard about or seen lightning doing anything like this.
It's most likely satellites taking ground measurements using lasers. This video shows what it looks like on a clear day. It probably looks different here because the clouds are scattering the light and making the thin beams much more diffuse. Perhaps Starlink (or something similar) have lasers equipped to collect this kind of data as a secondary way to make money.
Thank you! It's insane how far I had to scroll to get the correct answer.
Is it far off to say that these could also be reflections off satellites? Like reflecting the sun off of your phone screen
This is probably what they saw in 1561 over Nuremberg.
That happened in the morning and it looked like a battle of different sizes and shapes in the air. I think you're absolutely right, but I think Nuremberg 1561 was more 'spectacular'. This is only my opinion and I agree with your assessment.
https://youtu.be/oeeqFffbjSU 10:45 in the video for more examples of these seen around the world.
Also shows one of the lights reversing briefly as in this video. Very interesting thanks for sharing.
I think it's pretty cool that the aliens are like, "Yo, wanna do some dope shit over earth? It's Christmas eve so we can get away with a lot."
Very funny, I saw this while at work tonight north of Sacramento but it wasn't a bunch of them and it wasn't this frequent. It was only one every minute and a half or so. My first thought was a spotlight but it didn't quite look right for that.
That's so funny
Yes, I know.
They....are.....here.
Guys…10pm Christmas Eve. It’s clearly Santa. Let’s all calm down
It's a strange phenomenon that many people have seen.
It's a little scary.
Can spotlight experts "shine a light" on why these streaks should or should not be seen as such? Personally, I believe that the caption is accurate. If not spotlights, what are they?
Someone here keeps saying it’s from “The Festival of Lights” in Sacramento, but a video of that show from 2023 ( https://youtube.com/shorts/IHchLRUqRm4?si=2fJbZFWj25r1OQli, someone posted it as a comment above) doesn’t show anything remotely similar to OPs video. There is nothing in the video of the event that could produce the effect shown.
People are commenting they witnessed nearly identical events in Phoenix, San Diego, Tijuana, Atlanta etc. I think there’s a clip from Phoenix.
Also, look at the directions the lights appear from. A cluster of them are appearing from the right and moving at a different angle toward the same “destination” spot in the sky.
That would mean multiple specialized, complicated (and probably very expensive) light rigs in multiple locations coordinated to produce this. And in/around multiple cities simultaneously.
Why would someone do this? I’m trying to imagine how much money and effort it would take to pull this off. It seems beyond the means and wallets of the “average” prankster.
I suppose it’s technically possible but it honestly seems unlikely.
Saw these on I-80, I don't think that they aren't spotlights but Idk, me and someone else saw the same thing and thought it was strange.
These are repeatedly claimed to be spotlights but as you can see spotlights wouldn't travel that far and being that bright you would more than likely be able to see the beam also. If anyone wants I can post a link to a large collection of this type of UAP that another commenter has compiled along with videos of actual spotlights in the clouds to compare to.
I also noticed that if these were spotlights the mountains in the background would cut off the spotlight source moving to the far horizon, this is not the case and the lights follow the curvature of the earth over the horizon. These lights do not appear Earth based at all. They also changed intensity when moving through thicker cloud decks.
I caught this and recorded it on a SIONYX aurora in Kingsville, MD the 23rd
https://x.com/sysbadm1n/status/2003862402778230978?s=46&t=XrWd_zci8GX7Gcw9cSHi4A
Santa was my immediate thought 😂 but jokes aside good catch 👍
Wtf we saw these at Disneyland around 9pm last night. I thought they were part of the castle illumination but they only happened once
If you’re being serious, that is wild.
But what is that?
I live in SoCal and missed this… amazing footage.
-they will join us at the Worldcup26!
I saw this in Atlanta last night no joke
Santa Claus….obviously
As far as seeing the spotlight beam goes, it totally depends on the atmosphere at the time. Having humidity higher up with none below could totally make the beam invisible. Also, the pattern they’re flying in with the one beam being lit for a second as it swings back for another pass makes me think it’s spotlights at an event. They do look like they’re going oddly far out toward the horizon though for sure.
But.. it’s Christmas Eve. My moneys on spotlights at a party. And a smaller chunk of my money is on somebody pulling a: “look it’s santa!!!” routine on the kiddos.
I consider myself a decidedly skeptical individual who Wants to Believe™ 🛸 but I gotta be honest… those don’t look like spotlights to me. Not only are there reports of sightings of this event far too far away, but the extreme distance they travel looks to be an angle that would be physically impossible for a spotlight to project. I’m not saying it’s aliens, and I’m open to being wrong about it not being spot lights, but this one is not easily hand waved away in my opinion.
I agree re: angle. In order to have that far of uninterrupted/unblocked range the spotlights would either have to be in the air or in a spot where they have a 360 view of the horizon with no trees, hills, buildings etc in the way.
If it is a spotlight it’s set up at one of the highest locations in the area or the spotlight is physically off the ground and supported above the ground by a platform or something.
these aren’t no fckn spotlights. this sub is ruined.
Something tells me half of you are disinformative bots, or you’ve never seen a spotlight in real life before, because they don’t look like that cheif
I lived in Las Vegas. King of bright lights, spotlights, helicopters, AND UFOS. Those are NOT spotlights. Spotlights can stretch very far and go long distances, but they don’t travel that fast in one direction. I dont know any spotlights pattern that just has orbs flying to the horizons and clearly escaping it either. Im also unaware of spotlights that go across states and that are corroborated by dozens of people. Something tells me you are a disinformation bot or you just eat crayons
Gaslighters
Searchlight/spotlight UFO’s! Man they are getting wild! Saw these years ago- now I love that everyone else gets to too! What a sight. Idk if this has a place here but I want to say it does- cold plasma cleansing. 🙏
It’s obviously Santa and his reindeer
Those ain't no fricken spotlights. 😆
https://preview.redd.it/zc985ydjqf9g1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d2dbe5d998edc7fbf9b4a6a18d6c2581fc0afbe
It’s from the ground you can see the spotlight in this frame.
Omg thank you, yeah you can actually see it. Case closed then

The invasion begins!
Also is that a toad jumping into frame?
Toyotathon
I saw them in Sierra Vista Az
It’s a new type of advertising light. See how it goes out all the same time in a line on the horizon. It’s lights folks.
We had this happening all over the UK last year, I saw them a fair number of times, mostly in Wales. People on here mostly dismissed them as spotlights from an outdoor music event. But then if that were the case, you'd expect to see similar lights this year: so far nothing remotely similar.
Those are literally lights running across the clouds from the ground
Blue Beam(s)...Literally.
Christmas Eve?
Well, that's Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen Comet, etc.
Why is it in this day and age when there are videos like this they ALWAYS look like they're filmed on an 8mm video camera?!
Eye of Aldani?
I love that the pinned comment about it being a spotlight is posted by u/spotlight-app and that the system for pinning these kind of posts is also called spotlight.
Thats just space debris really close to the stratosphere explains the speed and colour, the clouds are just augmenting the shape and colour like a mirror!
I thought this was BS until I saw one of these junts flying over my house last night
I wonder if its one of those laser topographical satellites doing a sweep as it passes https://youtu.be/idKZTWrtgl0?si=IWZ4vFrKK_CKjgnI
Ya the more I look at the video you can see how its sweeping, it even went back and forth on one of the sweeps.
Anyone ask Mulder?
They seem very fast for spotlights, but yeh, who knows.
Light doesn’t move that way it’s something moving with light on it
If the source of the spotlight is far away from the camera the spot on the cloud would be larger and faster the closer the spot is to the camera. Like pointing a laser at the floor but you're the cat and the laser is far off in the distance.
It's either Christmas lights or aliens.
The second light moves back and forth.
They are spotlights.
no, they are not. Spotlights on the ground could not maintain intensity/form/distance of these lights. They come from waaaay behind and you can still see them clearly into the far distance over the mountains. It's not spotlights on the ground.
Insane how many commenters saying they also saw this. did no one else think to get video?
If they did go this fast and brief then most people would not have time to take a video, probably
I saw the same lights in Anaheim, California. Didn’t take a video because I thought it was also lights from some show or maybe an airplane in the sky.
Saw one in Atlanta, wondered WTF
Someone posted a video from Maryland same night https://x.com/sysbadm1n/status/2003862402778230978
