Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting. - Psalm 139:23-24
Me too! It's more or less what I want to pray over that moment. For example, when I travel I kinda pray over the airport and travelers and planes etc. to help calm myself down.
Luther's morning and evening prayers from the small catechism.
Morning Prayer
In the morning when you get up, make the sign of the holy cross and say:
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Then, kneeling or standing, repeat the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. If you choose, you may also say this little prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
Then go joyfully to your work, singing a hymn, like that of the Ten Commandments, or whatever your devotion may suggest.
Evening Prayer
In the evening when you go to bed, make the sign of the holy cross and say:
In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Then kneeling or standing, repeat the Creed and the Lord’s Prayer. If you choose, you may also say this little prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have graciously kept me this day; and I pray that You would forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
Sounds similar to our divine office. Every night after evening prayer and compline:
Visit this house we pray, O Lord, and drive far from it all snares of the enemy. May your holy Angels dwell here and keep us in peace, and may your blessing rest upon us always. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
May the all powerful and merciful Lord grant us a restful night and a peaceful death. Amen
I can't say for sure but I think it does come from the liturgy of the hours Luther would have prayed while he was a monk. We do have matins, vespers and compline in our books.
"I pray your blessing as I go out today. Make me a fruitful vine, and help me be a servant to others."
"Bind my mind to your word, your wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Grant me a heart after your own."
"Bless our leaders. Grant them wisdom and protection. May their hearts be turned toward you. And help us to make their lives easier. Bless Israel. May they return to the God of their forefathers. Jesus, please come soon."
For me when I pray out loud talking to my Father, I just talk to Him..in a way to where it's more like a conversation I'm holding with Him and I just pour my heart out...especially when repenting. 🕊🥹
I also am fond of The Lord's Prayer, as well.
I would advise to aproach God as a Person with capital P. So you speak like He is sitting in front of you, but also on a big throne. This makes it personal and you remember He is the Boss.
Also, to help me pray freely, i use Psalms to inspire me
Try to taste the heart of the Psalm, it is not about the right words but about the right heart!
He is after your heart, so if you are not praying with your heart i dont see the point much. Use your heart in prayer bro and bless you so much!
I pray the morning, evening and night Liturgy of the Hours and the rosary… and minor little prayers throughout the day. (ie before eating, a Hail Mary when an ambulance drives by… etc)
I always pray to say thank you especially when things are bad, in my worst moments I find the smallest things to be grateful for and give thanks to God for it such as your girlfriend cheated but you still have food and a roof. You're in jail but you're not sick. Even things like being born with all my limbs and not being mentally impaired I use prayer as a way to give glory to God.
Thank you Lord, for the challenges you’ve presented me. And thank you for the strength to overcome them. You are ever faithful, and I know I’ll never truly deserve it.
The armor of God prayer. Which is actual real spiritual armor that you put on your body if you have faith that it’s there.. found in Ephesians 6:13-19
Armor of God Prayer
“Lord, I come to you today in the name of Jesus, and I put on the full armor of God. I put on my helmet of salvation which will protect my thoughts, I apply the breast plate of righteousness that will protect my heart. I apply the belt of
truth, That I may walk in the truth. And I put on the shoes of peace that I may bring peace. I gladly pick up my shield of
faith that will repel any darts or arrows of the evil one. And I apply the sword of the spirit, which is sharper than any
two-edged sword. I put on the full armor of God that I may stay away from the wickedness of this world and the evil one
in Jesus ‘s name. Amen”
The Shema is a good one to remind yourself of the first and most important commandment:
Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel! Yahweh our God is one! 5 You shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might."
However, I believe God prefers the words from our hearts over rote prayers.
The Jesus Prayer is a nice one "Lord Jesus Christ Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner".
IT'S PHENOMENAL
Before someone pushes back and claims, "that's not Scriptural!" here's proof that it is—
Lord Jesus Christ, son of God
Rom 1:4
Have mercy on me
Psa 40:11; Psa 51:1 ;Psa 123:3 ;Heb 4:16 ;Luke 18:13
A sinner
1 Tim 1:15; James 4:8
It’s also straight out of Luke 18:13!
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting. - Psalm 139:23-24
I wing it every time.
Me too! It's more or less what I want to pray over that moment. For example, when I travel I kinda pray over the airport and travelers and planes etc. to help calm myself down.

Then go to sleep at once and in good cheer.

I pray it with my kid every night :)

Oh then definetly they have a common origin. beautiful, God bless you
I always make it personal. I tend to stay away from memorized prayers because over time they can become disingenuous. At least for me.
Yeah I always do a mixture of both memorised and personal prayers.
That's my preference too. I don't want a prayer to turn into empty words
Jesus tells us to recite the Lord’s prayer in Matthew. I understand what you’re saying though, you should have a balance.
Amen me too.nothing like just talking it out with my best friend.
"I pray your blessing as I go out today. Make me a fruitful vine, and help me be a servant to others."
"Bind my mind to your word, your wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Grant me a heart after your own."

Why is Isnotreal in your prayers did they hijack that too
Huh what?
Have you ever prayed for any of the palestinians? Genuine question?
I pray for everyone. And if I am not mistaken, the Palestinians are decedents of Abraham as well, just on Ishmael's side.
Oh, is "Isnotreal" some derogatory take on Israel?
The Lord gives & the Lord takes away. Blessed be the Name of the Lord!
Psalm 16, Psalm 32, Psalm 51 - and so many others!

I pray the morning, evening and night Liturgy of the Hours and the rosary… and minor little prayers throughout the day. (ie before eating, a Hail Mary when an ambulance drives by… etc)
In this season of my life, Psalm 13. Difficult times, and I desperately need the reminders in v. 5-6.
The Shema.

Not a single prayer per se, but I love to pray the Rosary.
I just pray God, let me make it to the end of the day
I kinda like go down this long-winded list of things I’m thankful for, need help with, and then I end up falling asleep at some point.
Thank you Lord, for the challenges you’ve presented me. And thank you for the strength to overcome them. You are ever faithful, and I know I’ll never truly deserve it.

The Jesus Prayer has carried me through a lot: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.” It’s grounding.
