Dont let go of mama Sun's hand.

Letting go is how we get rogue planets.

she's taking us in a big circle roughly like this

Why a circle? Does that mean she's orbiting something even bigger?

yep! the sun sorta (it's complicated and last I checked we aren't super sure on the details) orbits a supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy called Sagittarius A*, which is the same black hole shown in this photograph

Sagittarius A* is also moving but last I checked we're not really sure where or if it's orbitting something

I always thought the stars orbit Sagittarius A* the same way the Moon orbits the Earth and the Earth orbits the Sun, but apparently it’s not. Sag A* is not that massive, and the galaxy spins around the centre like a cup of coffee stirred with a spoon, because of how it formed.

Thank you for teaching me something today!

she's just dragging us along like a good mama does

While providing us with warmth and light along the way.

I'm sorry but I'm with the panicked crowd. Never go to a secondary location! where is she taking us, we have the right to know!

    parent

In a larger sense, she's not taking us anywhere anymore than you take your hand anywhere. We're all from the same clump of stardust, our gravity affecting each other as we move in sync. Our star system is little different than the very beginnings of a microscopic organism, with humanities potential ascension to space travel creating a living Sol

We're going around in a circle, we'll be back to the same position (relative to the galactic core at least) in around 250 million years.

The one to be concerned about is Sagittarius A*, it's got us on a collision course with the Andromeda Galaxy. ETA is about 4.5 billion years.

I'm now panicked for an entirely different reason. Pour one out for any lifeforms still here in 4.5 billion years.

Don't worry, mama sun is bringing us to the center of the galactic disk. Super massive objects there will destabilize the orbit of asteroids and cause a mass extinction event, potentially similar to what happened to the dinosaurs 60 million years ago 🤗

All I hear is "Mom! Mom! Mom! Mommy! Mom! Mama! Mom!"

Ah I see now. The moon is my wife and the sun is my mother. Perfect!

y’all. we are hurtling towards Andromeda, mommy’s mean, big sister! 💥 it won’t end well, but don’t worry, we won’t get there in the next few lifetimes
