Thank god there's video so we know what actually happened. Footage here (I could barely watch, so content warning): https://www.nytimes.com/video/us/100000010631041/minneapolis-ice-shooting-video.html.

  • The way I've seen right wing men talk about Renee has particularly disturbed me and I definitely see patterns of misogyny there. I think if it was a man it would have been different, but there is a lot of dislike for women in certain circles. I have mainly heard her called a psycho murderous bitch and a terrible mother. I saw a man describe her as smirking and smug. Just seems like a dissection of her body language and vilification of her character that is so typical of how men treat women.

I made an illustration to bring awareness of Renee’s murder. I shared it on fb and it has over 9k comments and so many are horrific. Pictures of her body, crude drawings of her being shot, and so many bigoted comments… I keep the comments on because the pinned comment shows the NYTimes break down video with multiple angles and there are more than a few people who have been vocal about changing their opinion (which gives me hope) I’ve been moderating as much as I can but for the first time in years I’ve had night terrors after spending my evenings cleaning shit up.

  • You can tell she was trying to de-escalate. So many bystanders trainings and tips are based on the premise of de-escalation and I guess it’s time to recognize that doesn’t matter anymore. ICE agents are determined to harm and kill anyone in their way and we can’t count on them to act like rational human beings.

And the excuse that he was scared because he was dragged by a car in another incident (probably a lie). Okay so take him off the street if he’s not emotionally well enough to do his job. These entitled brats.

He was dragged, but it's because his arm got caught in a backseat carseat while he was illegally bashing in a window of somebody else trying to flee.

So, the front of a car wouldn't be the problem, anyway.

I read a ProPublica piece yesterday from 2014 I think about border patrol agents who essentially stage scenes that say they were about to get run over & had to shoot. Murderer Jonathan Ross has done this MUTIPLE times.

Its beyond disgusting & I want to see him pay. Really pay.

Yeah, but at the same time "Fucking Bitch" does not describe a mental state where he was afraid for his life.

Nope. It describes a mental state where he was mad because he felt disrespected.

The "facts don't care about your feelings" boys get very upset when we don't cater to their feelings.

He also walked across the front of her vehicle twice.

He began drawing his weapon when her wife (outside the car) said that she was a retired vet. He was absolutely intent on intimidating with a weapon and he saw what he thought was a reasonable opportunity to fire it and claim self defense and he took it.

I completely believe that the only thing he felt was threatened was his sense of masculinity and dominance over women.

Really seems like trying to deescalate Gestapo roleplayers at this point

This is crucial. It's going to go where they want it to go, as long as they have the power. And power concedes nothing without force.

  • Oh that's heartbreaking.

Watching all this from Denmark is just so deeply surreal. I live in a society where men will cross the street late at night if they spot a solo woman, just because they figure it might make a difference to that stranger's comfort level.

I hope everybody is keeping themselves as safe as they can.

I wish I lived somewhere like that. That's all I've ever wanted honestly, is a fair shot.

All this really has made me feel like my life (or wt least youth) was stolen from me because I've spent the whole time fighting for medication and treatment and having to quit college for my dream job because I couldn't afford it. We thought it'd be fine because we could still, you know, just live life, but now we cant even do that.

Sorry, I didn't want to dump that on you, but looking at how much I have put up with just to have less and less is... dark.

Don't apologise. I've had my own struggles with medication and treatment, and I know how it can strip you down to the bone - not just when dealing with it, but in how it affects life daily and in the long term.

I wish I could say something comforting about the future we are facing, and the economic struggles that future will entail. It's also hard to feel a proper part of mutual support systems when circumstances mean you can't contribute as others can. What I've learned by living here in Denmark is that most people, writ large, don't keep score. People help because it feels good to do so, and more people than you might think are willing to go an extra mile just because someone asked.

I wish I could extend the safety net we have here to others. It's hard to describe what it's like to never think about medical bills (ever.), not to worry if you'll have housing or food because if it comes to that, there is always help to be found. I wish we could inspire the US, not in danger of getting squished by the American fascist elite.

Sorry for the off-topic, but I wanted to say that I'm really sorry this dicktator keeps threatening to annex Greenland.

The EU should stand firm and threaten retaliation if he continues. His behavior is simply unacceptable.

  • Secret police killed a citizen in plain sight.

They’ve been taking thousands upon thousands. We don’t know the true numbers. Thousands of children are missing from Boston public schools. No one knows where they are.

The US government is in the midst of heinous crimes against humanity.

The US government has ALWAYS been at the center of the most heinous crimes against humanity.

Most of the time it was turned outward cloaked in righteous wars for others freedoms.

Turned inwards, we fight against drugs and gangs.

It was always about control. To control the resources for money. Oil in the middle east and Venezuela

To control the people who shouldn't be talking back and expecting equal rights. POC and Women

It was loud with Rodney King. It got louder with George Floyd.

The world is screaming now. Because it's a white woman. And it's the worst fucking thing in the world to me and also it matters so fucking much to me because it was necessary.

So many people have a white woman they know and love. Renee Good could've been their sister. Their mom. Their cousin. Their best friend.

Most weren't able to make that connection with George Floyd because unfortunately most can't put themselves in the shoes of a black man.

Renee Nicole Good was a 37 year old woman with 3 kids and a dog. She was a widow, and a wife.

I'm a 36 year white, bi, woman with 3 kids, 3 dogs, an ex.

I wanted to protest when George Floyd died.

I want to fucking riot now

  • and people look at me funny when i say 'b*tch' is a misogynistic slur

it always was misogynistic! that's why men use it towards other men, because the worst thing a man could be is a woman 🙄

Yup, specifically comparing women to female dogs, dehumanizing us.

  • Murderers victim blame

It’s very domestic abuse coded behaviour. “Look what you made me do!” while standing over their battered victim.

  • How long before people start shooting back?

And what happens if they do??

    It gets worse.

It seems wrong that they can't defend themselves.

Ironic that THIS is literally the scenario that the Second Amendment is for. Defense against a tyrannical government that's threatening the rights and even lives of the people.

Whaaaat? No, abducting children and locking them in cages away from their parents, military presence everywhere, the President forcing his name and face everywhere, and secret police operating outside the law at the whim of the President and murdering innocent people and even citizens; that's not tyranny! Tyranny is when the government takes care of people by taking some of the rich people's money, or when the government doesn't let companies do literally anything they want, or when the government says I can't beat women and queer people! That's tyranny! We're freer than ever! And anyone who opposes the President's will are gonna get what's coming to them!

    /s

The sad thing is that while it's true that things will get worse faster if citizens start firing back, it's eventually going to get to that level of bad anyway if they don't start firing back. This is a no win scenario. Things are going to get worse before they get better. I just don't see a way around it.

  • It’s like we gathered up all the people in America with antisocial personality disorders and gave them all guns and told them to abuse and arrest anyone they don’t like. It’s absolutely horrifying.

  • Sometimes NYTimes coverage is garbage, but I really appreciate this slow down. This feels so different from the George Floyd murder because AI videos are rampant and we need news coverage that points out the real videos and calls MAGA on the lies.

  • Here’s a fun exercise - let’s pretend these quotes are from the Bible. Who sounds like Jesus?

  • I’m so broken over this and the response from the hateful maga regime.

I usually attend the protests but today’s has me stuck and I don’t know if I can do it. It’s so raw and I have a physical reaction to the grief that comes in waves. Worse than 9/11 or Jan6, or Charlottesville. And the futility of it all weighs heavily.

  • I've tried to express this.

Her righteousness enraged him. The mere fact that she existed in a state of grace, in the face of their angry aggression, enraged him. She did not subjugate her spirit to his hate, so he shot her.

And unless you have ever tangled with a person with this mentality, maybe you can't recognize it.

I have experienced this. The first time I was in kindergarten, it was a man. The second time, I was in in 5th grade, it was another girl.

  • The way conservative men have reacted to this woman's murder has really illustrated why women should never date conservative men ever again.

  • Everyone working for ICE needs to be killed.

  • The energy was electric today in Powderhorn. Such a great turn out ✊🏼

  • I have always known that some of the worst mysognists are gay or on the down low like Jonnie here.
