What I don't get about the self defense argument is how shooting the operator of a moving vehicle in any way improves the situation. Even assuming someone is attempting to commit vehicular homicide (which doesn't appear to be the case), if you shoot them then either you have a dead or unconscious person at the wheel, so essentially an unmanned vehicle out of control, or you have a vehicle being operated by someone who's in shock, in pain, and likely unable to maintain full control over the wheel or brakes. That might be even worse.
The fact that her vehicle crashed into another one after she got shot proves your point clear as day. DHS's own guidelines advise against firing at a moving vehicle for this very reason. Dumbass MAGAts still say he was "acting in self-defense." No, he wasn't. If it was about preserving his life, he wouldn't have gotten in front of her car and would've tried to get out of the way instead of getting his gun out first.
Even if his first shot was justified, shooting at her multiple times through the driver's side window cannot possibly be argued to be self-defense.

I don't think so. I actually think that the feds are really scrambling because of the fact that this time it was a white woman murdered. White women are, statistically, the group least likely to face police violence and the group that the press is most likely to cover when it does happen. ETA: I'm actually seeing different numbers- this article says it was 25 deaths reported while in ICE custody and that was in September but this one says 9 from back in May. So it may be much higher than I thought.
