does anyone have some questions i can ask my surgeon during my FFS consultation?
ideally questions that are not basic and very hyper specific, or often overlooked. i already have a long list but im just curious what other people have asked.
I would do research into specific procedures part of ffs like the nose and how the tip drops, and then like also the jaw like how weak or strong it is what will contouring do it.
I think ffs surgeons are really locked into gendered things so you'll have to do your own research on things that are not gendered or gendered masculine. My jaw got contoured it made my jawline SUBSTANTIALLY weaker even though I have good skin and weak jawline on 135 lbs skinny girl does not look right. My face lost width which usually helps other girls with chad jaw but it turned my round face into a long and skinny one.
Ask about what kind of knobs can you turn I learned later that as a patient we don't really get a big say on the details we just kind of get what we get like a 80% surgery/surgeon and you get like 20%.
Also ask about difference of doing surgery in parts or doing it later. I regret not breaking mine into halves to see what I liked along the way and to fine tune later I just completely changed my face and had my fingers crossed that everything would harmonize in 1 go, and it didn't. Now I've definitely done more than 2 surgeries and the lower half there are basically no procedures to undo or fix the part I don't like, and I'll need more surgeries to harmonize around this horrible feature on my face instead of completely avoiding it to begin with.
Ask about how long some things last like brow lift and lip lift technically isn't permanent, which shocked me as I was signing off on it the day before surgery.
Second this. Id had my nose done years ago and I was happy with it. Fast forward to ffs, I'm a year and a half post op and now im seriously contemplating if my old nose doesn't fit my new face.
Can you show me the exact position where my inferior alveolar nerve runs based on the CT image? How do you determine during surgery how much you can still take off from the mandible bone? Do you use cutting guides? Do you see any areas of my frontal bone that cannot be drilled down further due to material thickness? (My forehead had two areas where the bone was already too thin prior to surgery, so the surgeon would have opened up a hole to my brain if he had drilled down that area)
How do you remove height from the chin (taking off bone from below vs T-osteotomy - each technique comes with advantages and disadvantages)
Do you use ultrasonic cutting tools? Do you employ Hilotherm cooling post op? Which antibiotic is used intra surgery and post op and for how long? Which antibiotic ointment do you prescribe post op for the incision?
“Will you be doing all the surgeries yourself?” - you’d think this is a given but yeah no
oh yeah i heard the tracheal shave is usually performed by someone else
ideally an ENT should do that

I'm sorry about your disappointing results. What exactly was done to make your jaw weaker?
Are implants an option to fix?

"Can you actually do a proper type 3 forehead reconstruction?"
Ask them if they do pre-op CT scans and walk the hell out of their office if the answer is anything but yes
