Four-fifths of the Kaiser Steel GE U30C fleet is visible at their shops at Eagle Mountain, California in October '78. Kaiser's Eagle Mountain Railroad hauled iron ore from the company's Eagle Mountain Mine to the SP interchange at Ferrum, where it was then moved to Kaiser's Fontana, CA steel mill.

Nice unit, that engine clocked some miles over its lifetime.

Wish these were still around. Were they in service after the old plant was demolished to make room for Autoclub speedway (rest in peace...)?

I agree, these had such an appealingly brutal appearance. And they earned it, early GE's were pretty crude machines in a lot of ways.

The U-boats are sick, I'm fortunate to work with one, but I wish there was more

Is this the abandoned line that connected with the Sunset Route over by the Salton Sea?

Yes. Last saw a train in '86 but was left intact, other than the interchange yard at Ferrum, until 2017 when removal of the line began.

    Seems like it is.
