I work for a University and we actually had a meeting with an administrator recently to talk about how they're approaching the current threats. My employer respects trans people, has a large immigrant population, and specializes in "hard sciences"--I'm just waiting to get targeted. We've already gotten several campus-wide emails about immigration scams targeting our international students.

I would have given her a zero and told her to redo the assignment for partial credit.
And I'm highly qualified to comment on this. I have a PhD in writing studies, and I'm a nationally recognized expert on assessment who has presented on the topic at multiple conferences and more than 50 schools.
The rubric was poorly designed, but despite that, there is no justification for this student to have received points for an assignment that just does not meet the minimal standards.
Writing and turning in a paper is not "putting in the effort", regardless of what your teachers may have told you in elementary and secondary school. At the college level, that's not enough to get more than a zero, and it shouldn't be.

They call it being a TA or research assistanceship, but you usually take on more responsibility throughout the program and get a larger stipend, like actually being the "instructor of record" for a class of your own. So if you weren't allowed to teach a class anymore, you might still have basic TA duties or research duties and you would still get a stipend.
Granted, I have no idea what the instructions usually are in homework assignments (we don't really do it like the US does it in university/college level here), but she never cited the Bible in her paper.

It's not that hard to do an assignment correctly but I'm also sure that for a psychology class she could've found some research that backs up her statements just takes research. If I may play devil’s advocate: the semester ended 2 weeks ago, there’s a solid chance that they finished their program or they just won’t be a teaching TA next semester and that’s why they’re “no longer teaching”.
I would hope so, because at least in my grad program there’s a required number of TA hours you need to do. If I were banned from TAing, I would effectively be banned from completing my program.
