Listening to blind this… Sunday morning. I’m old, so RR&A came out when I was in high school. A friend lent it to me and I fell in love. Fast forward to college: blind drops. I wish you younger fans could experience what that was like. Absolutely blown away as track after track of masterpiece music rolled by. It was like they were in color after the B&W of RR&A. The arrangements, the production, it was… next level. To this day, I get halfway through this album and I simply cannot believe how much more A+ music remains.

While SAS moved the ball forward in significant ways, it didn’t hit me as hard, and there are a few tracks that are good, not great. All 3 albums are brilliant, but blind is the zenith to me.

  • I'm with you. I'm a few years younger so I was in HS for Blind and just absolutely adored it. It was earth shaking, and when I think about my favorite Sundays songs OF COURSE a bunch from RWA are in there but then I think about Blind, and how basically every one brings immediate joy and wistfulness.

Lol except for a weird quirk - not a fan of wild horses. I think it maybe it got a bit oversaturated and now it just doesn't land for me.

I saw them in SF for the S&S tour and WH was requested. Harriet says they couldn’t remember it and I was like “that’s fine!” 🤣

Same! And yes, RWA, not RRA. LOL at myself.

Same age and I’ll just add how blown away I was by the vocal harmonies and shoegazey guitars-felt like amazing evolution to me. Then Static was more stripped down and polished-didn’t quite hit the same way (although I still love it).

I agree completely with your take!

  • I love Blind but RW&A was the goat for me. Also old. Heard it right when it came out and it just blew me away.

One thing I will say is that I’m a huge Smiths fan and RW&A felt like a continuation (if not improvement!) of me favorite band of all time. Blind is more their own sound coming through. So I definitely love it. Just my second favorite of theirs. So glad I got to see them on that tour. Incredible.

The Smiths and Sundays will forever be my 1&2 and been playing my Smiths Sundays playlist since I got my first iPod.

  • Just discovered the Sundays a couple of months ago. Am blown away by all three releases, but yeah, Blind is an amazing album

Congratulations and welcome to the club. 🙂

  • You're adorable! I was in my early twenties when Reading Writing came out. I'm not just old I'm olde.

  • I absolutely agree!!!

  • I have the same timeline and agree to all you wrote. And we're not old!

    Speak for yourself! 🤣

  • I’m not far behind you. I remember Static dropping at a similar age. A friend brought it over, slipped the disc into the player without letting me see what it was. I recognized it as a new release instantly

  • Discovered them last year. I was a toddler when they were performing. One of the best I’ve ever heard

  • jealous of ALL of you because i was born in 05

  • I was in middle school for blind, but I was a wannabe Gen X cool kid and picked it up when I heard Winona Ryder mention somewhere that she liked it. Changed my life.
