Why the fuck did Bortus leave the guy who tortured Topa alive after he beat him!? He should have shot him before leaving the room! Never leave a witness! Not to mention he hurt his daughter! He would have been shot right in the head just before I left the room! You gotta do a full sweep and leave no witnesses man 😫
In the words of Westley, from The Princess Bride… “to the pain… you get to keep your perfect ears. So that every cry from every babe that weeps, ‘Dear god! What is that thing’ will resonate in your perfect ears.”
He gets to live as a freak, with his cowardice.
Some fates are worse than death.
True but I do not know how he stopped himself. I couldn't
We're also savages to them. Have you picked up on how Kelly talks about people from our time? Even Gordon said "killing animals like a serial killer." We're barbaric.
I also would have wanted to kill that guy.
That may be but killing him would have been justified
Kelly had something to do with it…
I feel mad about that too, Dude is lucky all bortus did was take out/destoy his other eye, he has his dad rage in him
Wasn't it set to Permanent Neural Damage? And it went IN his eyeball.
Right! If that was my kid he would be unrecognizable. Like I know Kelly was telling him to stand down but he already beat the dude, might as well finish the job he had sensitive info on top of it
Plus isn’t topa like the only kid who is consistently there? I loved the arc but they didn’t need to go full on Brutality on one who’s what? 9?
When he hit her my jaw dropped I was stunned and didn't think I'd get worse cause who's gonna show a kid getting tortured on a show right? And then he zaps the fuck out of her! Like fuck they rreeeallly wanted to make sure we hated this guy (which we do, 100% justified)
Yes!, also I know it’s not relevant to your topic but, what do you think of the Episode of them abandoning Gordon for an decade, and Called him selfish after he obeyed his orders and laws that weren’t even made yet for 3 years and went for help on the only person he even knew in this timeline
Yooo I cried man. I understand both sides but if my friend really wanted to stay I don't think I could have the heart to force them like that especially if they had kids
Yeah, I felt so bad for Gordon he went through so much, and they treated him like an villain for simply being human and they knew it don’t have any effect on the Timestream, and I think this would’ve been an good but sad ends to send off Gordon if the actor decided to stop, or include his actual family? I mean how many times has the Orville break the rules when it’s convient for them? May I remind you of past Kelly? Or when they went through an black hole/rift to another dimension which is technically time and space travel, and not to mention the Mind fuckery of the Planet’s who’s orbit is apparently so slow that half the time they are in another universe!
That's the thing though, they don't know what won't have any effect on the time stream. It might, it might not. If I recall correctly, when the show takes place they barely have an understanding of it, but they understand enough to know that they don't know much.
I think it was to show how deep the misogyny of the Mochlans runs.
By the flip side of this, Bortus showed mercy and didn't give in to the full extent of his rage. Blinding someone for life can be a fate worse than death, particularly in this highly military culture.
Bortus didn't show mercy. The only reason he didn't rip his throat out was that Kelly stopped him.
Let them think they'll live, give them that little shred of hope, then kill him. He deserved it
The dead don’t tend to care they’re dead, this guy now has to suffer for the rest of his life, and Bortus gets to remain the bigger person.
To prove he is better than him. That rejecting girls, torturing them and others, follow archaic rules, is wrong and he’s not the same as the other Moclans. And eye for an eye never solved anything and Bortus is more evolved than that.
He absolutely should have, not for revenge, but because Topa gave up the name of the spy.
Because Bortus is a good officer and a direct order from a superior officer was enough to give him a seconds pause and regain his composure. While the torturer deserved everything he got it reminded Bortus that A. He is better than that, B. Topa needed him to be her father, not a savage out for revenge and C. Kelly wasn't gonna say shit about what already happened but she couldn't pretend Bortus didn't just murder a man against her orders
My thoughts are: at the time Moclus was still a part of the Union, and Bortus would have absolutely been court-martialed not just for murder, but disobeying his superior officer's orders. I sorta feel like the Union doesn't look at "extenuating circumstances" when it comes to things like murder, since they're not even allowed to kill animals for food.
No witnesses? He literally confessed to everyone that they went to the facility! Exposing it was the whole point!
Yeah but he should have killed him, he hurt his daughter and had sensitive information
That's what makes union members better than the bad guys; they don't kill people even when they deserve it...only when it's absolutely necessary to stop what the person is doing.
A good example is cops dealing with people criminals who just shot or stabbed someone. The person may deserve to be killed, but it's ethically better to take them in alive if possible. Cops are trained to use minimum necessary force. If the person stops being a threat, they can't just indiscriminately kill.
I was always fairly certain that the shock stick into the eye socket would have either lobotomized the guy or caused him to be crippled to a vegetable by frying his brain and that would be worse than death anyways.
witnesses just complicate the plot so unnecessary
