I'm a big Orville fan, but I'm Scandinavian so I don't subscribe or access US media like that, why wouldn't Adrianne be involved anymore? She's a pretty key character. Genuinely looking for a succinct and relevant reply.
Pasting my reply to someone else who asked the same question in another thread.
Two years ago, Adrianne Palicki was on a podcast where she basically said that she wouldn’t be back for the fourth season because she had some issues with how it was run, including the long wait between seasons. She’s since done several conventions and panels where she sounds like she’d like to come back and is very positive about her time on the show. However, people with inside sources say that Kelly has been written out because more happened behind the scenes between her and Seth, so he wrote her out and replaced Kelly as a character. As for Adrianne, she has lately been saying she doesn’t want to upset anyone but that she doesn’t think there will be a fourth season. Given that others have said there definitely will be, and that she still seems to be in contact with most of them, I think it’s kind of her way of saying she’s not returning without violating an NDA.
Seth and Adrianne had a business disagreement over two years ago that didn’t end well. Seth has written Kelly out and added a new character who has already been cast.
In multiple interviews she commented that the schedule wasn’t worth the pay which I get. The actors were contracted to make the episodes but the production company was dragging it out.
Well, that definitely did happen, but she never came back around and said, "actually, yeah, I'll do another season if it happens".
Then again, maybe she just thought walking away was an easier way to get off the show than the alternative: dating Seth for a bit, and then getting written off. (I kid.)
We're all hopeful for a season 4, but the longer this drags on the more remote the chances of it happening. Palicki already confirmed she's out, and I would expect other actors to have moved on too.
I keep seeing this but she never confirmed she was out for sure. Confirmed means 100 percent there’s no chance she’ll come back, and that hasn’t happened. I’m not saying she will come back just that she didn’t confirm it.
Actually she did. It was during an interview, I forget where, she said she was fed up with the long production times which prevented the actors from pursuing other roles while they were locked up under contract. Asked if she would return, she emphatically said no.
I remember that interview from a while ago, and her saying how she was going to do other roles and wouldn’t rely on the Orville anymore because she’s a working actor who needs to be paid, but to me it still seemed kind of possible she might return.
I really hope she does but I’ll gladly take just more Orville in general even without her. I want it to be a long-running show like Star Trek, because it’s the absolute best modern Star Trek running and the only thing that currently fills that place for me that old Star Trek did for people back then.
I wonder if Seth is thinking of doing a next generation type of show (easier to reset the cast in show) and trying to get a bunch of scripts together so they can film 2+ seasons in a row.
I know Star Trek TOS was only 3 seasons long, but those had around 20 episodes each and the movies as well. Going into a TNG scenario after only 36 episodes would be sort of dumb. We barely got to know most of the characters.
I hate how they film shows now. Granted we get more one off 10 episode series but I miss when I was younger and a season was 22 episodes. Even if they cancelled iron the first season there was still a good chunk of story there. Now they do this stupid 8-12 episode seasons that take 2-3 years to make while they let it bake to decide if they want to renew.
I suspect the reason is syndication and consistent network television contracts with ad revenue not being how things work anymore. Everything is different now in the streaming era and it sucks. It seems like there is always this desire to compact everything as much as possible and raise the stakes as high as they can go to justify a big budget 10 episode season every 2-3 years released all at once, because the platform wants to concentrate as much hype into a single release as physically possible. But that does not make for a good universe building narrative arc because you don't end up building all the little filler episodes and small moments that make the payout of the big ones worth it. It feels artificial, like a show designed by boardroom committee to be a movie but 10 hours long.
I also blame social media, because in the attention economy it seems that the only way to get noticed and to get people to pay money that month for a streaming service is to generate that massive amount of hype that things like stranger things and squid game did, and everyone is trying to replicate that trying to chase the most amount of money they think they can make with what they think will make it, not what makes a good story.
To me the orville s1-2 had the perfect balance over 12 and 14 episodes, which were tight enough to be standalone episodes with interesting self contained plots, and spread out over enough episodes to create their own narrative arcs between episodes from different seasons, with season finales that had enough buildup to create a very compelling story.
At price tags that come in higher than ever (especially shows like The Orville at around $8 million per episode), you’re not going to see long seasons of streaming shows.
It's been so long that I think the best we can hope for is an Orville movie. It would be so nice to have a movie come out every few years and make it into a franchise.
Idk why people are still taking Adrianne's word on the matter. Shes said multiple times that she isn't involved anymore and wont be if the show starts back up again. Shes literally the worst possible person to be taking her word about this lol
All she did was answer a question she was asked. And she didn’t say it’s not happening. She said there’s been talk of it but that she hasn’t heard anything recently. Others who are still involved have said similar things.
The problem is the longer time goes on the harder it will be to get all the actors to be available for filming. But yeah I’m sure Seth will make it happen eventually. He’s clearly passionate about the series.
I wish he'd just SAY something, though. We're getting all this shit from random actors & the podcast, but Seth himself hasn't said anything one way or another in 3 years. I don't even care if it's a cancellation announcement at this point, I just hate how he refuses to comment on it at all unless he's hawking some new bit of merch.
I’ve asked through people with direct lines to Seth for him to just throw us a bone, but I have the feeling he’s going to wait until he can finally say “Here we go!”
With the way LA is right now and who’s in this cast they’ll jump at 10 episodes of an established Disney backed show. Seth and Scott are the only two consistently employed people on the show.
I really like this show, but for how long it’s been off air talk is cheap. I need to see or hear something concrete in production, not just promises it’s coming. Otherwise I’d rather just accept it ended and not devote brain bandwidth to it
I am almost certain S4 will happen sooner or later, but if Adrianne isn’t going to be in it that’ll be a hard pill to swallow. Halston Sage dropping the show after a few episodes in S2 was already pretty disappointing but you could live with Allara leaving the Orville. Kelly on the other hand is too much of a key character to just “drop”. If they kill her off that would be too heavy for a show that started as a comedy, if they write her off it better be for the whole season with her appearing only on the first and last episode until they find a deal that works for everyone irl. Both scenarios kinda suck if you ask me.
I feel the same way. Kelly is integral to The Orville from start to finish. It’s not the same as Alara or anyone else leaving, except for Ed. Ed and Kelly have to be there for the show to be what it is. I’m sorry that she most likely won’t be back, and even though this is my favorite show, I don’t think I’ll be watching it when it comes back.
If it succeeds, good for them. I don’t wish failure on the people who put time and effort into the show. It’s a big project, and extremely well-made. But I personally do not want to watch. And I’m not going to “hate watch” what used to be my favorite show.
The Orville was more comedic in the beginning but was never really a comedy. It was not played strictly for laughs.
Adrianne will not be appearing in any capacity. In fact, since at least five years will have passed in universe when the story resumes, Kelly will likely have been gone for several years.
Kelly would still be there if things didn’t take a turn between Seth and Adrienne. It was an unfortunate situation that probably shouldn’t have happened, but it did and here we are, with Kelly gone (probably for several years story time) and a new character in her place.
Halston actually left because Marvel offered her the role of The Dazzler, but despite big talk of multiple appearances, they kind of screwed her over with one heavily edited appearance and that was it.
What exactly happened with Seth? I only know what Adrienne P shared on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast. That is a legit reason for wanting to move on. You can’t expect the cast to wait forever in between seasons.
The most I can say to be fair to both parties is that there was a business disagreement between Seth and Adrianne that didn’t end well. It from what I was told had more to do with their professional relationship than problems with production time.

She’s already made her opinions clear I thought? She doesn’t plan to be involved. I don’t expect them to tell her what’s happening?

Easy enough to write her off. Getting back together, so can't serve on same ship, getting her own command. Boom. Option to guest star her later.
I'd almost prefer her to get Admiral position since she is a career minded person.
Seth and Adrianne had a business disagreement over two years ago that didn’t end well. Seth has written Kelly out and added a new character who has already been cast.
Right? I thought she said right after season 3 that she was done with the series no matter what.
I’m assuming because she got married and divorced from one of her co-stars in the middle of production?
In multiple interviews she commented that the schedule wasn’t worth the pay which I get. The actors were contracted to make the episodes but the production company was dragging it out.

Had nothing to do with it. She and Scott are still close, marriage just wasn’t for them. They married and split between S2 and S3.
We got what we got man. A few years of great tv. Life got in the way two-fold. I’m a HUGE fan but Grimes and Seth really don’t look too great. :0
Money and time can help to change a persons mind. Never know..
It’s not her mind that needs to be changed so much as Seth’s.
Yeah this.
We're all hopeful for a season 4, but the longer this drags on the more remote the chances of it happening. Palicki already confirmed she's out, and I would expect other actors to have moved on too.
I'm still waiting for #SixSeasonsAndAMovie so I understand the sheer optimism of those hopeful for fourth season of The Orville.
Well, that sucks. The show won't be the same without her.
No. It will be different. Trust in Seth.
I keep seeing this but she never confirmed she was out for sure. Confirmed means 100 percent there’s no chance she’ll come back, and that hasn’t happened. I’m not saying she will come back just that she didn’t confirm it.

That was the interview with Michael Rosenbaum almost two years ago.
She’s been separated from The Orville for over two years now. She and Seth parted ways after a business disagreement.
I wonder if Seth is thinking of doing a next generation type of show (easier to reset the cast in show) and trying to get a bunch of scripts together so they can film 2+ seasons in a row.
Nope. S4 will rejoin the crew around five years later, maybe more.
I'd honestly be happy with a streaming movie every 4 years or so.
I know Star Trek TOS was only 3 seasons long, but those had around 20 episodes each and the movies as well. Going into a TNG scenario after only 36 episodes would be sort of dumb. We barely got to know most of the characters.

I could live with 15 episodes seasons each year. A good compromise

Back in July, Palicki and Lee spoke briefly at Shore Leave.
Normally you gotta buy me dinner before you can come in my inbox.
Someone had to say it…… 🤣
I legit looked through all the comments first to see if anybody had already said it haha
Talking Orvillie says its happening no matter what.

Then he needs to hurry the fuck up, because I want more Orville! 😂
Tell that to Disney. They’re the ones holding it up.
Ironically it's the last "Trek" standing, and it's by <checks notes> That Family Guy dude!? 😆 I'll take it.
Don’t worry. The returning cast (and new cast) are very much looking forward to it.

Because Euphoria is an incredibly popular show with HBO's full backing.
The Orville is a relatively niche show with a network that may or may not even be committed to it, much less have it as one of their headlining shows.
With the way LA is right now and who’s in this cast they’ll jump at 10 episodes of an established Disney backed show. Seth and Scott are the only two consistently employed people on the show.

I think we will get something someday as this is something Seth is really passionate about.
So does Seth. As he said, it’s a question of “when, not if.”
Braga said they were Noodling ideas but nothing is set a few months ago. She has said no news and this is from today.
She is no longer involved with The Orville and hasn’t been for over two years now.

I bet you will… 😉
How come?
I think curiosity will get to you. You’re going to want to know if The Orville truly fails without Kelly.
If it succeeds, good for them. I don’t wish failure on the people who put time and effort into the show. It’s a big project, and extremely well-made. But I personally do not want to watch. And I’m not going to “hate watch” what used to be my favorite show.

i'd rather watch a new season (or more) of The Orville without Kelly than none at all. a shame but not absolutely the end of the world.
The show is dead, leave it at that.
Not according to Seth. What he says counts.
The show is canceled it's not coming back ever
Nope. Has never been cancelled. Unless you know something no one else knows, including Seth and his Executive Producers.
