It's based on the image itself, not any metadata (there wasn't any on the image I uploaded anyways). It also can still detect it with rescaling, recompression, cropping, etc... Still can be fooled of course, but at least if it detects it then you have confirmation it came from Google's AI
after doing some research It seems that this image doesn't have a proper origin outside of some random tiktok video using it as a Reaction image, although this is likely just some random stock photo or from a photo shoot, I will see if I can find the actual dog themselves
The photo shoot image that the comment is talking about is not real. As for the actual image the oldest still existing version of it I can find is this imgur post from 2017 which says it comes from an r/aww post, but I can't find that original post.
No I mean a different photoshoot, I know this one is ai, but thank you for finding an earlier source than what I found, I got my evidence from a random article that claimed that tiktok was the original origin
Hello! Your post has been removed because it violates Rule 6.
Before posting, double check that the media you submit is actually the original.
You can find the real origin of your media and resubmit.
Thanks!
Eh, this feels like an ai extension of the original photo without a source tbh
Yeah this image is only a couple days old, and when you put it into Gemini it detects Google's AI watermark in the image.

Knew it, i could recognize the “extend this image” style that ais do
Damn, fake matpat effect
Heartbreaking
I mean its cool that it can be detected, either that or whoever did the edit didnt strip the metadata or otherwise lightly fry it

The background behind the dogs head is blurred like the original photo, but not the rest, so it was definitely ai
tbh, the dog being in the exact same angle as the original photo is enough to tell that is AI
Appears to be more ai, not the original
This is AI, OP
You can actually expand any image on it, and it will look "realistic"
