I wasn't listening live, so I couldn't put this in the chat but wanted to share:

Evangelicals are constantly appropriating Jewish traditions.

Since Jesus was Jewish, Evangelicals feel at liberty to pick and choose Jewish practices and tradition and sort of use them as a virtue signal in Evangelical spaces. This gives them some spiritual cred so-to-speak. This also extends to their obsession with Israel, as they also see it as a home of sorts for themselves since they are "actually" the chosen ones.

So to hear that Charlie Kirk would come home and say "shabbat shalom" is not out of line with his basic evangelical bullshit. It's right on brand.

Examples of Christian appropriation of Jewish heritage (a more articulate version of what I am expressing)

  • "So to hear that Charlie Kirk would come home and say "shabbat shalom" is not out of line with his basic evangelical bullshit. It's right on brand."

I respect you. And I understand that opinion and appreciate you putting it into context.

But I'm fully sure that that entire story is a lie; it comes from the most transparent grifter I've ever seen in my life.

They are looking to make money on this guy's name and this is an easy way to do it. And I fear I'm not even being cynical enough by saying this.

That is 100% possible (probable, even) - my point stands in so far as explaining why Evangelical grifters, like the Kirks, would make up such a story.

Sometimes I just like to use my past to help others further understand these clowns whenever possible.

I appreciate that! Please don't think I was poo poo-ing what you had to say.

  • I told that kraut a fucking thousand times that I don't roll on Shabbos!

    Shomer fucking Shabbos.

  • As a secular Jew, I wish these "Christians" would f*ck off. Their support of the RWNJs in Israel is a huge part of the problem.

  • Yeah I know of a lady that is a Christian but celebrates Passover. She likes to say there are "no rules" for Passover and that is just so very wrong. They think doing these appropriations makes them "holier" than other Christians. They also like to claim "God told them to celebrate X." Usually in a dream, but some claim they see an apparition of Jesus, which I can't even begin to unpack here.

It's not very surprising to me. As Christians get deeper and deeper into fundamentalism, they tend to just start making shit up and appropriating things from other religions. They typically also have ZERO theological training and will just spew their delusions online as well. It's a mess. I don't recommend diving into those things.
