At first glance, Painkiller looks like pure chaos: fast arenas, demons everywhere, zero chill. But the longer I played, the more it felt like I accidentally stepped into some unhinged theological fever dream.
You’re a sinner stuck in Purgatory, not a hero. Your main enemy is Azazel, the fallen angel tied to humanity’s sins and violence. And the Nephilim aren’t just “big monsters”, but divine mistakes that shouldn’t exist.
And the setting? Purgatory. An endless combat, trials, and repetition. Kill, suffer, repeat. It's kinda fun, cause the game about redemption solves everything with more killing.
I normally ignore lore in fast shooters. This time, I didn’t. And I actually enjoyed it.
And yeah, here is the Ark of God named as an Ark of Annihilation on the screenshot. Ironic.

I wanted to like this game because I love the originals but it just felt like such a slap in the face to what the original games were. If they called it any other name I probably would have thought it was cool
