"Eeeeeou?" or "mlrrph mlupp mlooop" or "this song is when I used to wear a dress and travel on a train." All but the last "Robertisms" between songs are always indecipherable. Do you know what he said between any of the songs except the "Push" lead-in?

I had some bootlegs and he's equally understandable, but I'm just wondering if anyone can translate anything between songs or if it has ever been translated from the show In Orange since it's the most popular live concert. Or maybe you can hear what he's saying if you're from his area in England.

Here's a refresher if you're up for it:

  • I turned on the subtitles and it just said "Fuck if I know"

  • "this one goes right back to when i bet most of you were... little. this is called play for today"

"this one's from a bit when we did pornography. this is called a strange day."

"sometimes there are songs there is nothing to tell about them. this is called primary"

Awesome! Thanks. Someone with a PhD in Robertese showed up!

  • I know before Let's Go To Bed he says "This song is the last chance I'll ever get to learn to dance in front of so many people..."

Apologies if I'm not quoting perfectly. 😉 (It's off the top of my head)

    That does sound accurate!

I've always thought it was "this one's the last chance I'll ever get to learn to dance from tony (timmy?) pope" which i figured fit since Pope directed LGTB.

  • I love how at the end of songs, he says ‘Q’. Which is really ‘Thank You!’.

    Lol!

    (Not Tolhurst) ;P

I was just thinking the same. Kew!

I ALWAYS say that! Haha also I can never understand him talking at the shows

  • I think I hear "catch the sinner in the act, this is called piggy in the mirror"

"killer in the act, this is called piggy in the mirror"

Good guess. Definitely hear 'the act' part.

  • I’m convinced he’s very much aware of his mumbling and his accent. And, that he cleans it up exactly at “This is called _______” just so he can hear the audience cheer. 😂

It could be! A lot of it does sound like mumbling and sometimes more sounds that words!

I’ve been a fan of Show for 30 years. To this day, it’s my personal favorite Cure album.

I still have no clue what he says before Friday I’m In Love. It’s something like “I’ve heard enough of that set (inaudible mumbling in british). This is called Friday I’m in Love!”

    And, everyone cheers. 😂

Lol. Yes, :: song title !!! :: whoo hoo!

Ill give that one a better listen. I spent time with it when it came out, but I don't listen to their live stuff too often anymore. But I'm reinvigorated after seeing the theater show.

Maybe there's some dream bootleg out there where he says:

"There's been a lot of talk about this next song—maybe too much talk, this song is "Killing an Arab".

    or

"Or am I buggin' ya, I don't mean to bug ya—ok, Simon, play the doom!"

  • Cure are popular now ehhhhhhh this is called in between days.

Oh, I thought that was "pure pop for now eeeeee this is called..."

I am NO authority on Robertisms though!

You might be right there. After all these years!…

    We will never know!

  • I love that Robert says things between songs, but I always leave Cure concerts wondering what he said during his stage banter. Always.

  • Difficult equation between adoring his accent and not catching a single word when mumbling as he does. But I love the guy to the end of times! 😂🖤❤️🖤

  • I used to laugh about this so much when it came out. Couldn’t. Get. One. Word. 😂

I bought a few bootlegs first, and thought it was just the low quality. Nope!

Yeah not at all. I’ve had the VHS since the first release (I’m old). We used to blast our TV’s to try to figure out what the heck he was saying! I love Robert, but he’s never seemed primed to move over into an acting career. Haha

Yep, I got it for Christmas I think. I'd seen the singles VHS a few months prior, and was a little shook by the "Killing an Arab" video since I didnt know what they looked like.

Then "Jumping Someone Elses Train", again, no band. Then "10:15 Saturday Night".. and was like "ok sailor-Gap. Wouldn't have guessed..." and "Boys Don't Cry"..."hrm, so they recorded this way back when they were kids?"

THEN verse three, I was forever changed...

I have it too! And no VHS player anymore, haha. Also old. 😊

  • I will try to watch again and will report, as I like to believe I am slightly fluent in Robertese (this term made me laugh).

Meanwhile, may I recommend this beginner course in Robertese to practice? (where he even addresses how he knows that people don't understand him while he talks) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrk5XfRuu5A

Omg. I'd buy a boxed set of just this.

    You're really funny :)

Here's what I heard upon re-watching the concert - which was incredibly difficult to understand, and required a few replays, even with a big part of my family being from London, all my logged hours of Curelingo and my natural ability to communicate through made up sounds and words.

01:23 - Hello, this is called shake, dog, shake

06:13 - clear (?) the act, this is called Piggy in the mirror

09:37 - Thank you, this song goes right back from when some of you were... little. This is called play for today.

13:28 - Thank you (whispers sweet secrets to Simon). This song is from... when we did Pornography. It's a song called Strange Day.

18:01 - Some songs there's absolutely nothing to say about them. This is Primary.

21:42 - Sure is determined to get in it, this is ehh the head bit, this is called the kyoto song.

27:01 - Thank you. AH! CHK! ah. shhh.. Charlotte Sometimes.

31:15 - Cure are popular now (neighs like a horse). This is called in between days.

34:25 - The last song I'm going to relive (?) this year, it's about the one that makes me worse (??) This is called the walk.

37:47 - Thank you. This one is from the head on the door, it's called a night like this.

42:29 - This one is about wearing a dress and traveling on a train. It's called Push.

47:00 - This song is about eeuuuuuhs (?) it's called a hundred years.

1:04 - Thank you, this is called sinking.

1:09 - Thank you. Be Back? (Communicating by clicking sounds)

1:13 - This is the last chance I'll ever get to learn to dance in front of so many people. This is called Let's go to bed.

1:17 - Thank you. Show us... two, three, four, five, SIX!

    1:24 - Hold on, someone's there.

1:27 - Thank You. OoooOOhh. Somewhere you've gotten eaten up. This is called Faith.

    1:36 - Give meee.. eggs? X?

1:46 - Thank you very much everyone. It's been a reaaaally goOOoood night.

Thank you for making me watch it again. Aside from the music and band, I just really love how rowdy and lively the crowd is. And also seeing Tim Pope fight for his life trying to pull focus around Robert.
