I might just be a sneering optimist and coping but I believe Butcher will do the right thing. I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS I BELIEVE. There is more to Butcher than just his hatred for Supes and we've seen it, he spent the whole of season 4 battling with his conscious manifested in the form of Kessler and Becca.

Becca and Kessler are representations of two sides of him and I love how they did it because we basically get to hear his inner thought out loud and visualized in 2 kinds of people. Butcher WILL save Ryan, he WILL kill Homelander AND THAN THEY'LL ALL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER. HE WILL NOT KILL THE BOYS, HE WILL NOT KILL THE BOYS, PLEASE AMAZON I BEG OF YOU. AND I I KNOW WHAT SOME OF YOU ARE THINKING "But Butcher hates all Supes, even Annie and Kimiko" Well I say to you NO. There is more to Butcher underneath the surface and Butchers manifested hallucination of Becca gives a little insight on this. When that guy tells him about how if he makes the virus strong enough to kill Homelander it'll kill all Supes the first people he thought of were Annie, Kimiko and Ryan. HE CARES, I SWEAR IT, I CAN SEE IT. HE ALSO DIDN'T HURT KIMIKO OR ANNIE WHEN HE WENT ALL TENTACLE ON NUEMAN, ALSO ALOSL ALSOOS IN SEASON 5 HE'S GOT THE BOYS BACK TOGETHER AND SEEMS PERFECTLY COOL WITH KIMIKO AND ANNIE. THEY'RE NOT JUST HIS SCHITZO HALLUCINATIONS, HE'S NOT COPING IM NOT COPING PLEASE

  • I believe in him too. If he fully turns evil and murders some of the Boys, his character arc will not get a satisfying ending. Remember the conversation between Butcher and Hughie in season 4 episode 8 about the "Topless Steak house in Nevada" ? If Butcher turns fully evil, then Hughie won't go to the steak house.

    I think Butcher takes out Homelander and doesn't end up killing The Boys like the comics, then Hughie will go to the steak house for Butcher and lenny.

  • I've read the comic book and seen the TV show so I have a measure of the man.

    He might well kill Homelander but I really don't think he's going to prove to be the hero of the story. His battles with his conscience ended pretty conclusively: with him embracing his evil side in the guise of Kessler.

    He's super-powered enough to take out high-powered supes with ease and has a bioweapon capable of committing genocide. So he has the means to do evil.

    He's ruthless, driven and largely amoral - so he has the motive to do evil.

    So, I don't think his story will have a happy ending. Just a really, really violent one.

  • I do hope they take Butcher in a different direction unlike how it played out in the comics. If it does shake out like it did in the comics I hope its done better. The concept of the comics ending isnt bad it just was executed poorly. Hvae high hopes for the final season and I am stoked

  • There is definitely more to Butcher beneath the surface. He’s a very nuanced, layered and complicated character. There is absolutely a part of him that “doesn’t want to do a genocide”. He says that too. When he says they’ve all got to go to Maeve he was already extremely upset and disillusioned, he was extremely drunk after being sober for months and we know he loves to push people’s buttons, so saying that to Maeve was a direct hit in his mind. Of course he’s thought about how great it would be if there were no supes, and of course he’s gonna fuck up many more times but I do not believe Kripke wants to copy an ending that was already done, especially after the changes he’s already made and the things he’s been saying in interviews since the beginning. I think Butcher will decide at the very last second to do something to sacrifice himself for Hughie or Ryan or both. They’ve been setting that up for a long time. Pictures Karl Urban has already posted support this too in my opinion.

  • I'm on board with you dude, I KNOWW Butcher has done unquestionably evil shit but I cannot help and root for him and want him to do the right thing, I want his ending to be bittersweet. Also I really hope that the show has a good ending, after all the grimmy and dark shit we've all been through, I don't think I'll be satisfied if the show doesn't end on a hopeful note, like Ryan becoming the universe's Superman or something, I'd love for that to happen.

  • Love your optimism haha. Regardless of what happens, I really just hope they stick the landing this season. Probably a lukewarm take around here but Butcher is one of the most interesting characters in television imo. Karl Urban has done such a fantastic job.

  • Why not both? He'll do the right thing and work with everyone to finally take down Homelander but still might mentally lose control and kill or nearly kill other people he shouldn't. Be that other supes, himself, the the boys, or even Ryan.
