Me and my...then wife, and youngest son (around 24 at the time) were in Puerto Rico, me and wife's 3rd trip and sons 1st, we were in old San Juan and it was around 7 to 8pm and we were heading to a steakhouse for dinner, it was on the side of... kinda open space with a statue in the middle and a roundabout with buildings surrounding everything, 1 story, 5 story, several 2 story, a good mix, a car would pass by a few times and we only saw maybe 4 other people in this time, we walked pass this gentleman with a sax and as we went he started playing and about a half block later I stopped my wife and son on the restaurant steps and we listened, he played a quick song and stopped but you could tell from that short time that the acoustics in that space were awesome so I gave my son some money and had him go ask if he would play something else for us.... absolute magic, a once in a lifetime (to me, to us) performance that just blew us away as we sat on those restaurant steps on that warm San Juan night as a gentle sea breeze caressed us. I can still (15 some odd years later) hear the sound of that saxophone echoing off the buildings, the soft breeze, the smell of meat cooking and the looks on my families faces.
Makes me think of Colin Stetson. If you like the music in this video, check him out. He plays a contrabass saxophone. It's over six feet tall and sounds amazing.

This is one of those city moments that feels like a unique gift if you're lucky enough to be passing by and experience it live.
