As a grocery truck driver, DG is the worst. Those store lots are not meant to take big trucks in any way shape or form. It's common knowledge in our corner of the Trucking world... Stay away from DG. Not worth it.
That being said... I don't know what this guy did here. He tore it up that bad with his STEERS? There's some hard core plowing going on there. I don't know why he felt the need to do that. To my knowledge, they unload with the metal roller conveyor thing so, there's no dock to hit. No need to be straight with your trailer or anything.
I came here to say the same thing. DG is awful and their customers are equally impatient assholes. You did make me laugh with "hard-core plowing" though
I swear these stores are in the most out of the way places too. Every backwater area in PA has a DG, and I can’t imagine how they get an 18-wheeler into these locations. Between right ass rural roads and insufficient paved area to maneuver, I wouldn’t want to deliver there either.
They exist in food deserts a lot where the nearest Kroger or even Walmart is a good 40-50 minutes away. So you get a lot of Amish people going in. (Yes Amish people do go in stores) Or people who live way out there but don't have a car. Or even people who do have cars but just don't want to drive two hours right now to get 5 things.
Yeah, I used to deliver to Walgreens stores in the Seattle area. They use the same method of rollers from inside the trailer to the inside of the store. I took pictures becasue I knew some truck drivers wouldn't believe me. I quit after 3 1/2 years after getting hurt multiple times and no steps were taken to make it safer.
He definitely damaged the truck. He’s snapped the bumper off completely on the right side. If you zoom in on the pictures you can see it’s also damaged where it bottomed out on the edge of the pavement.
Idk what a bumper and body panels cost on a truck cab but I’m going to guess they’re not cheap and that’s before you get to whatever damage he’s done underneath.
I work as a truck breakdown coordinator and can tell you: Looks like bumper cover and brackets gone about $1750, 2 side fairings about $800 each (all painted). Now that’s considering there is no chassis damage or radiator damage (those things sit low) and set you back $2500- $3000.
The real kicker on top is the wench out. This is going to need a heavy duty tow with rotator. In most cases $1K an hour 2 hour min + callout fee usually $300ish. Around $5500K total best case for this event.
Sorry, I know that was a lot, but wanted to give some perspective.
Pretty much every Dollar General is located in a place where it’s a bitch to back a big rig into. They need to start using their own drivers, since things there are already far more expensive than just a dollar. The real dollar stores are the no-name ones that pop up in old strip malls.
I know I’m a a bit of days out but… how can you bobtail out of dirt with no weight on the 5th wheel? All the weight is on the front… there is no way he’s getting out of this without a tow. Not trying to be a jerk, but think about the physics of the situation.
There is a DG outside of Cleveland, OH that has a guardrail that is constantly getting taken out by the drivers, but it's unfortunately the quickest route to the highway.

Its not even that they’re out of the way, its that they put them up in every conceivable spot you can imagine.
If the town has a population of 500+, there either is or will be a DG.
My graduating class was bigger than normal and we had 36 kids. There is a DG across the street from the grocery store.

Damn is one of my favorite places to deliver
You could ask the driver, but he doesn’t speak English
They probably did a sick reverse burnout though.
Can’t park there mate.
Why isn't the tow truck there yet? They're usually much faster.
/r/CantParkThereMate
I think you’re wrong because they are clearly parked.
Just need their pastor to kick him out for sleeping there
I’m kinda surprised it’s not Swift, but given the limited damage that makes sense.
Honestly, that doesn't look too expensive.
There is no damage to the truck. Just the lawn needs work now lol
Edit: okay the bumper is fucked but given its a Werner truck driver, it was probably already damaged.

I actually really appreciate all that detail - very cool!
Thanks! It sure looked expensive to me so I was kind of ??? at Mr. “Just the Lawn” there.
They didn't all of that themself? Their parents didn't raise a quitter. And idiot yes, but not a quitter.
When I was little I thought Kalamazoo wasn’t a real place. Then I got kicked off the bozo show there.
This driver clearly didn't have his requisite plank of wood for getting out of the mud
This looks closer to "unditching log" territory
Best part is he did it more than once.
Try, try and try again…..I guess.
I can the YouTube guy now “here we got another bonehead trucker! Probably wearing flip flops”
Dollar generals are designed to be hostile to their own delivery trucks. I've done a few runs for them and it's usually a nightmare.

Drop the trailer, take a hard left, full throttle and pop on out of there. Solved. (I know nothing.)

Probably like a $1,200 tow.
Maybe McDonald's will give him a discount for being authorized.
Crazy I’ve also seen a car back into another car then drive off in that same parking lot. Just last year
Probably another turbanator who got his CDL from the vending machine.
I hope you informed him that he wasn't allowed to park there
It’ll buff out
Task Fucked successfully.
Dispatch! It’s actually not as bad as it seems.
That will wipe out all his atta-boys!
Probably had a back spasm, air breaks were shot, there was nothing he could do, boom right into the grass.
My best guess is the driver had it in neutral and forgot to apply the parking breaks. It happens more often than it should.
Someone spelled Swift wrong on the doors
Werner is just as bad.
Did you hear about the Swift driver that stabbed the Werner driver in the face 52 times?
…he was teaching him how to eat with a fork.
It’s just grass man not expensive. The front bumper can be zip tied
He got some splainin' to do to his boss.
You can't park there!
Dave’s hometown!
Whoa. You found one that restocks?

Well don't drive off the pavement it's soft EH Dollar General Should Design there Delivery Area Better
