• New crafting menu seems very very useful, basically turning the guide into a vanilla recipe browser is such a good QOL change and will help newer players a ton

It's gonna be wild. I mean, obvs the browser's going to be better for the anywhere thing and the per mod or enemy drop sections.

Now he will have his name as Guide really having an astonish senses.

I miss the Console Edition UI tbh D:

basically turning the guide into a vanilla recipe browser

You mean like he is already? All it does is make it easier to find stuff

  • This becomes all the more important with the changes to craft from nearby chests that will arrive with Terraria 1.4.5...

    This. Is. AMAZING!

    Just like in Core Keeper

    [removed]

    And Enshrouded.

God Minecraft and Valheim just keep falling further behind.

Idk what you're talking about. I have storage busses hooked up to my applied energetics system and can craft with all the items in my storage

    We're talking about vanilla...

i think he is being ironic here

Craft from nearby chest wasn't already a thing ?

I haven't played in a while, but I think you were only able to open a single chest and have access to it's materials for crafting, rather than having access to the materials in all surrounding chests. This will be a huge QOL upgrade.

    From nearby crafting stations*

From chests is gonna be way better if it's like that one mod that lets you do it

    Bye bye magic storage

Highly doubt the changes will ever beat just how good magic storage is. The search function by itself is a godsend.

Right the storage function is still better, but damn do I like Terraria's new crafting UI. Plus there's just something that feels really organic about placing your crafting stations down instead of having them in a box.

Also there's one specific thing with Magic storage ngl that bugs me, the fact it cant craft with anything in your inventory which is like

    More annoying than it sounds

I agree wholeheartedly. I think the new UI is a massive step in the right direction and will help new players a lot. I wonder if this came about because of Throarbin's videos. Or if it is just a coincidence.

I do kind of wish there was a middle ground, though. Maybe being able to stack non-material items in 1.4.5 will be able to help make navigation easier? We'll have to see.

Also I wonder if we can do bulk crafting easier in the new crafting UI, or if we'll still have to hold down the mouse button and wait to craft things one by one per tick.

More like, Hello again to playing my vanilla save files

I never had a problem with that tbh

  • Oh my god i have been begging for a new crafting menu for ages! This is easily the best spoiler for me

  • I like those odds for a release this year! Not that they’re high, I’m just a sucker for hope

    January 1 release BAY-BEE! WOO!

  • VANILLA RECIPE BROWSER !? PEAK

  • interesting, so you can craft from nearby chests but it seems that you actually have to go to the crafting station and interact with it. that does sound like it would feel better than if you were able to just stand in the middle of your crafting area and both access all of your chests and crafting stations, even if it's less powerful, and makes a lot more sense than the current system

it's probably just an option, there's a ton of new players that get confused on how crafting stations work and this can help

Knowing Relogic, it's not necessary it's just a way to filter to SPECIFICALLY X recipes. Which doubles as being new-player intuitive, as I don't think anyone saw workbenches and went "Okay, NOW I can craft workbench recipes in my crafting winndow!"

Its sure gonna reduce the sheer amount of clutter i need to navigate in the menu when crafting.

  • That new crafting UI looks great!

    RIP recipe browser

Don’t think the vanilla browser is going to have mob drops and stuff too, so I doubt it will leave my list.

  • Man that looks amazing, i can't wait to play this update, january can't come fast enough!!

  • As long as I’ve been waiting for this update to drop, I’m completely okay with them taking as long as they need cuz they just keep cooking

  • Does anyone know if the old crafting menu is staying in as an option? It doesn’t look obvious by the trailer if the old menu is there just for the showcase. The new menu is objectively better but I am a sucker for nostalgia.

  • It just hit me. It's been almost 15 years. We're still getting monthly updates. WILD.

  • its really cool that pc players have to wait because of the stupid console approval process

  • Are they ever going to announce a new game? I am tired boss

Considering Terraria is their baby and they had a cancelled project in the past, that's a no.

Curious, but, were you... expecting otherwise??

Red has said he wants to make Terraria 2

I have said I want Red to make Terraria 2, but I'm also not upset at T1 updates, I just really imagine T2 updates would go somehow even harder with all their years of experience behind them now.

I mean Terraria 2 would be just a remake of the original game in a new engine with new stuff

Red's stated that there is a LOT of systems implemented in 1 that can't be changed without a complete overhaul and he'd rather just make Terraria 2. For example the effort it takes to add a new liquid to the game would take so much effort that they'd rather just do a new game if they wanted to.

And one can assume that the features left on the floor after Otherworld would TOO be added to Terraria 2, such as Grappling swinging.

So safe to say it'd feel like a new experience I'm sure.

You cannot make terraria 2 in any way that isn't just a remake of terraria 1 in a new engine because it would have to spend the first 10 years of its life just playing catchup.

Payday 3 flopped specifically because of this reason, it came out 2 years ago and is STILL playing catchup to payday 2.

i wouldn't mind terraria 2 but i hope it doesn't flop and i want it to keep everything the original had. but more. terrarias already a great game and the only reason it needs a second game is cause of the outdated engine. it just feels like a risk that might not be worth it

Even if it wasnt the best game ever upon release, if even a fravtion of the current amount of owners of terraria purchased it, it'd likely be at least a financial success. Especially with the extremely dedicated playerbase knowing the game would likely be expanded upon and supported for over a decade

Not gonna lie, I'd totally accept "This is the last update for Terraria... Because the next update is the first update of Terraria 2(.0) which will have a ground up engine overhaul!"

But alas, while I would love this, I know that's BEYOND a huge ask. (pleasedoitpleasedoitpleasedoit)

Why can't i expect a new game from such talented developers? Every dev is making a new game but not them? Just because they tried something new doesn't mean they can't try something else. It baffles me how blind this comunity is. Everyone would rather see the same game updated for 20 years. it's an absurd waste of talent

I'm pretty sure 99% of the community was more than satisfied with 1.4.4, it was the devs themselves that decided to continue adding more to this game, has been that way for the past.. what decade

And if they wanna add more to it they can be my guest. Not like we can stop them anyways it's their game they can do whatever the fuck they want lol I aint complaining

I mean, seems like Red would rather work on updating the game, and it's been out since 2011. A developer who loves the community and joy that the game brings to others - It's kinda hard to come by these days honestly. He does it for the fans by the looks. Maybe another game will come down the line once he's done with this one, or maybe he just wants to settle for this game being the ultimate sandbox that he can come back to. Nothing wrong with that.

If you wanna talk about how much of a waste of talent is being put into the game, then talk to Redigit. Sure he and the team would love to hear that? Sounds a bit harsh to me, but everyone's a critic.

Polishing the 7th best selling game of all time is obviously the correct move.

Just go play someone else's game instead.
