I know fans here put T1-2 on a pedestal. Following T2, what is your favorite storyline?
#1 T3: Rise of the Machines & Salvation (part 4)
#2 The Sarah Connor Chronicles (TV series, following on from T2)
#3 Genisys (reboot)
#4 Dark Fate (following on from T2)
#5 Zero (Netflix 8-part anime)

I've enjoyed all 6 films and both TV shows.
If I had to pick my "favorite" post-T2 storyline. Hmm... that's hard.
Honestly, I think I would pick TSCC. I loved how dark it was and how the danger felt so real.

EDIT: I had 3-5 numbered 4-6. LOL Fixed!

  • I enjoyed all the movies and The Sarah Connor Chronicles. All for different reasons.

From this list, my favourite would be storyline 2; the Sarah Connor Chronicles. Purely because of the world building that occurred in the series compared to the movies.

I have yet to watch Terminator Zero, so I cannot comment on that.

When you get the chance, do see TZ, it brought back the "horror" of the 1st film and the "dread" of TSCC.

  • I really enjoyed T3 in the theater at the time but now I would have to go with Dark Fate (however flawed it may be) simply due to Linda's return...

I liked having old woman Sarah Connor, but how does she not get taken out of the fight the first time she gets tossed around? (EEK)

    Fair...

I suppose everyone can reasonably argue, "Dude, it's a movie, everyone's superhuman in the movies," and they won't be wrong. LOL

Yeah, anytime a terminator picks someone up and tosses them around instead of instantly crushing them just reminds me that I am in fact watching just a movie lol

When the humvee fell over the dam waterfall, at the very least, she'd have old people broken bones. When the turbine exploded and crippled the Rev-9, everyone's tossed aside. The human characters should have been shredded with shrapnel. Sarah, even without shrapnel, would be headed to the old folks home with a broken pelvis.

I think advertising the movie as starring a pair of geriatric leads shot themselves in the foot.

T1 and T2 were much more realistic, I think. Even 3 isn't too bad with this kind of stuff

Agreed whole heartedly. I feel like the "realism" was there for the first 3 films and TSCC.
TS brought us the throwinator, and then it got cartoony in TG and TDF.

    Spot on.

Man, TSCC was so good. Really disappointed it never got a proper conclusion.

At least we can watch it via DVD, Blu-ray, streaming whenever we want.

  • If we are talking about purely the films/shows; it’d be Salvation. Though I wish they stuck with the Marcus taking over John Connor’s identity ending, but without the part where he then murders everyone and skynet wins, because that part is just idiotic.

If we are talking any media then it’d be Terminator: Resistance because that game fits into the lore so damn well and is an excellent addition and example of content being done right.

I think it'd be gutsy if John Connor died, and Marcus right simply takes up the mantle, but not the John Connor identity. We enter a new future where all bets are off. Marcus and Kate could even allude to John Connor's return should there be more time travel antics.

  • Genysis was the most fun for me.

Mostly the 1984 segment of the movie, though. And J.K. Simmons.

I thought the T-3000 was a cool concept and looked awesome.

    Everything else, though? Ehhhhhh...

Genisys was decent up until they went to 2016.

Nice to meet a Genisys fan. High five!

  • Terminator 3.

Judgement Day was inevitable no matter what.

I don't mind Terminator Salvation, Genisys, Dark Fate and Zero.

I can watch any of them tbf, my favourite is possibly either The Terminator or Terminator 3.

Within the film (T3), I took the T-850's lines to have double meaning about JD being inevitable.
The obvious one is that it's happening later that same day.
The secondary one, remnants of Skynet will survive for someone else to build.

For me, the strong entries are T1-5, TSCC, TZ.
For me, only TDF is a misfire, but it's still a fun film despite that.

There was no definitive answer if destroying Cyberdyne Systems would destroy any trace of Skynet.

I know in T3, Skynet got outsourced to the military after the destruction of Cyberdyne Systems.

Plus there's the Terminator Metal Arm in the Steel Mill though I'm not sure how damaged it was.

Didn't John Connor say to Kate Brewster that her father had to have "always" been involved on some level, so Skynet would have eventually made its way to the military. John admits they thought they destroyed everything but clearly failed in that. Hey, at least they delayed it by 6 years, that's something.

    I don't remember.

All I know is not all of the staff were in the building when it was destroyed, so I doubt Miles Dyson was the only one who had files or whatever.

I know Miles had the Chip and Arm in a secured area.

  • 2 because even though I haven’t seen the show, it looks good as hell.

1 is alright but just because it has Salvation

    *#3 sucks ass

*#4 destroys the entire motivation of the first two films and replaces said motivation with the same shit

*#5 Zero, I remember starting that show but never finishing it

    *You skipped the number 3.

Yes, I did skip #3, OMG, LOL, thanks for this.
While I like TG, I get why people were nope nope.
Yeah, TDF kind'a killed the franchise.
Can we just pick up after TS or TG?
I'd give TZ another go, it's only 8 episodes, and it's awesome.
    You gotta see TSCC!!!

TZ does need a second chance, in fact it really deserved a first chance and Sarah Connor Chronicles is definitely something I’ve gotta watch. It’s a crime I haven’t seen the best Terminator media since Terminator 2. Zero does sound really good though

Hey, just be happy there's Terminator media you haven't seen yet. :D
I need to rewatch the Terminator franchise. haha

I rewatched the first two only recently, I’ve gotta give everything a rewatch instead of going off memory or watching certain clips from certain movies. Even the ones I don’t like, Terminator 3 could turn out to be a fun action film with Arnold, just not to the standards of the first two.

If you want to watch in release order: T1-3, TSCC, T4-6, Zero.
If you want to watch by storyline:
    #1 T1-4
    #2 T1-2 + TSCC
    #3 Genisys (reboot)
    #4 T1-2 + Dark Fate
#5 Zero (not sure which entries this follows)

Yeah, I’m familiar with each timeline. But I’ll probably binge them in the order I have desires to, so you know, Sarah Connor Chronicles and Zero gotta be first.

No reason you can't watch the 2 shows first, then the films. Have fun!

  • I'd choose the storyline from Resistance - they just need to turn that into a movie, maybe flesh it out a bit. Would be a perfect final part to the trilogy imo.

  • 1

But... T3 sucks as a movie... the storyline is too forced though.

Salvation was ALMOST the third movie I always wanted.

  • My fave is the Stirling T2 trilogy novels.

Runner-up is The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

  • Of the ones you listed above?

    1: Zero

    2: Genisys

    3: Dark Fate

    4: Rise of the Machines

    5: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
