Yeah, this is why it is luxurious to buy these stuff from any artist, only a few people can buy. The only reason why Taylor does this a lot, is because she is so big that there's always a lot of people to buy her stuff.
Since the mid 2000s, when I started to buy albums, I would always miss the cool ones from the bands/artists I like. This is something more for hardcore fans and people with money to spare

TTPD had 25USA (not counting the anthology) 70 total - Notably I found this one gross because of the 'exclusive tracks' that pressured fomo buyers into buying all 4 variants (and then she sold a limited edition slip case to HOLD all four variants)
To compare to other artists:
Skeleta by Ghost (which also came out this year) has 23 variants in the USA, 60 total
The Bestiary by Castle Rat has 20 USA, 23 total - worth noting that these are the result of the album selling out repeatedly, and each pressing receiving different treatments, there are probably more signed TLOAS copies than total copies of this album, thus is the state of metal in 2025
Ricochet by Rise Against has 6 US versions and 16 total
Private Music by Deftones has 12 North America versions, and 22 total
Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess by Chappel Roan had 14 USA and 25 total
Hit me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish has 13 USA, 25 total

In general- Variants ARE an industry wide issue, BUT some artists are leaning into it more than others. I was happy to see Taylor not do the exclusive track BS this go around, but this stuff with exclusive signed CDs is just dumb- she could have easily done one signed insert with all the pictures and not pushed people into fomo buying.
So, why is OP happy to have a collection of 4 signed variants? These items have fans that appreciate them and don’t think they’re dumb.
