For Christmas I got a fox head mount, I decided to brush it as there was a lot of shedding on the shield it's mounted on and a climb of fur came out, no bald spot but should I be worried? The brush I used is an eyebrow makeup brush with a similar feel to a tooth brush as I read that you can use a toothbrush to clean / brush mounts, did I mess up? First time owning anything like it

  • A little shedding is normal, but the clumps are more concerning. Id check for any signs of insects and treat it just in case. Better safe than sorry.

How would I treat it? I heard it can just be put in a freezer, is that right?

Yep, that's the ideal way to do it! Afterwards, I'd recommend investing in some taxidermy protectant spray

If it's vintage, it's possible that its just damaged or it was done incorrectly leading to fur loss. Theres not much that can be done about this besides talking to a taxidermist to see if you can get repair work (may just be cheaper to get something new)

If it's new taxidermy and gets worse, speak to the person who did it and try get a refund/repair for free
