tl;dr: apparently telling a dps to use the lb on the add in the normal Endsinger trial causes people to lose their minds and vote abandons occur.

So for context, I was just trying to do my daily roulettes because tomes and I get to doing Trial roulettes. Thinking I can just swap to healer and alt-tab to check something while I wait and maybe stretch a bit. Probably browse and look at that one cookie recipe I've been eyeing at for the past week and see if I needed to buy something I'm missing in my pantry.

No, the second I hit queue I'm hit with an instant pop with 32 minutes in progress.

Morbidly intrigued, I hit Accept and load into Endsinger normal of all places. I'm hit with this gem to start:

Someone's new and I have no idea who it is. Dark blue: silent PLD

Someone was new, though my first thought after the ready check was that they had a couple wipes, maybe a discussion as one of the people there had the danger dorito on them, one of the healers dipped and they waited a while to get a refill so they could have the tank lb3 to survive transition.

Hoo boy I was very wrong on that assumption.

As the fight started it was pretty clear as to why the healer had dipped: my cohealer sage was most likely new and was eating vuln stack after vuln stack. I kept them and the party upright for the most part until the vuln stacks just obliterated them. The dps seemed pretty decent though, so I wasn't quite sure as to why it would take them THIS long to complete a level 90 trial.

Then again this is Endsinger and randoms, and sometimes my expectations are lowered to be practically non-existent and I'm still left disappointed by people.

We eventually get to the point where we have to dodge planets and kill an add, and I let the dps know that we can lb the add since we get a free one later.

The resistance to such an absurd notion was immediate:

Such confidence shattering.

Somehow the GNB tank and my cohealer SGE eat floor during the add phase, I pop a raise on my cohealer, one of the dps uses lb2. GNB threatens a 'don't you dare'. PCT screams no and says to reset. Add dies, we immediately get an lb3 as scripted by the fight.

PCT realization.gif

At this point the other dps are screaming, I'm guessing at the PLD tank (after looking them up I realized they were most likely the new guy), Endsinger drops the planet on our heads and we wipe. Echo went up from 30% to a 40% buff and I didn't even realize it went that high for a story fight.

I point out that the tank needs to hit lb3 for that event when the add dies. Apparently this was enough frustration for someone to throw up a Vote Abandon. I hit No. Endsinger really isn't that hard, but I have to remind myself that some people can't even make the hurdle even if it's flat on the floor.

Vote passes.

RIP my time.

RIP my time and those first timer's time. Looking people up on the Lodestone showed that both the SGE and GNB were in the same FC, most likely pre-partied, and both the SGE and PLD were most likely the new people. Now I'm not exactly sure of what sort of events happened before I queued up or if any sort of meaningful discussion was had, but holy heck you'd think after that long in the trial people would figure out mechanics and how to actually get the win they need. Especially when someone has the danger dorito and was doing mechanics correctly.

I should've just not queued up and made the cookies instead.

  • My honest reaction to duty pops in progress:

<15 minutes - Sweet, they're probably at the end already

    >30 minutes - Aw hell no, someone is committing crimes in there and I won't be your next victim

Eh, worth checking out, sometimes you end up only having to do the last boss just because someone DC'ed and you're the first tank/healer to queue in 5 minutes.

Worst case, you can just leave without penalty.

Though that doesn’t apply for trial roulette in progress

30 minutes - Aw hell no, someone is committing crimes in there and I won't be your next victim

Nah I want to find out what juicy nonsense is going on, if it's still going on I can leave without penalty anyway.

Crimes. I'll have to remember that one.

I had a mentor roulette that had a 30 minute elapsed time. I was really hesitant but I accepted it. It was prae with a tank and healer with shared last names, shortly after I joined the second DPS joined. They were finishing up the mech section.

Immediately the tank says "DRG tried to be a tank and pull" and I responded with "and?" and he says "so we kicked him?" Me and the other DPS try explaining that prae has like 10 ads before the mech section in total so pulling here is really more of an exercise in keeping yourself awake.

No response and I don't even understand how they fucking spent 30 minutes on the section before the mechs. Even without any DPS in your party it should take like, 10 minutes max.

Then I saw the SCH spamming ruin instead of broil or AoW. Explained how art of war is both an AOE and more damage than ruin, and was responded with silence. Gaius fight went okay, summoner used caster lb on the add phase, the SCH struggled to understand how shields worked and instead waited until damage went out to apply them (they had the HW relic weapon and I'm suspecting that they bought the account)

Not necessarily bought, relics are not hard to get, and I've seen too many new healers applying the shield only after damage, most of times cause they don't know when the next damage instance will come and the shield's timer simply expires, especially in old content where you have raidwides 2 months apart from each one. At least that couple had the decency of not ignoring your tips, if they got quiet all of a sudden then maybe they'll try that. How they spent 30 minutes for that section though is a mistery best left unsolved.

Usually when I get DIP and I'm the tank, it's because the tank was trash and all they needed was a competent tank to finish the damn run. When I'm a healer it's a toss up, it could be because the last healer was bad, or the tank was bad, or the DPS was just slow. The RARE times I get it as a DPS I end up being the DPS they needed lmao.

I once joined a duty in progress for m8 and when I loaded in, the entire party was gone, so I populated the queue again and cleared in one go. Was fun trials roulette

Second trial you need LB to survive… and people still don’t do it? Why tho

  • I queued up for normal raids yesterday as SCH, and insta-pop with 10 minutes passed. Load in, it's Vamp Fatale. Apparently, there were some new folks, and they'd had a couple wipes so some abandoned. After a DPS and a tank fill, we proceeded to do it with no problem.

    It's a toss-up sometimes.

That sounds like the party I was in the other day - DPS was really lacking leading to 3 wipes then a healer, DPS and tank dropped out. We refilled and cleared with no issues, so I can only assume that DPS that left was having some issues.

    Could've been. You on Crystal?

My biggest problem with Vamp is people don't realize she comes back and starts spamming the half room kicks once you only have one segment of floor left.

  • This reminds me of a time when I joined an in progress duty with a notice saying: '52 minutes elapsed'. I have no idea what the hell was going on, but I was compelled to see it, the moment the black fades, the first thing I see is an Au Ra player cry emoting in front of me. What they told me was that they couldn't get past Dohn Mheg's second boss, because two of the original people refused to absorb the tethers and they auto wiped multiple times. The only one still staying from the original party was the Dancer, the one crying.

Wha? Why did they refuse the tethers? It's LITERALLY the main mechanic of that fight!

Some people will just not want to touch tethers at all lol

The bulbasaur gets very, VERY big, uses stomp, and the max raid battle ends.

    lmfaooooo Max raid

  • Some people lack the ability to learn. They make the same mistakes and have no clue how to get around them without someone explaining to walk. Sad that the party disbanded, but it seems like it was DOA with two people in crucial roles needing to be carried that hard.

  • Something somewhat amusing about this outcome is that a vote abandon was thrown up when those wanting to leave could have at any point after that first person had already left. Only the first person to leave endures the 30min penalty after all.

I can only assume most people don’t know that for one reason or another

I’ve been playing since 4.1 and did not know this… It’s very very rare I encounter a party bad enough to abandon or leave though

  • I had a zodiark run nearly go to lockout week 1 of EW. People could not stay alive or not accumulate vulns and Styx (multi hit stack) was wreaking absolute havoc.

As someone who played through EW very recently I would NOT have gotten through that trial without a friendly dorito who had the patterns memorized. I can easily see that wreaking havoc when no one has had time to learn it.

Yeah, it's one of the few trials where people instantly bail still lol.

It was hell. I loved it.

  • It's always the worst when the abandon comes when the party is just... This close to understanding it.

  • This is the most matter of fact post I've seen about a shitshow run. Well done.

  • current day FFXIV trying to do content is like the fucking prison scene from Idiocracy.

Loading into the instance and just spotting the problem player feels like that scene where Not Sure sees the big dude in the yard just sitting on a dude and then pointing at him making the "you're next" gesture.

Hi, yes, Yoship, I’ve already served my static sentence? Can I just take all of my gear and go? Thanks!

Nothing hits as hard as your co-tank not mitting the obvious shared tankbuster 3 times in a row, popping like a water-filled condom, and then being confused why they died.

  • I've left some raids that had just really, really horrible players.

I joined an in-progress 18 minutes M8 as dps the other day and was confused, and we ended up wiping. The healers were absolutely awful, not healing properly and dying to mechanics all the time. I was RDM and I had a raise on one of the healers (after the add phase), and people just decided to eat the edge instead to reset... I just bailed after that.

Then I got a few of the new raids where I was healing and my co-healer either died all the time or didn't heal on AoEs, and I just couldn't keep everyone up (actually wiped on Doomtrain yesterday because of that - couldn't heal tower alone when I had used up all my instant heals).

I'm not a great player and it takes me a while to get mechs sometimes but gosh I'm not THAT bad.

About Endsinger though - I've been in a raid where people timed their LB3 on the add so badly that we somehow did NOT get a bar refill and wiped because of that lol. Also, a lot of tanks don't know when to actually hit lb3 (I've had some who didn't even have it on their bar).

  • Yowza. Inclined to play such groups extremely straightforwardly - optimal play instructions just confuse them.

  • Some people only learn things the hard way. Others simply can not learn. It happens.

  • That's somehow the most appropriate meme to use for Endbirb.

  • That's crazy that being wrong lead too the guy vote abandon. It's okay too make mistakes and be wrong. I had this happen in Vamp the other night. No new cs so we go in and we wipe 4 times. I keep explaining "look where she's pointing and go to the other side where its safe". After the second wipe they listened and then the dreaded towers and saws part. After that wiped us 3 times I took the 30. I needed to piss so bad lol

  • Man I love when you get one of those "way too long has passed are you ready for trouble" queue pops. I'm like damn son, do I have time to grab some popcorn.

  • I've had terrible experience on this fight as a healer also, back in EW. I don't know why people are going crazy on this fight lol.

  • Imagine being bad at normal trial, maybe, I mean maybe they need to see a doctor?

  • The more people realize you will run into messy situations doing dailies the less you all will post 🤣 don’t expect much and don’t have high expectations 🙂‍↕️

  • Little reminder : 1. If the sge and hnb hit the floor by commit unliving act on themself, they can be reported.

    1. Pct can be reported for ordonning a reset as giving order and saying to reset are against ToS.

Still funny that people (not new) don't know the fact that the lb can be used on the add though.
