You're correct, this Doom cannot be cleansed by healers, only via the platform.
Typical rule of thumb, if the Doom is forced then it will be cleansed via heals or esuna. If it's an avoidable Doom then you either need to fulfill a mechanic to cleanse or it's uncleansable.
A number of doom type effects that are avoidable are cleansable, such as the gas in the first boss of Dead Ends, and the gaze attack in the second boss of Troia. I don't think there's any rule of thumb that can adequately square doom instances up. Somehow, every single application of it seems to be the exception to any rule put in place lol. I think the only real consistent Doom is if it comes with a "set to 1 hp" with it, which is cleansed by healing to full.
Better example of the healable doom is the last boss in Pharos Sirius and Dead Ends iirc. We've already been taught that self cleansing doom mechanic in Sunken Temple of Qarn (which is unavoidable might I add). So not only did the tank fail the lookaway, he didn't cleanse his own doom.
To be fair to the Qarn example, Qarn is not only an optional dungeon, but with good stun timing (made even easier with the rework for trust compatibility) you can make it so the first boss never even actually gets the doom attack off in the first place.
Yes, where if you get hit by any mechanic twice within a one minute period or twice ever during the savage version , you just get doomed and die instantly
CoD chaotic doom is avoidable and cleanse-able. Rule of thumb is there's no rule of thumb because each expansion forgets the rules setup by the previous.
If it has the white line over it, it's esuna-able. If it doesn't it's either a heal to full type doom, a stand somewhere to get cleansed doom like WoD and Qarn, or a "you're gonna die you messed up nice knowing you" doom.
Hold on, was the video of WoD or of how to heal...because if it is of WoD...oh boy that tank needed to watch it himself next time he throws that at anyone.
Honestly rescue is such a weird ability. I almost never use it unless I’m playing with friends and I’m actively TRYING to kill them… fights get boring sometimes… they deserve it… probably >.>
It's hard to pull off good rescues unless you see it coming early enough. I've got 2 I'm particularly proud of. First was in dead ends, teammate was hit with the hysteria debuff and I managed to rescue them into the tiny safe spot for the snapshot before they were off in Narnia again until the debuff wore off. Other one was in the 2nd EW alliance raid during a some players spread while the rest stack mech. I saw a player with a spread marker chasing the stack so I set up where they should have been going to and used rescue + icarus to get them out of the stack while I got into it. That dopamine hit was godly but I doubt I'll have an opportunity to pull that off again anytime soon.
Most of my Rescue casts are for the one turtle guildhest in the form of 'hey stupid, over here.' Don't really use it much outside of that because by the time using it seems like a good idea, the window has already closed.
Dies to avoidable mechanic that cannot be prevented by healers in any way (beyond Rescuing the offender into a floor patch, I suppose), then proceeds to blame the healers. Brilliant.
Man I remember that very first time doing WoD when I began playing in 5.1. Moment I saw the rotating four platforms lighting up and a doom debuff I said “oh it’s temple of qarn, gotta stand on that.”
"it's not hard to hit the cure button" he says, to a astrologen, who doesn't even learn cure, and besides that even at level 50 benefic isn't really needed because cards and essential dignity are just incredibly good, but that's besides the point because i just wouldn't take advice from someone who tells me to use a action that i don't even have
Yep WHM is literally just benediction once every few minutes. All the other healers get oGCDs (although AST can be a bit sparse too, SCH is best by far) but WHM only gets its oGCDs (bubble, assize, tetra) in the 52-60 range, and lilies too but even those are glorified cure 2s until you get blood lily at 74
Only way to get doom in WoD is missing the look away, so not only did the tank fail that mech, they didn't cleanse their doom. There is literally nothing the healers can do about that, which makes this post even funnier.
New dungeon's first boss is arguably the most aggressive "doom" we've had yet since it's a guaranteed one shot on mech failure because it's usually followed up with a raidwide or a spread. I've gotten good at planning the swift + thin air + raise the moment I see that come up, and for the first day or so people would complain until they read the debuff and realized it's not that I don't want to do anything, it's that I CAN'T do anything. People shut up real quick after that.
Man had his whole life in his hands and fumbled it. Nobody to blame but himself.
I would have sent them a WoD video to explain how to cleanse the doom in that fight. All you gotta do is step on the glowy circles. It's not rocket science lol
If I was tank and the following conditions are all true:
-I've used all my mits (imagine using mits in WoD, but taking 2 damage is still less than taking 3 damage)
-my healers are alive and have at least one brain cell between them
-I'm main tanking whatever brain off boss we're at in WoD
I'd probably also be a tad irked. Just a smidgen. A bit of annoyance, as a treat.
Now. If I was a healer and I let someone die in WoD I'd be absolutely embarrassed.
I see. So just to make it clear, make sure we understand it right, if the tank died to an uncleansable Doom, is there a reason why you told the party you didn't know which healing tools you had at level 50?
Tbh when I've only healed higher content for a while getting into lower level stuff is always a bit of a "what can I do again? Oh. Nothing good." moment
I'd definitely be pointing out that it was doom tbh.
I wouldn't even be aggressive about it (I'd say it as pointing out what they died to, what it does, and how to cleanse it. Maybe it helps them or someone else in the party in a future run or maybe it doesn't) but if they're going to try to call me out in chat I'm letting them and everyone else know it was a mechanic that was entirely on them and I couldn't do anything about it when the chat log alone would make him look justified.
I see. So the first Mortal Gaze, which gives Doom, happens at 1 minute into the Angra Mainuy fight, and the Doom cooldown is 10 seconds long, meaning the tank died at around 1:10 if we assume it was the first Doom in the fight, or further down since there are other Mortal Gazes during it.
If at 23:16 you say that, and at 23:17 the tank starts complaining, this means it took at most 1 minute and 59 seconds between those messages. If the tank started complaining after dying (we don't have that information) it's kinda tight in time between talking about not knowing your healing buttons and the tank dying to something, and if we have 23:17 as the tank's time of death, the fight was more likely than not already going on at 23:16. But you do have almost one minute to talk about something other than what's going on in the fight. But then again, at that point there would have been only one mob pack before that boss, and it's odd for a healer to be speaking about not knowing their buttons right when a tank dies.
I may be reading too much into this and you may be honest and sending the wrong message at the wrong time to the chat, and I apologize is that is so, but something sounds weird to me here.
You can see me talk about using GCD (healing) in the second message. This isn't a callout post, just an amusing interaction I had. Even if I were slacking, there are 2 healers in the party, so we both would have had to drop the ball simultaneously.
Iunno man, by your own timers the healer had 50 seconds of leeway to say this before the tank got pissy. I'm willing to trust that some cranky bastard just didn't notice doom, especially since it's otherwise next to impossible to die in WoD if even one healer so much as looks in your general direction
Yeah, it's just weird to see the healer saying that and then the tank dies right after, and then be told that these two events are not related at all.
It's like hearing about someone saying "It's been a while since I last drove a car, and I don't usually drive manual" right when they leave with their brand-new manual car, and then later they come back and say "someone crashed into my car". Possible? Absolutely. But a little weird. So I'm not affirming anything.
you can make as many analogies as you want but this mechanic notoriously kills people every single time. it is also not uncommon for a healer in your alliance raid to have not played their job recently, no less downsynced to 50. this situation is 100% believable to literally every single person with experience in this raid what the hell is this lol.
Considering you're failing some of the easiest content in the game with incredibly easy to avoid mechanics, I'd be more ashamed than mad if I died in there.
How'd they die anyways?
World of Darkness doom from other comments.
In other words, something that is not the healer's responsibility in the first place.
Sometimes Doom gets cleansed if you reach full HP. In that instance it is the healer's responsibility.
I'm very sure WOD is not that kind of Doom but that might be what this twat was on about
You're correct, this Doom cannot be cleansed by healers, only via the platform.

notably, the gas in Dead Ends first boss ISN'T doom.
In name, in function it's basically the same. Instant death on expiration.
It’s also really frickin easy to not get doomed in the first place in WOD. Just avoid the gaze mech. That tank is a moron.
legit had people crashout in DR because they cant read what twice comes ruin does
That's the 'get hit twice and fall on your face' thing, right?
Yes, where if you get hit by any mechanic twice within a one minute period or twice ever during the savage version , you just get doomed and die instantly

Pads or turn around before Eyes On Me goes off.
Nah, it's Mortal Gaze. Eyes On Me is the AoE from the adds.
It’s cleanable but also like if this wasn’t a learning party tank should know better
Edit
I thought it was COD my bad lmao
everyone dies there, its' not personal.
Bad at reddit so can't add text to the OP:
Tank died to doom mechanics, blamed both healers, refused rez while he searched for the video. Rest of the raid went off without a hitch!
Sounds like the video helped if the rest went smoothly (jk obviously)
You can't edit image posts actually 😢
Hold on, was the video of WoD or of how to heal...because if it is of WoD...oh boy that tank needed to watch it himself next time he throws that at anyone.
I mean they can cleanse 🤷
Oh wait Edit Thought it was COD lmao
They probably should’ve looked up a WoD guide instead and then find out you have to cleanse doom yourself!
Can it be cleansed I can’t remember
No... you have to walk on a glowing floor to cleanse it.
Yeah but those darn healers have rescue so actually it IS their fault! /s obviously
the last time I yanked someone who died the first round to it and wasn’t moving at all across the arena they snapped at me lmfao
Yeah for some reason I was thinking it was COD at first and was like hmm doom can be cleansed in the chaotic I think
It's that eye boss? That makes his tantrum funnier.
Yes, It's him !
Dies to avoidable mechanic that cannot be prevented by healers in any way (beyond Rescuing the offender into a floor patch, I suppose), then proceeds to blame the healers. Brilliant.
What do you bet he'd complain about a rescue if they did tho
Oh, 100% they would scream at the healer for having the audacity to rescue them.
Man I remember that very first time doing WoD when I began playing in 5.1. Moment I saw the rotating four platforms lighting up and a doom debuff I said “oh it’s temple of qarn, gotta stand on that.”
IM THE REAPER! IT ME! HI!
Omg you're famous now!
Ayyyy🤩
(Also I hope youre having a wonderful day today! Happy gaming♡)

I love how he says "not healing is the answer" and then yells at the ast for not pressing cure
Feel like you’re being overly literal, every healer has an equivalent to cure even if it’s called something else
What duty is this?
EDIT: Oh, WoD, and the tank died to Doom.
I legit don't know if white mage has any ogcd heals at level 50. Even Regen is a gcd, I guess benediction?
Yep WHM is literally just benediction once every few minutes. the timeline fits perfectly they probably did not immediately pull. what in the everloving over analyzing fuck.

Lot of “if”s in this post.
You're reading WAAAAAY too much into this lol...

More like saying you haven't drove in a while and seeing someone near by get in a car accident that didn't affect you.
You're reading way too much into this, analyzing times over WOD. It takes like 2 seconds to type something that short. In-between heals and dps.
you can make as many analogies as you want but this mechanic notoriously kills people every single time. it is also not uncommon for a healer in your alliance raid to have not played their job recently, no less downsynced to 50. this situation is 100% believable to literally every single person with experience in this raid what the hell is this lol.
Ha that makes this even funnier.
Clearly you should have gone to the cleanse plate and rescued the tank. 😔😔😔
Oh he can’t tell the difference between a doom which can be cleansed by Esuna and one you have to do a mechanic for 😂
imagine getting mad over deaths in the crystal fucking tower series
Considering you're failing some of the easiest content in the game with incredibly easy to avoid mechanics, I'd be more ashamed than mad if I died in there.
