Best Black Friday TV deals:

so black friday is here and i’ve been looking at samsung 4k tv options for a while now. some of the early deals are out but it’s hard to tell if they’re actually good or if cyber monday will bring something better. anyone already grabbed a model or have experience with the qled and crystal UHD lines? just trying to figure out which ones actually make movies and shows look good without feeling like a total waste. curious what people think is worth keeping an eye on before the main black friday rush.

  • Find the TV you want, and just get it for the lowest price you want.

Do not shop the deals just for the deal.

Get a good TV at a price you accept

Also their UHD crystal are the lowest quality, and I would get a smart Streaming stick if you get those tvs the interface is slow.

yeah was leaning towards qled anyway the crystal prices seemed sketchy. already got a roku stick so that helps

I already replied to the post, but to add, mine is crystal and it's smart and not android. All the streaming apps are supported for its operating system and also they have Stremio in the store if you don't want to pay for disney or netflix or hbo. When you hook up a console, it immediately detects everything. As an example, on Philips you have to enable 4k from the settings. Here it's just plug and play. That one was the only decent one within my budget back then, so i just grabbed it.

  • I have had a 7172 au model 75 inch samsung for 3 years now and i am very happy with it. 0 issues, colours are wonderful. I also have a philips 4k tv in another room, but that one has darker colour. I prefer the samsung one because it just looks more vibrant.

  • Summary of four main types of displays:

    • OLED: Generally provides largest color-gamut (i.e., more colors, smoother gradients) and best dynamic-range (i.e., ability to render the most shadow- and highlight-detail), and is the only display-technology able to produce zero-luminance blacks, where each pixel can be turned "off" to produce a true-black (other displays only dim a number of "zones").
    • QLED: Brighter than OLEDs, but reduced color-gamut and dynamic-range compared with OLEDs.
    • Mini-LED: Brightest of all; use for rooms with high ambient-light; lower color-gamut and dynamic-range than OLEDs.
    • Backlit-LED: Least expensive display with least amount of everything.

I got OLEDs for the primary bedroom where I mostly watch movies, where wide color-gamut and high dynamic-range is most desirable. I got a mini-LED display for the living room which has large, floor-to-ceiling windows and a lot of ambient light, where I mostly watch news and financial channels (i.e., video-acquired media vs. film-acquired media or digital-cinema acquired media which employ film-style LUT-profiles and cinematic color-grading).
