    I don't often do nails because they're so burdensome.

    I can't hardly do anything productively or efficiently.

    These hinges would help with that a bit but MAGNETIC, changeable ones??

    I'm not an engineer or anything but I feel like this should in theory be doable. Nail polish with metal flakes which we already have (or had, where it'd come with a magnet on top of the bottle and you'd get weird wavy patterns) + magnetic backing on nails. Seems.... not impossible. 🤔

    There’s a kickstarter called Modul Nails that has this. But instead of magnets it’s a clip (clip on/off with you only gluing the clip on attachment to your nail). I’ll reply to this comment with the link in case links aren’t allowed on this sub for those interested!

    My (late) wife had magnetic false eyelashes, so this must be possible too. Metallic liner, with tiny magnets on the lashes.

    I use nail stickers. I design my own press ons and change them on a whim or take them off when i do sports :D

    Peel off base or nail stickers. If your natural nails are being ruined from having fake nails, it’s a technique issue.

    I had an injury when I was a kid where a door slammed on my index finger. The doctor had to remove the nail on that finger and it looked like the ones she opened sideway in the video.

  • Coming from someone who does nails, these nails are meant as a joke or engagement bait. And good on the OOP for getting the engagement, but that aside, do not try this yourself unless you know what you’re doing.

    The metal hinge will not bend to the shape of your natural nail. That on its own is not an issue, but if you’re doing it directly on your natural nail, it absolutely is a problem both because you’ll seriously ruin your natural nails during removal and also because it leaves a significant air pocket which can cause greenies (bacteria growth on top of your nail that appears green). If anyone really wants to try something like this, treat it as a nail charm, not as a base. Do it on top of a hard gel or acrylic overlay.

    Thank you for the detailed insight! I don't do nails often because I'm fairly low maintenance and they're far too inhibiting and inefficient, but it seemed like a neat idea.
