Switch Lite - “RST is not connected”
I’ve modded a few Lites at this point, but I can’t get this one to get past error ** (RST is not connected). I must have redone the soldering five+ times, and the RST point even more so.
I need some fresh eyes, what am I missing? The RST solder joints look solid.
(Install looks a little messier than usual, tends to happen after the 5th time!). Other connection points included for completeness. The usual flex was a bust so I used wires to install, as I’ve previously been successful with this method.
Did you Check continuity between every wire?
How long are the wires? They look pretty long, i would try shortening the wires as much as possible. Seems dumb but just make sure the wires going to the correct place on the chip.

Also check the continuity of these to make sure they arent touching the other pads
Would that have an effect on the RST error?

Shortened the wires (except 3.3v), they’re around 2-2.5cm length, checked continuity, all seems fine. Same error 😢

Is it bridged under there?
Can you post a picture of the full chip. There might be a problem on there too

You were right, there was a bridge in the zif connector, obscured by the latch.

I’ve removed the bridge and it now works. Hurra, huge thanks!
Thr rst point is soldered to the pad right under, which causes the chip to malfunction.

I originally had it where you suggested, but same issue. The traces of the two pads are connected, so I tried it as a process of elimination. Please correct me if that’s wrong! I’ll move it back to the single pad again regardless.
You are right, according to thr boardview the two pads are connected and shouldn't cause that issue. Well then you can check if the wire is shorting to anything by testing with a multimeter and if there is a short, removing the wire and probing the pad on the motherboard, and then probing the pad on the modchip.
If there is no short, I'd suggest you re-check continuity on all wires and see if you didn't mix up any wires ?

Moved it, but same error 😢
Looks like the enamel wire is tunnelling through your solder, reflow it so that the tip of the wire is fully immersed in the solder
Reflowed, tip immersed, same error 😢

Do you have a multimeter to test the continuity between the Reset point and point B on the modchip? And also the diode readings?
That rework is looking well but I noticed that a lot of the other points look the same. Also in future, I use a cigarette lighter to burn the enamel from the tip of the wire and wipe clean with a cotton bud dipped in IPA
Which bit is the reset point? I’ve just been checking the points with my multiplier using ground (the metal around the cpu / gpu in this case.
Great tip about the lighter. Think I’ll do that when I inevitably start from scratch again 🙂
Reset (the pads under "FL") should be soldered to point B
The group of 3 are D - A - C (from the APU to the ribbon cable connector)
And the 3.3V is the wire connected to the capacitor

They don't have to be exact but it'll help narrow down where the issue is
I know what you mean, didn’t realise they are also called Reset pads 🙂
Yes there is continuity between Reset / B on the motherboard, and point B on the modchip.
Here are my readings using ground on the motherboard, and the points on the mod chip;
Black to ground; - C = 750 - A = 745 - D = 667 - B = 667 - 3.3v = 998
Red to ground; - C = 445 - A = 462 - D = 393 - B = 393 - 3.3v = 404
It all seems good, perhaps the modchip itself is bad? Try reflashing the firmware?
After this, I'm all out of ideas 🙃
I’ll give reflashing a go 🤞🏻 You might be right, could just be unlucky with the silicone lottery!
Just want to say, I really appreciate your help btw.

I've had this error pop up when the battery isn't charged enough to boot with the chip (constantly resetting/rebooting), put the motherboard back in, charge the switch for a while and hold power for about 20 seconds
Oh that’s interesting. Battery is around 50%, but I do have a spare. I’ll charge it in my other Switch Lite and throw it in, see if it helps.
Success! There was a tiny bridge in the zif connector, hidden by the latch. Huge thanks to everyone’s help, massively appreciated. Now to tidy it all up the wiring and get it buttoned up 🙂
