  • Life Extension Magazine has articles that touch on this subject. You'll likely to see mentioned taurine, selenium, pregnenolone (steroid hormone) and more.

    From my notes: melatonin

13 Nootropics to Boost BDNF David Tomen

Taurine protects SH-SY5Y cells from MG-induced toxicity by enhancing cell viability, reducing inflammation, upregulating genes associated with neurogenesis,

    https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jbt.70343

Vitamin C induces the expression of BDNF, a nerve growth factor required for neurogenesis. BNDF helps repair and grow new neurons, repairs synapses

Supplemental pregnenolone is molecularly identical to the pregnenolone that the body makes naturally Boosting acetylcholine levels, increasing neurogenesis (the creation of new neurons), and regulating gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)

Lithium helps prevent mood swings, is anti-anxiety and antidepressant, promotes neurogenesis, protects from neurodegenerative disease, and is anti-aging

There is another angle to consider. You don't want toxins to damage your brain cells as soon as you make them. Selenium is under appreciated as an antioxidant in our toxic world. Along with its role related to glutathione it binds to heavy metals providing protection from the toxins, including in the brain.

Notice mercury causes a neuro-tangle effect in this short clip from U. of Calgary.

Dr Boyd Haley former chair of Chem Dept at U of KY explains more. Based on his teams research he concluded that mercury is a cause of Alzheimer's-like symptoms, maybe the primary cause of it.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJhMERFaBqY

Cutler protocol mercury detox is designed to gradually move mercury across the blood brain barrier and out of the brain. Normally the half life of inorganic Hg in the brain is something like 20 yrs. It gets trapped there.

Nice reply, definitely going to look into these!!

Lions Mane boosts BDNF and mitigates TNF

  • Ketogenic diet and exercise will get you way further than any pill. Some psychedelics may help, in low doses.

  • Choline. A precursor for acetylcholine, it is crucial for memory, learning, and attention functions in the brain. Choline is also responsible for transporting omega-3s across the blood-brain barrier.

You can get both by eating Egglands Best Eggs.

    thanks !

If you're avoiding substances that cause dopamine surges, choline isn't in that category. It won't trigger cravings or euphoria.

Just the opposite, acetylcholine and dopamine work in opposition in parts of the brain that govern reward and impulse control, such as the striatum. When acetylcholine is low, dopamine signaling can become less regulated.

Low choline leads to to stronger reward-seeking impulses and poorer inhibition.

thanks brother. i will surely take it. i guess it will work in synergy with omega 3 as well !

  • Taurine has been the most noticeable for me.

You can feel the neurogenesis happening? Impressive 😅

Well not neurogenesis, but I have better energy throughout the day when I do take taurine than when I don't.

  • Omega-3 is a solid foundation especially DHA as it supports neuron membrane growth and signaling. Look into elysium NAD too, it's been getting attention for its role in cellular repair, energy metabolism, and even neurogenesis. Then consider curcumin and resveratrol. They are important for forming new neurons.

  • Maintaining a healthy gut biome which prevents "leaky gut". Which helps strengthen the BBB. Antioxidants, exercise, and good dietary habits. No alcohol, tobacco or street drugs. Aim for Delta Wave restorative sleep, playing certain video games like Tetris, singing, or learning a new language.. Maintaining a good social repoire with friends to participate in weekly events And you definitely need to remain engaged and positive to avoid depressive thoughts or bad habits.I would think that the Cholinergic System and the CNS should be targeted. And that since Neuroplasticity and Neurogenesis are interdependent of each other, it's best to address those two things together. Choline rich foods for Acetylcholine and the Cholinergic System. And B Vitamins for the CNS.

  • Different types of mushrooms help to boost your brains ability to create new neural connections, I like lion's mane (you always have psychadelic ones if you really need to bring out the big guns )

did you face any sexual side effects when taking lions mane?

Define side effects, been celibate (no masturbation) for years!

no libido, inability to get erection, low T

Doubt it is the lions man, I mean if you eat sugar and carbs that will have a bigger effect than any supplement, and dont do any workout is event worse for these problems

  • Omega 3s, minerals, vitamins are the absolute bare bottom baseline really helps putting Citicoline in the mix. Erinimax lions mane mycelium extract is great, Longvida is great. Wild blueberries help increase BDNF.

choline also increases dopamine and that scares me a little. i am a recovering addict.

have you taken it? what was your experience?

It’s a nutrient, I’ve taken it every day for 5 years. Much better mental clarity and memory. I’m talking particularly about Citicoline, CDP-Choline, Cognizin.

my bad choline doesnt produce dopamine. i misunderstood it. thanks a lot ! does it help reduce cravings in your exp?

    Reduce cravings for what?

  • If you are looking beyond Omega‑3s, a few supplements may support brain health and neurogenesis, choline or phosphatidylserine for neuron membrane support, B‑vitamins (B6, B9, B12) for nervous system function and Vitamin D for overall brain health. While the strongest evidence is for Omega‑3s, these can complement a healthy lifestyle with exercise, sleep and mental stimulation to keep your brain firing at its best.

  • Lutein and zeaxanthin help to protect against dementia.

  • Lions Mane is amazing stuff, pref mycelium extract extracted for erinacines. Needs to be 3rd party tested by an ISO accreddited lab.

  • Auvelity and lithium
